Curly hair cut short?

HumphreyCobbler · 31/08/2012 19:41

I am looking for advice about how to have my hair cut. I have a round face and thick, curly hair. It is currently growing out a rather unfortunate hair cut and looks dreadful. It is chin length, with a couple of layers. The last hairdresser thinned it out thoroughly which I thought was a good idea at the time, but basically after two weeks it started looking very strange. It is just below chin length and is only what could be described as BIG.

I normally use frizz-ease to tame it and then let it dry naturally. I like it curly. (I know, I know).

How would you describe your lovely hair cut?

any advice? I really want my hair to look better - I have suddenly become all thin and I want to sort my hair out too, just to feel that it is really ok that I will soon be 40 Grin

You should find a photo of a hairstyle you love and then find a hairdresser who understands curly hair.
If you're in London I can recommend Pierpoint in Soho. Otherwise try asking on here!
I think Alex from Hotel inspector has nice well cut curly hair

Yes I'd say go for Alex sort of style. How do you care for your hair? Which products/treatments do you use?

I like graduated styles too. shorter at the back and longer at the front. This can look great on curly hair.

But I do think products are very important.

am not in London sadly, but found a posh hairdresser in the provincial town near me and asked for someone who does curly hair. I am seeing her on wednesday. She is Sassoon trained, although I have no idea if this is any guarantee of quality

I tend to use frizzease when short and hair oil when longer. Don't always use shampoo, just conditioner of various kinds.

It is shorter at the front and longer at the back so completely the wrong way round... I see what you mean.

I am hopeless at thinking of this stuff for myself, thank you for doing it for me Smile

Do google images for Audrey tautou, she sometimes has short curly haircuts that often look lovely

Have you been told by a good stylist that you have a round face? Have you tried looking in a mirror, then drawing round the shape of your face with a lipstick or similar? (cheap one of course!)

A short fringe can look good have you tried this? I hope the stylist can help you? It's good your having a consultation.

Yes Audrey has an elfin face. Sadly most of us don't Envy

I will do that but I am pretty sure I have a round face. It is very broad and completely NOT an oval Grin

I have never tried a fringe. But, I am up for anything. It simply cannot look any worse than it does already

Beware of fringes with curls! I have had a fringe a few times with my curly hair, it always seems like a good idea at the time, until the morning I don't have time to straighten it, or the day it rains and then I have a fetching row of curls along the top of my face! Usually the fringe is in hair clips within a week of it being cut

I used to work in a Redken salon and their moisturising treatments are fantastic. Any decent salon will also have great treatments though. Serums are great if you get one that suits your hair but you said frizz ease works?

These look good. By the range has changed since I worked with them! Lovely stuff.

My friend has a similar cut to hotel inspector woman. She also has some very subtle highlights in like a honey/caramel blonde colour, it makes the style look a lot softer, when her hair is on the frizzier side iygwim. Her hair also has slightly tighter curls though.

I think fringes look good if they're straightened and funky. But yes they can look odd if not done properly. I'm sure your sylist will be able to advise you though.

thanks CuriousMama

I bless the man who invented frizz ease.

On reading that link I think I have coarse, unruly yet lazy curls...Grin

Am sorely tempted now.
