I'm here!

Survived my first day back with the kids. DS survived his first day too, but cannot remember his form tutors name (appalling auditory memory - takes after his father) and is now in his jarmies!!! DD is doing his RE homework - she is obviously bored!

Lol at RE homework being done out of boredom. I am at work and bored so may have to conjugate a few Latin verbs or something.....Grin

Well hell-o-o-o-o-o.....

Thanks for the new thread, Cremola.

Just got back from the barbers; DS has taken the plunge post-nits and the curly boy-band mop is no more. He looks so handsome with short hair. Smile

I dunno Ruby. I think I may have too many. Not that this fact stops me buying more. Grin

Dd has come back from school quite cheery, which is a turn-up for the books. She loves various of her new teachers and has got over her "only weirdy geeks are doing 2 languages" angst. She is being taught German by a former colleague of mine (it's a small, small world round here). She is also incredibly excited about doing Art GCSE as now she is finally in a class with people who actually want to be there. Today was clearly an "up" moment in the rollercoaster of dd's life at the moment.

oh here you all are...
loving the latin reminiscences.. I DS1 did his Latin gcse this summer and it fell to me to test him endlessly on his set texts. I now know about 400 lines of "The Shield of Aeneas pretty much of by heart (well I did in May anyway). Happy days. Not sure it's going to be quite such plain sailing when he prepares to do Greek gcse this year though. he is demanding I learn the Greek alphabet so I can test him on his vocab... and it's all Greek to me .
Feels like Autumn is in the air here. refusing to give in and still resolutely wearing summer clothes at the moment. Am having a party here in a few weeks and was confidently expecting to be able to use the garden... now I'm not so sure.

Well, DD is finally back to school today. Just had the first morning bathroom battle, and DS had a big "moment" last night - think it's probably all the build-up to starting secondary finally coming out, but not good after my first day back with the kids!
TGIF and I'm going out for a drink tonight!

As expected, DD1's first day of school was fine and the tears of the morning were obliterated by the excitement of a smart filofax style prep planner, a D&T lesson which included doing something with a very big drill and a canteen lunch.

Our big battle will be to persuade DD1 that she needs to be out of the house on the dot of 7.45. All through junior school, her friend was dropped early at our house, had breakfast with us and we took her to school. So the last minute Shout'n'Scramble didn't really matter. Now the friend's mother is taking DD1 to school and is swinging into our drive at 7.45, expecting DD1 to be on our doorstep. Regularly waiting in our drive would be a sure-fire way to sour a great friendship and a seven year lift-share. The current plan is to tell the friend to exit the drive at 7.45 with or without DD1 and if DD1 misses the lift we'll drop her at the bus station to catch the bus to school. It's a 12 minute ride that virtually stops outside the school so I don't think I'm being unreasonable or negligent....

I just can't face 7 years of shouting 'come on, eat your breakfast/clean your teeth/get your shoes on', there's only 5 minutes left'.

Ruby if I was closer I'd pop round! We did local curry house last night, 2 down and not many to go and I despair of finding a good local Sad
Spent half an hour with a sharpie this morning so that's school uniform dealt with. Done school run - it's all wellies and dogs round here so no worries about my sartorial elegance (or lack of) Grin

Morning all!
Tis nearly the weekend thankfully,as this has been one long week.
[Rubes I work in a big venue and the GOT cast had been given comps for a concert last night.]
Both dd and dh have still got stinky colds and I am sure I am nextSad
Dd has already mislaid her 6 th form scarf ( gah!) so all my sharpie action was a waste of time unless it turns up( unlikely)

Got a lively new boden raincoat for dh on eBay and it has appeared this morning. He is delighted not because it is an item of style and beauty but because it has 12 pockets .
I despair.Grin

Cunning Rubyruby. I'll do that. Given DD1's tendency to faff around, perhaps 10 minutes beforehand!

All peace and quiet here today - heaven....Ds has his first Latin lesson today, so we'll wait to see how that goes. I loved Latin, so we'll see if it passes in the genes.

Yesterday was supposed to be my first 'free' day after the summer holidays and work this week, BUT it was ruined by PMT, a visit to the dentist and ........three hours wasted after putting unleaded petrol in my diesel car Blush....

It was only 6 litres, so there was much discussion whether it would just swoosh around with lots of diesel, but common sense prevailed and they towed it away, with me, embarrassed old crepey sitting in the large tow truck, next to the nice strapping man who was driving it....

Then to top it all, I realised I'd missed the tickets I was supposed to buy for an event next weekend, and now they are all sold out....DH very grumpy.

So today, I'm starting again.....best foot forward and all that....

I have unpacked a couple of boxes and shunted things around so it seems a bit neater, did a washing load, and sat on the terrace sorting out the redirected mail... Off to collect Ds in a bit. It is beautiful here.
