I agree with you.

And they are a bit long to wear with trousers.

Exactly and leggings don't seem to be the way forward.

I have another problem - most of the ones I see are too long for me.

Leggings will NEVER be the way forward!

What sor tof thing are you looking for? The White Company have some nice basic jersey dresses, which sit just below the knee on me.

I want a casual dress that is suitable for being out and about at the weekend; probably plain that I can dress up with a scarf and denim blazer.

Oh and can't be too low and ideally with long or mid length sleeves.

Here. They usually go down to about 50 pounds in the sale and are well worth it.

I bought this but it made me look massive

I'm 5'6", size 10 and to be honest I actually thought the dress was a bit short on me. It's ok when I standing but when I sit it looks a bit indecent.

Not fussed on midi length as I feel like my gran!!

This is their only sleeved one right now - don't think I like it though.

I've got a couple like the first one I posted and I wear them with a cami, a short sleeved t-shirt, or even a long sleeved Breton underneath.

I like that dress but i'd be pulling it up and feeling all self conscious.

Your Whistles one looks similar to the 2nd one I posted - I think they both look a bit severe (How do you solve a problem like Maria? etc).

The Wc should have plenty of ones with sleeves when their Autumn stock comes in.

I bought this from phase eight the other day. I'm 5'6" and it came up longer than on the model. I was pleased with it.

Currently waiting for this to arrive banana republic breton dress Hoping it will look better irl as it ticks the to the knee, 3/4 sleeves, no silly pattern, cotton not polyester, scoop neck not high neck, criteria! Bought some tan wedges to go with it.

Oh I agree!!! It makes me feel like every woman in the country, bar me, has fab pins.

Knee length at least please.

And what about shoes. 95% I see are either sky high heels or flat! What's wrong with a solid 2" heel?????

Have just bought this. It's on the knee, just, and I'm about 5'8". They do several different patterns but beware, they are not all the same length. Sorry if the link doesn't work, I'm on my phone.

I got this from Debenhams the other day, only mine is in pinky/red. I see it's on sale now, but only one size left if you are a 16.... It comes to below the knee on me, I normally have the same probs as you in finding suitable dresses. Loving some of the links here...

That's quite pretty but you must be thin to wear it well. I think it'd make me look pregnant.

I'm only 5'2 but I find a lot of dresses too short. I like the hem to stop halfway down my kneecaps at least (yet not midcalf) as I have monstrous knees.
