HOLY SHIT. My hair is matted at the roots, almost all over my head. I'm going to have to shave it off, arent I?

I had micro loop extensions put in about 2 1/2 months ago for a treat to.myself as I was feeling shit and ugly. They cost bloody loads but i had just come into some money so thought, hey why not?

I wanted them out after a month because they were itchy and horrible, bit i persevered with them because of the cost, and they were supposed to last 3-4 months.

My grandma has just taken them all out with pliers, it took 3 hours!

My hair is now matted and stuck together at the root almost all over my head, the only place that's okay is the top as they weren't in there.

What the hell do I do? It looks bloody awful and I don't think i can go out in public untill its sorted.

It resembles a thatched roof or a birds nest, maybe a bit of both. It's still itchy and still gross. I think its too knotty for even a hairdresser to sort it out tbh.

Any ideas? Pleeeeeeesse someone help me!

OK have a go with some olive oil, rub it in really well, see if you could comb your hair a little. It will take a couple of washes to take the olive oil out of your hair. Otherwise, you could try coconut butter, which you can get at the chemist, and do the same, massage it in really well first and then try to comb out, wash a couple of time to get rid of the oil. Good luck, it sounds horrible.

Go back to the person who put them in???
I assume that's not an option though.

I'm not an expert AT ALL so at your own risk (though sounds a lost cause anyway) but...

Lots of conditioner?? On dry hair and tease it out a bit at a time. Might take hours but probably won't do any more harm.

So sorry for you. Hope it comes good x

I'd try to tease it out with a brush when it's smothered in conditioner.

( not a hairdresser, but have dds who all get really mattedd hair)

Thanks everyone! Just sent my mum to the shop for a big bottle of conditioner, a comb, olive oil and some wine for the pain and to drown my sorrows Wink

I've text the woman about it and tried to ring her a couple of times but no reply yet, she probably won't do anything about it anyway. Im pissed off though because I did everything she told me to with them and it was supposed to be a treat for myself and she's pocketed my money and left me looking like a fucking caveman! Angry

Should have just stuck with my wonderful clip-ins, which looked better anyway!

The only time I had very matted hair was after a long drive in an open top car, but from that and my experience of dealing with flatmate's very back combed hair I would suggest lots and lots of cheap conditioner, work it right into the hair, and then start combing tiny sections at a time. Having someone else do it for you would be best as they can see properly. This worked with very matted doll's hair too, so should work on yours.

Poor you :( Sorry if this is a given, but when you start trying to tease it out with tons of conditioner, begin combing it down from almost at the ends of your hair and then work your way up millimetre by millimetre. Don't move up until the hair below is knot-free. That way you won't be 'pushing' down the tangles from the top and making the hair more knotted than ever. Again, sorry if this is obvious, but I have long hair and learned this woefully late! It has really helped lessen hair breakage.

My dd's hair tangles and gets matted really easily. I use an oil on it and tease it out really carefully. At present I'm using extra-ordinary oil by l'oreal elvive. It costs about £10 a bottle. Use plenty, cover the roots and massage in. After a while you will be able to tease it out (hopefully). You will need a lot a patience.

Hope it works out.

A tangle teaser brush will help take the pain away. My dd won't let Meuse anything else on her hair.

I was just going to suggest a tangle teaser. Call your mum up and see if she can get one (Boots sell them).

When you are brushing out tangles make sure you start at the bottom, tease out the ends, then the mid-lengths then the roots last, or you will end up with and even worse tangle. Like everyone else said lots of conditioner! Hope you get it sorted!

I have a tangle teaser brush somewhere, will dig it out.

Fabric conditioner at a real push if the normal conditioner isn't working.

What about a Tangle Tamer brush?

Report
NirvanaSmellsLikeTeenMother · 28/11/2012 18:26

Got a tangle brush thing, a wide tooth comb (recomended by my hairdresser auntie), hair serum, loads of conditioner and a pair of scissors just in case. My mum forgot the olive oil but I'm gonna get some tomorrow if this doesn't work.

Thankyou for all the advice everyone Thanks

Oh god

this happened to me YEARS ago when I had really dodgy hair extensions put in

as others have said, loads of conditioner, LOADS. and just really gently try and comb it through, starting from the very ends.

i would be really pissed off with the person who did this if i were you!

Could you go to another hairdresser and get a keratin hair treatment that seems to be a really intensive conditioner that might soften it down.

I had a similar problem a few years ago and a friend suggested that silicon based products would be good.

So I used silicon based lube (yes the sex kind) and it worked amazingly well! I also know a couple if people who've used it to tease out dreadlocks.

Obs you have to start at the bottom and be VERY gentle but it does work.
