Philips Lumea IPL hair reduction/removal

Has anyone got a Philips Lumea IPL thingy and used it for a prolonged period? Does it work?

£350 is a lot of money to risk on something that might be all hype.

AMAZING!!! I used to go to beaytician to ahve my face done ( have PCOS) and undearms which costed me 200 pounds each time. So now I decided I try it myself and bought the Philips Lumea 2-the one for face as well...Its amazing, my underarms are soft and hair free, face fab too...my sis uses mine to do her bikini ( im not brave enough) she says it is a bit painful but again after 3 sessions she can see results

Sounds good.... How often do you need to use it? I am thinking primarily of bikini line and hoping it cuts down on ingrown hairs.

Loads of detailed reviews on Amazon. Apparently it doesn't work on fair hair or darker skin tones. You need to have darkish hair and fairish skin.

Sorry been eating..
for first two months you doing every 2 weeks. Then every 4 weeks ( I hope I got it right, anyways it comes with instructions!) now im doing it once every 4 weeks)
it basically has got two ends bigger one for bigger areas and smaller one for face, you attach it on and set the strength...Id suggest to start with 3, 5 being the maximum..and see how it feels if you can bare the pain you can put it up. Comparing to professional saloon laser treatment this is soo much nicer, but than Im a wimp and my pain threshold is very very low. you press it agains the face/underarm and when the light flashes green you [press on the handle and it goes to your follicle to destroy it, you will smell the burnt hair!! also you have to shave in between no waxing nothing else just shave...

IT really does work, Ive been always obsessed about my hair being done as with pcos I was efected with facial hair, some even on my neck...now Im smooth :) and have my hair up most of the time!!

My sis is also hairy, BUT please before buy double check on Philipps web is you are suitable i.e redheads arent allowed to use the machine, the best results are for people with pale skin and dark hair hence the result on underams where the hair is thicker/darker are good and quick..same with bikini.
ALSO make sure if you need it for face that you purchase the new model, the first one isnt for face!!!

I swear Im not Phillips person and dont make money from it :)

I'd heard slightly better things about the Boots version but apparently it's been discontinued Confused. Anyone else know about this, it seems weird to me

Is it permanent though? I had a look at it a while ago and I thought I had heard that it isn't a permanent solution. Have any of you heard of Vaniqa cream? It is meant to stop hair growing.

The Boots one is meant to be permanent, hence my interest ...

The Boits one was cheaper but has the have the bulb replacd after 10,000 flashes abd rhink was £100 fir bew bulb the Philips is 40,000. Remember doing research before I bought mind last summer. None can give permanent due to our hormones but give permanent reduction.

I had IPL at a salon years ago which had no affect for me whatsoever. I used my machine on my legs 4 times (did legs every 4 weeks) and the results were astonishing after the first use! Took longer for my underarms.

Noticing rather than addressing underarms once a week or do now I'm pregnant it's back to every other day,

I heard lots of good comments about Bppts one too, but as the post said none of them will be permanent due to our hormones.

I never used Vaniqua cream as last time I wanted it my gp wouldnt give it to em as we were trying to get pregnant, now Im done with abbies I amy ask for it...thanks for reminding me, but as I said my face is nearly perfect ( nearly but Im thinking if I put cream on top of laser it should get prefect...right ;)??

I asked my gp about Vaniqa years ago.She looked up a wee book and says "no it doesn`t exist."I told her I had seen it on the internet..Deathly silence and then a lecture on goggling health related items

Trigger finger......just purchased a 2nd hand Boots Smooth Skin Plus from ebay for £140. Will report on progress once I've used it a bit. Was persuaded that way by reviews comparing it to the Lumea saying the Boots one seemed to have a longer lasting effect.

I bought the Philips lumea precision 2 months ago. Have used it 4 times so far (every 2 wks). Used on legs, underarm & bikini line. I notice a reduction in growth but definitely not ready to reduce usage to once a month yet...it is a slow process (unless I'm just an ultra hairy person). It takes about half an hour for me to do the bottom half of both legs. Other areas are quicker. On the website it advertises it as being a pain free method.....well, it isn't! Some flashes, yes, are pain free, but then suddenly out of nowhere there'll be a really burny few zaps! But the pain is short-lived so is bearable. I got mine in Boots so I could get mega advantage points. Look out online for offers....I got mine, the precision one, for the price of the basic one, iirc, it was £90 off!

Hello, everyone !
The best way to get "serious" hair reduction is the saloon laser or ipl. I've done lots of research for phillips lumea ... i had a lot of hair on my legs, black and stubborn after years of shaving, upper lip had turned greenish because of repeated waxing... as well as some other "parts". Hair on legs almost disappeared after only one session at the saloon and upper lip is now clean after 3 sessions only. It is the best, civilized way, the technician can reach parts that would be difficult to reach yourself. Saloon, trained, professional way is by far the best.
