Hunter wellies - convince me the colour is fab or help how to exchange!

Just for information: my DP works in retail and the issue of "customers" "returning" goods for exchange that were not originally purchased in his shops is easily dealt with. Retail chains' logistics systems can trace exactly which product was delivered to which outlet on which day and which time. If you take a product to a shop, the shop can call its supplier and find out where that particular box was delivered and when...

Thanks for all your enthusiastic purple-loving replies grin
Soggycrock, that's really sneaky and I can't say it hadn't crossed my mind but I am far too honest and sheepish to do that, and Mystery, I never said I was out to con anyone.
Anyway you lot are right, they are for getting slopped in mud and it won't matter too much when they are used for their proper purpose, but I just had my heart set on some navy or indigo ones (currently my fave colours) and purple feels a bit dated or rather "old-me", anyway.
I have been thinking far too much about me wellies but loving the fact purple is getting a thumbs up. I haven't done anything yet though, they are still sitting in their box in the hall waiting for me to make a decision.

I think they'll look fun and after a few walks they will definitely dull down a bit, especially if you dont clean them !

I LOVE the purple. I have black glossy and they look a bit dull. Get loving your purple ones.

My DD has the pink glitter Hunters and they are fab on - not nearly as blingy as they look on their own. They really jazz up jeans and a jacket on a cold winter's day.

They look great in purple. Go out over some muddy fields tomorrow, the purple will be lovely against all that brown sludge.

Have just googled and love the colour as I also love purple. Sorry, prob doesn't help!

Do you want a more neutral colour so they go with more things you have? Do you normally wear bright clothes? I think like that about shoes so tend to buy boots, trainers etc in grey/black/white so they go with everything. Hence my hunters are grey. But as others have said, scuff them up and get them muddy and it won't matter.

They are £80 but not "an everyday item" shock I could never justify even £45 on Wellies but they are gorgeous envy

shelldockley Wed 02-Jan-13 16:47:29

I'd stick with the purple, they'll dull down as everyone said, wellies look better with mud on! Get some of those cuffs\socks in black or something and that'll help neutralise your outfit.

EuroShagmore Wed 02-Jan-13 15:00:29

They sound fantastic.

But if you want to get rid, ebay is probably the best option.

nipersvest Wed 02-Jan-13 12:25:36

is it the purple or the glossy finish that's putting you off them?

if it's the glossy, it will dull down as they are worn. they probably look a little brash all clean and sparkling in the box, once they're a bit muddy, they'll not look as shiney.

ouryve Wed 02-Jan-13 10:17:29

Purple? What's not to like?

MadAboutHotChoc Wed 02-Jan-13 10:16:46

Sell the purple ones on ebay and buy navy ones yourself.

soggycrockonboosh Tue 01-Jan-13 22:10:42

TK MAXX are selling navy hunter wellies for £45 > bargain!
Purple is not the best colour but hey what does it really matter if they are covered in mud all the time? Buy a new pair, return the pair you don't want and get a full refund to spend as you wish.

mysteryfairy Tue 01-Jan-13 11:51:20

I don't understand why ebaying and then buying a pair in the colour you want with the proceeds is any less appreciative of the gift than trying to con a retailer?

I think if you know this colour is hard to get hold of you are running a big risk that the retailer you pick on will know they haven't stocked the colour and hence did not sell you the boots!

As its only wellies I would learn to like the colour you have which sounds fab - though I could understand if you habitually wear a red coat or something else that clashes badly this might not be possible.

I have navy hunters and they are quite dull - not Xmas present material!

MrsWolowitz Tue 01-Jan-13 10:57:25

Purple sounds lovely.

MoottonBun Tue 01-Jan-13 10:56:24

I thought it might be a bit odd to stroll into a random shop but then again I never usually have branded items so this is a bit unusual for me. Wondered if anyone has ever tried it before though and been successful. I guess I can always try, and if I look a prick so be it...
Thanks for your suggestion Cybbo but not keen on the socks really.
I thought about Ebay too but it doesn't feel right. The person who got them for me went to such an effort to get them for me (says the colour was hard to find, ironically) and I feel rotten for not love loving them like I ought to.
That'll be the last time he does that for me I'm guessing, oops.

StrawberryMonkey Tue 01-Jan-13 09:52:24

I doubt you can walk into some random store and persuade them to swap a pair of their boots for the pair you have.
I suggest selling them (eBay?) and using the money to buy a pair you like if you're really not keen on the colour. wink

Cybbo Tue 01-Jan-13 09:46:15

What about getting some of their furry boot socks to change the look of them

And tbh how often will you be wearing them...they're not an everyday item

Or eBay

MoottonBun Tue 01-Jan-13 09:25:26

I got some fab Hunters for Christmas, trouble is I'm not sure about the colour.
I really would have liked glossy navy or even matt navy but instead got glossy sovereign purple. I am trying to come round to liking the colour but it just isn't happening, so thinking I should exhange them.
They were bought online though and seller says it's too late to exchange, so what else could I try? Walk into any stockist and explain I just want to exchange? I'm not looking for a refund or anything, so do you think a shop would be willing to do this? If so, any ideas where would be a good idea?
They are still perfectly boxed, with all official tags etc. in tact and never worn.
I feel awful for disliking the colour, the person who bought them for me knows I love purple usually - what a fussy cow I am!
