Best work trousers?

I need two pairs of smart, slim leg work trousers in grey/navy/black that look smart, wash and wear well. And not very pricey... Ideas/tips please?

Got some good black slim leg work trousers from Sainsbury's for £20. I only got them the other day, and haven't worn them yet, so can't comment on how well they wash. The quality seems pretty good for a supermarket, though. I'm also on the look out for grey ones as well, so I'll keep watching the thread.

Worth investing in (and I think some of these are bargainous). A good pair will last forever.

If these are too expensive, rifle through department store proprietary brands and charity shops. You should be prepared to try on lots, good fit is essential.

I thought Gap would be a good bet last year but I didn't like them at all. The grey straight legs were cheap and nasty and went bobbly and the 'perfect' black trousers were anything but - went greyish, bobbled, odd shape.

The best I have had have been H&M believe it or not. Strgaiht leg £19.99.

But I too need some really good work trousers. And they have to be washable, dry cleaning is just not practical for something I wear every day.

How to care for wool trousers. Wool is self-cleaning. I have mine cleaned perhaps once per season. Air them every night and have two pairs so they can rest between wears.

If you prefer synthetics, Steilmann trousers (more here) tend to be decent quality and can be washed at home.

Any trousers with a substantial amount of synthetics have a risk of bobbling.
