Another thread looking for wedding outfit advice

We're going to a wedding next Sunday. I'm going to recycle the (non-bridesmaidy) bridesmaid dress from my sister's wedding last year, but I need to style it for a June wedding.

The dress is a purple LK Bennett dress, which is very similar to the davina but with a slightly lower, square neckline. My sister accessorised it with opaque purple tights (so I looked like a ribena berry) and a pewter coloured coat (kind of Audrey Hepburn esque) because she didn't want anything revealing.

I don't want to wear a coat to this wedding, and definitely not purple tights. So how should I accessorise it (and make it a bit more summery)?

If it helps, I'm about 5'4, short, dark hair, blue eyes, pale skin (but with a greenish olivey undertone).

I don't want a hat or anything daft in my hair. I probably need a decent sized bag (ideally that can be used in day-to-day life afterwards) to cart around emergency toddler clothing changes and toys. I'll probably have to carry him around quite a lot too.

I have to wear flat shoes because of a health condition. I'd prefer not to buy new ones really, because finding something suitable is tough and so is breaking in any and all shoes. I don't own an enormous number of shoes though, which is the problem. I have a pink patent pair and a dark blue pair and some brown and not stylish birkenstocks and that's it. I was considering buying a pair of these for general wear too. (the pink pair are similar to this in style, but patent and a sort of fushia colour).

I don't want to spend a huge amount (the less spent the better), but I am reasonably flexible with budget, especially for stuff I can actually use again.

For a cover up, a scarf or fitted jacket would be ideal, you don't mention size, but how about?
linen mix wrap
silk patterned scarf
purple sheer
yellow snakeskin print

The shoes you're looking at are too casual for the dress, and, if it's the same purple as the one in the link, your pink pair (if bright fuschia) won't go. Maybe one of these could?
pink snakeskin
yellow snakeskin
zebra print
orange patent, but not fully flat
beige patent

I'm not great with bags though, so will leave that bit to someone else!

mmm, is their anyone else who could carry the changing bag? My DC would be more than proud to carry a wee ruksac with their stuff in...

Anyway, I'd say the patent fuchsia shoes, and a shawl rather than a jacket or shrug (maybe this, [[http://shop.mango.com/GB/p0/mango/accessories/foulards-and-neck-scarves/colour-polka-dot-cotton-foulard/?id=63646049_51&n=1&s=accesorios.fulares&ie=0&m=&ts=1339966357016 this or just plain fuchsia pink?]]) and the bag, well, hoping there is someone else ot carry the changing bag, how about this? .

I feel your pain on the shoe thing, just don't try and find any. It's hell and so upsetting (for me in any case). Fuchsia is a colour I love suggest with purple anyway...

Oh yes, size usually helps. I'm a size 10 generally.

I really like the butterfly scarf.

The bag doesn't need to be a changing bag. DS2 is nearly 3 and toilet trained. He's usually reliable, but this is exactly the kind of situation I can imagine everything going wrong. I just need to be able to carry a spare pair of pants and trousers and some toys. DS2 would probably love a rucksack so that might be a great idea.

The boys wore kilts to my sister's wedding, so they had sporrans to store crap in. That delighted them. This time around they're wearing black school trousers, white shirts and ties (thank you M&S with your age 3 school clothes). Pockets don't hold as many toys as sporrans.

The shoes thing is really difficult. I can't wear heels at all as it will kill my back. But, at the same time, I can't wear anything that isn't firmly strapped to my feet (hence the elasticated band in the camper ones), so normal ballet pumps are out. To be honest, if things are bad on the day, I'll just have to wear the bloody Birkenstocks whether it's appropriate or not.
