Babyliss big hair- what exactly does it do & would it work for me?

I'm considering buying one but I'm in need of educating before I part with my cash! I have shoulder length hair with fairly long layers, it's wavy at the top and more curly towards the ends and it gets frizzy easily. I don't get time often to straighten it but want a smoother style with longer waves- would the big hair work for me and how easy/quick is it to use?

It lifts your hair at the roots, like when you get a blow-dry at the hairdressers.

I love mine - it gives movement to my hair and doesn't kill its natural wave.

Your hair needs to be 80-90% dry first; I let mine dry naturally while I'm having my breakfast, or you could give it a quick rough dry with a normal hairdryer. After that, it takes me 5-10 mins.

Lots of tutorials on YouTube.

Not sure it would do what you want it to...I found it gave me a straight blow dry. Also if you don't have time for straighteners I doubt you'll have time for this...it's the same sort of timeframe I find.

I do like it though!

Ooh you tube is a great idea, hadn't thought of that.

Yes, your hair sounds like mine (in its natural 'unstyled state) - the Babyliss Big Hair works wonders for me.

So much so that I am about to buy a 'spare' as I had a panicky moment last week at the thought of going back to frizz-dom should mine ever break or wear out / be discontinued etc!

I love mine! If I use it properly then (separating the hair pieces & pulling the brush up & down etc) it looks super glam, like a big blow dry from the hairdressers.

If I haven't got time then I just blast it with the hairdryer then quickly curl the ends with it & that gives me great blunt ends IYKWIM.

Best hair product I've ever bought.

I've just watched a demo on YouTube & have to say I'm impressed, i've read loads of positive reviews too so think I may well be investing

Good. In my opinion, the world is in need of more big hair smile

I don't get any volume from it at all but it does smooth out my curly hair so it looks as if I've had a salon blow dry. For volume, I have to stick velcro rollers in at the crown afterwards, but even so, it's worth it if like me you've never been able to manage the whole brush/hairdryer routine, and have fine hair that goes lank if you use straighteners.

I don't like mine, I have only used it once, but just couldn't get used to it, it left my hair full of static, so I will be selling it on ebay, as it's brand new. The video demo makes it look so easy, maybe its just my dodgy hand.

I hate it.

I have long hair - maybe just above my bra strap. All I seem to do with it is tangle my hair painfully round the barrel. This is despite numerous attempts.

Although I've never watched a tutorial...

I love mine. It's the best hair gadget I have ever had after my GHDs. It gives me a hairdresser quality blow dry look and takes 10 mins with towel dry hair.

I have shoulder length layered hair which has a bit of a wave which can frizz but it worked just as well when my hair was much longer although it took longer to do then.

Great for quick touch ups in between washes too. Totally tames my frizz.

Did I mention I love it?

I hated mine so I sold it on Ebay. I have shoulder length very fine hair, every time I used it it just built up static in my hair. it did give me volume but it dropped out of my hair rapidly and all that brushing just made my hair extra greasy.

Ok I've reserved one at Argos to collect tomorrow- I've watched a few more tutorials on YouTube & even found a couple with similar hair to mine demonstrating it so am hoping I will love it!

My friend loves hers.

Our Morrisons had them reduced to £29.95 today. Might be worth checking in there if one near you.

I've just got my second one today (first one packed in agree two years). I love it. I don't go for root lift more swishyness. I think it only works on shoulder ish length hair.

My hair is like yours. Re the straight thing you an get more waves /curls if you use it on the underneath through 90 degrees so its parallel with the length of your head not the width iyswim.
Can't recommend it highly enough. Wish it's been invented 25 years ago. smile

I've replied to your PM, walnutcakelover, thanks

Its lovely (fairly fine, wavy/curly shoulder length hair here) and doesn't give that uber ironed straight look I'm not keen on. I do give it a quick go over with straighteners at front/ends afterwards.

So, I purchased lovely walnutcakelover's BBH and had a play with it this morning. I think my hair was too wet and I didn't have a lot of time to do it properly but I did like it (apart from two occasions where I forgot to take my finger off the button and my hair got snarled up!)

With some practice, I think I am going to love it.

And can I just say that walnutcakelover is fab! The BBH was in immaculate condition, still with its original packaging. Despite being poorly she packaged it all up and got her lovely DH to post it to me before I had even had the chance to send her the money.

I've thanked her privately, obv, but wanted to do it publicly as well.

Thank you, walnutcake, you are fab x

I have a chin length blunt bob, poker straight naturally. I am hopeless at blow drying my hair but I am really really pleased with it since I bought one of these. I probably don't use it for what it's meant for - I just use it to smooth down the hair and turn the ends under when I've dried it with the hairdryer - so I only use the Big Hair when my hair is almost dry - just to finish off the style and make it look neat. I find it very very easy to use for doing this.

LulaPalooza Fri 12-Oct-12 10:55:58

I think that's the secret, 101handbags... wait until your hair is nearly dry to smooth it out and get the volume
