And it looks ace. Considering the disaster I had 18m ago with a wonky professionally cut fringe, I'm rather impressed with my scissor-wielding skills!

Tell me your homecut disasters and successes here!

After reading the mumsnet haircut thread I gave it a go and it was a disaster!! I look like an 80s TV presenter! I didn't want to post on that thread as it all seemed to be going so well for everyone else Grin

Not too worried as my normal hairdresser only charges £13 so will go and see him to hopefully put it right and he can have a good laugh at me

Well done on a successful cut!

Threesteps, oh no! I did that on my chin length hair and it looks good. Do you have fine hair?

I tried to dye my red hair blonde once right before a ball, and it turned bright orange.

No, I have really really thick hair! Think the problem was it already had long thick layers in it so I've given myself a sort of mid-shelf half-way down and a mullet look at the back!

I knew it would end badly Grin but happily it won't cost much to put right!

Oh yikes re the ball hairdye disaster!! I envy you with a fringe. I always wanted one but I get cowlicks if I go to short so would never work for me.

Am actually quite tempted to try again as I'm going to the hairdresser anyway to see if I can make it worse improve on it Grin

I really think that it only works if you have distinctly average hair. Mine was one length so it just put longish layers in. I love having a fringe, I have big eyes and high cheekbones so a fringe suits me. My favourite hairdo was when we got married and I had long layers and a choppy fringe.

I braved the mn haircut last Sunday, with a little help from my bemused DH. He also helped me colour it the next night, by pointing out the bits I'd missed and setting up the second box of dye for me! I am really pleased with it, so I'm going to keep doing it myself from now on!

Envy at large eyes, high cheekbones and a fringe

Whereas I am now channelling Pat Sharpe!

Think you may be right about the hair all being one length, and I shouldn't give it another go...

whenever i've cut my own fringe it's looked ok for a day or so then i have to rush to the hairdressers to get it put right. it's never easy to do yourself imo anyway

You can buy clip in fringes on ebay to have a go which are v good although the effect of a real fringe is slightly different as you lose a fair bit of hair having one whereas with a clip on you are adding and the effect is v flattering.. I look terrible with a permanent one but not with teh fake Hmm Grin

noddy that is a fab idea! I'd love to know what I looked like with a fringe. Are they expensive? Off to look too!

Thanks for the link Smile

Great price, think I may get one and see what I look like as I've always wanted to know... and definitely cheaper than botox!!

I looked at clip on fringes when I had my butchery cut, but decided to just start over instead. I always prefer a fringe when I do it myself, I like it quite heavy, whereas hairdressers tend to cut it too fine.

I just bought one...and then I saw it says human hair Shock
I don't know what I was expecting it to be made of but for some reason it wasn't human hair! I haven't inadvertently exploited someone have I?!

vivian, just the one is mine (the boy) the girl is another mners, but thank you!

yep, wonky fringe was professional (it really looked like a hair helmet) putting a pic of my hair now on profile, its a bit of a mess (been back in pony tail) but the main pic was a fringe I cut myself.

Looks great lissie...miles better than the professional attempt!

I am now eagerly awaiting my clip-in fringe!

i ordered one too, though fake hair one which is probably totally different colour to my own Grin

thick fringes take so long to grow out if you get bored with them and perservering with growing out mine atm and it's annoying

lissie I did the same to my hair as you, tried to home dye it blonde,I have lots of red in mine,it went luminous orange

the kids quite literally pissed themselves laughing but the very expensive hairdresser I went to to get it corrected said I had done an excellent job and she had never seen someone get such even stripping of colour as I had done Confused

my mistake cost me over £100 to have a semi put on as I had completely trashed it Blush
