I've just bought my first item from TK Maxx and now I want to know more about it...

I didn't have time to browse as my two DDs were with me, but I went in for the first time yesterday and found something I'd been looking EVERYWHERE for and am very pleased. Never occurs to me to go in as it always strikes me as being full of junk.

If you think it should become a staple shop in my limited list of go-to retailers, tell me why you like it.

Or why you don't...

Homewares (particularly cookware and baking tina) are excellently. Practically my entire baking stocks come from there - really heavy, good quality non stick trays.

Clothes, not so much.

I like it because it's like a jumble sale.

I hate it because it's like a jumble sale.

You have to be in the right mood to cope with TK Maxx, in my experience.

You need to go in regularly, pref without small people to keep on top of stock. Thanks to my lovely family I ended up with loads of TK Maxx vouchers last year so I went in a couple of times a week and rummaged. Ended up with loads of good stuff, calvin klein undies, havianas flip-flops, portmeirion storage jars, cool t-shirts, hunter wellies etc. Somehow I dug up a couple of Eastpak bags on their sale rail for £5 and £3 each Grin.

I've been broke lately so have lost track of what's in our one, I need to get on top of it.

TBH I hated it for years but was converted a couple of years ago.

Am I the only one who wants to know what the op bought?

I love TK Maxx if I have the time to browse. Have had lovely scarves, sunglasses, homeware and kids clothes.

BoF I got that impression - you need time for a rummage, don't you?

Lady had no idea thry did homeware. That's a massive plus from my PoV.

Is it a mixture of crap and designer though?

I like it because:

  • I can usually find good quality merino & cashmere knitwear at a reasonable price.
  • I love All Saints but don't love the prices (latest AS buy from TK Maxx - £180 worth of jacket for £30).
  • As a lover of vintage, trawling through rail after rail of tat in the quest for a "must-have" is my natural habitat.
  • there are certain items, such as high-end summer clothing, which I refuse to pay a lot for given the cost-per-wear ratio and which I can buy at a bargainous rate in this store (although same can be said of The Outnet)

You definitely need to have time to browse. The worse time to go is when you need something or if you have to take DCs with you.

Mrs it was a black (very) fluffy jumper - not everyone's cup of tea at all but I've wanted one for ages. Brand called Sweewe - never heard of before.

I bought a satchel bag from TKmaxx on line this week after looking everywhere for the right one. The best bit was it was reduced from £169.99 to £29.99!

What's not to like?

I love TK Maxx, you do need to be in the TK Maxx frame of mind before stepping over the threshold however.

I bought two of these yesterday, £6 each, down from £26!

why not peanut? I find I can spend hours there without buying anything, although I love the cookware.

Look in the tights section - I bought some Calvin Klein ones about 8 years ago which have only just bitten the dust! Got some DKNY and Falke ones today for about £4 a pair. Also a Le Creuset teapot for £12 and a LC mixing bowl for £10.

It's good for Chrstms presents: fancy candles, bath sets, handbags, wallets/purses, pretty photo frames, notebooks and scrapbooks. You really can pick that sort of stuff up for a fraction of the price. I bought DP an All Saints leather wallet reduced from £45 to £7.50.

They do really good leather bags. Great quality Italian leather handbags for about £60.

I have a fab Sweewe jumper from the Max Grin

I get lots and lots from there, online is good too, as things arrive in perfect condition. My only real bugbear is that knitwear often gets knackered instore from being shoved carelessly onto hangers.
