Is H&M sizing going even worse or am i secretly expanding??

VIX1980 · 01/11/2012 22:38

was looking forward to my h&m clothes order coming, it got here today and everything i ordered is going back, im sz 14/16 ordered 4 different pairs of trousers to try on, 2 sz 14 and 2 sz 16 so i was sure to get into 1 of them.

not even the 16 went past my knees, i even think the 18 would be too small?
i know theyve got worse but to go up 3 dress sizes?? cant just be me and my baby weight can it?

A size 14 in H&M is a size 12 everywhere else, a size 16 would be a 14.

It's something to do with european sizing. So a european size 38 is a 10 in most other shops but is a 12 in H&M. Not sure why.

really? i find them quite generously cut. i am normally a 6 in most shops but find i can get into a 2 quite easily there

juuuuuuuust kidding, someone always posts crap like that and i wanted it to be me this time Grin

i don't even look at sizes anymore just try what fits

H&M is one of the worst ones for me.

or what looks like it fits. their sizing is done by a blindfolded dipsomaniac throwing darts at a customised size chart dartboard

H+M sizes are just plain WEIRD! I'm a 10 most places but can rarely get into a 12 there.. except their tops which seem to be massive! I don't buy their trousers any more.

Mind you I tried on a skirt and cardigan in Fatface yesterday.. and had to get a 6..(I am NOT a 6) skirt and a 14 top!! I'm 5 ft 7 and 9 stone 4.... and definitely not top heavy (sadly).

I wish they would just all get together and standardise sizes!

I would say tops are normal but i have given up even trying on bottoms in H&M.

Ikwym. I have bought bottoms in a 10 to 12 from H&M, but last time I went I tried on a pair of trousers and the 12 didn't fit. The 14 didn't fit either, but the 16 did. I'm pretty certain I'm not a size 16. They were low rise and didn't do up round my hips and I'm not even pear shaped.

Oh glad its not just me then, i measured the sz 14 waist it was 28 inches??? seriously for a size 14, id love that if it was true.

i tried a dress on last week in there, just plain strapless dress, size 14, the bottom half was more like size 18 literally hanging of me but the top was like a size 8, just went to each side of my body, very weird!

the tops i ordered were all massive though which makes it stranger, i know there european sizes but still to have a dress thats 4 sizes dfferent on top and bottom????

I've got two tops in the same style but different colours (maternity) one is loose and one I can't even roll the sleeves up Hmm

I find the tops are come up huge and the bottoms come up small. It's not even my shape, because I'm a well endowed apple, so this just shouldn't be the case.

I agree - their tops are sized huge and the trousers are about 3 suzes too small

I find that the trousers in places like H&M and Zara are not really designed for ladies you have had babies. I once asked an assistant in Sara yo explain their sizing. She did, then helpfully added "But of course, our largest sizes would not fit you". At my biggest I am 16!

If their kids clothes are anything to by, then they're definitely getting bigger! 5yo DS used to fit their clothes (although the waists have always been a bit big, but he's a bit of a wiry kid), but now the 3/4yo trousers are miles too big.

I think ordering online at h&M can be a gamble as the sizes are so all oveer the place. I'm a 14 most places and I tried an 18 that was too small but bought a small in something else.

Not even the same item in the same size are always the same. Have to compare and see which fits. I always try a lot on in H&M before buying anything.

The sizing is so variable in Zara with the trousers and jeans. I can't order online, cause I just never know what size I'll get and they only come in extra long. I used to love Zara, but I've gone off it recently.

Why do H&M have tiny bottoms and massive tops? I thought they were meant to do European sizing. Women on the continent aren't ridiculously top heavy, are they?

Sizes are bizarre - but that's what you get in such a cheap shop. I do love H&M but it's one you need to actually visit and try things on in. Online is risky (and delivery takes forever too).

Ordering online from H&M is a gamble as to whether it will actually turn up!

I always need to go up 1 or 2 sizes in h&m.
I am size 6 or 8 in other shops but always need 10 in h&m

I have a size 8 jacket and size 16 trousers and I am straight up and down - not a walking triangle.

I'm so glad I came across this thread. My lb is now 14 months and whilst I thought I was in decent shape, h&m had other ideas at the weekend! A size 10 skirt, more like a 6 and a tent for a shirt, come on! So now all I can think is that I have a massive belly and no boobs. Just measure the materials the same way as all the other shops dammit Angry
