What's a Dermaroller? Is that the treatment where they zap your facial muscles to make you look younger?

This is what it is supposed to be - was looking for anyone who'd had it done. People swear by it - but just wanted to take a poll

"Your practitioner will use a Genuine Dermaroller? medical device to produce thousands of micro-medical needle-columns in the skin. Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin and will be approximately 0.1mm in width. The column will close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly - often in the same day. Your practitioner will use a topical anaesthetic to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable; it will normally take up to 30 minutes for the topical anaesthetic to work and 20 - 30 minutes for the Genuine Dermaroller? Therapy procedure.

After a Genuine Dermaroller? Therapy? procedure your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement."

Well, my beautician is trying to get me to do this. She has done it on herself over a small scar on her face and the results are great and the scar is barely visible. However, the thought of local anaesthetic followed by three days in hiding is what's putting me off.

Still undecided.

I am considering it for hyper-pigmentation on my face and fine lines around my eyes. I'll go to a practitioner for treatment on my face, but I've bought my own dermaroller to treat my pregnancy stretch marks on my boobs, tummy and thighs. Not tried it yet though!

Check out how deep the needles will be going. You will need a 1.5mm depth to have any real effect on collegen production. Also am not convinced it is any good for pigmentation but can work well on fine lines and general skin texture.

Thank you - would be interested to hear why you think that this might not work on pigmentation

because pigmentation is caused by cells making too much melanin and I don't understand how needling over these cells would cause them to reduce their activity. I may cause exfoliation of pigment cells on the surface of the skin but not stop the activity of the cells.
