what to wear with skinny jeans????

finally bit the bullet and gave my bootcut jeans to charity last week (have been feeling very frumpy and unattractive recently) and bought a couple of pairs of skinny jeans....however, I've now realised I have nothing to wear with said skinny jeans as all my tops are skinny fit / tight tops (which I used to wear lots with baggy jeans) and I can't do the tight jeans tight top thing as it makes me feel self conscious and doesn't look good, I'm a size 10 but very pear shaped and don't like to draw too much attention to my short legs / ample thighs!!
So, what on earth do you wear with skinny eans??? Can't do those flappy cardigans, I tried but they get in the way when nappy changing / playing with ds / trying to do anything practical. Oh yes, and I'm quite a practical outdoorsy person so nothing to flouncy. Oh and I mostly live in wellies or dubarry's, but wear smarter boots to go into town.
Any advice please? (I have no fashion sense at all!) Thanks Grin

Something like this as a base layer, maybe with this as a top layer is needed.

Alternatively, I like White Company tunic style tops - e.g. here

Agree layering looks good - I wear mine with mullet sleeveless shirts with embellishment on the collar from Zara. On cooler days I wear with a long line cardigan in nude or navy. I have booty so need a cover up.

oh dear, I think I've been well and truly left behind on the fashion / style front, no idea what a mullet shirt is Confused
The hardest bit is not living near any shops (hour and a half to nearest town) and having a ds who is very intolerant of being in the buggy so its always impossible to try anything on. Most things I've tried recently have been shapeless and unflattering, except for the very tight jeans.

I like the white company top, I especially like that its in the sale Grin so I'll order one of them.

Thanks for your advice!!

Google school gate mum - she has a pair shape and is probably a similar size Wink

Yes, School Gate Style and also Suburban Style (sorry, cant link on my phone) are good for ideas. Both these blogs and also the Does My Bum Look 40 In This blog have given me lots more confidence in sorting my wardrobe out.

Highland - Glad you liked the White Co tunic :)

My DS was a nightmare when trying to try clothes on too. Online shopping is the way to go. Lots of companies now have free returns and check the MN discounts page for not just discounts but free delivery - that way, if you end up returning it you've lost nothing but your time.

Don't shoot me on style board but sainsburys have long line jumper in stone and also dark pink for £9 which looks great with my skinnies.

Mullet shirt is longer at the back and shorter at the front

Loving this thread. Could have written it myself! But I have baby and toddler so even more difficult shopping. But trying to figure out the skinny jeans look myself. Gonna check out those websites!

finally got round to checking those blogs, the does my bum look 40 lady is gorgeous but a bit too glam for me, love the other 2 though, feeling inspired at long last :) will do an online shop tonight when DS goes to bed!
The waterfall cardi's are gorgeous but don't know how anyone manages to wear one and do anything practical? mine has been relegated to back of wardrobe, cardi's definately have to fasten up (frump alert), like the idea of a mullet shirt to cover the ample backside though Grin

I don't think waterfall cardis are good for pear shapes cos these tend to add bulk to where its not wanted. Slimline cardigans are best.

good job mine's been thrown to the back of the wardrobe then Grin

Now, are lumberjack type shirts still in fashion?? Am loving the crocheted tops I've seen now as well, good for layering me thinks?

I love the crocheted tops too - not sure about the lumberjack shirts though, I think chambray shirts are more fashionable.
