What to wear for Olympic job interview

Please, your advice with this.
I have an interview on Friday for a job with London 2012 as a team manager/coordinator type person (sorry but they haven't actually told me yet what the job is, see my other post on this for more detail!)

Anyway to fill the few days before the interview where I might actually find out what they want and how much they are going to pay me, I thought I'd panic about what to wear.

I am not a suit type person. I usually wear woodland work clothes (for my other job, landscaping), or jeans, skate trainers and jumpers, or I dress up retro to the nines for going out and dancing.
I have a naice tweed jacket and some skirts....

I really don't know what to wear. I assume jeans and trainers are out. I have to get to London and across it by public transport carrying an overnight bag too. I'm worried about turning up hot and flustered.

Told DP last night that I might go in full flourescent 80's running kit complete with towelling headband that makes your hair go like a mushroom, and keep jogging and doing star jumps through the interview.

Do you think they'd like that?

Will you be dropping off over night bag somewhere ? If so I would wear your 80's gear and change before the interview so you feel fresh and un-crumpled.
If you look at old Olympic pics women tend to wear shirt/blouse with a jacket and a knee length skirt and medium heeled shoes, could you find a light blouse/ shirt and skirt to match your jacket in the wardrobe? It would be better to wear natural fibres if possible for comfort and bring a spare pair of tights. And flats for the journey

Mein gott the outfit you describe makes me sound like a prison security guard!
Of course I suppose if I put the Boden-Filter (TM) over this scene then it all looks a bit different....

And I think the overnight bag will have to come with me

Tricky one. The safe option would be a nice plain jersey dress / smart trousers and a shirt combo (either way with a jacket and some discrete jewelllery) - not too dressed up or down and should make a good first impression without your clothes stealing the show.

That said, Olympic logo'd stuff is everywhere right now. How about this? shop.london2012.com/Clothing/Women%2527s-clothing/T-shirts-and%2520hoodies/18053711-7,default,pd.html, maybe with matching hat? shop.london2012.com/Clothing/Men%2527s-clothing/Accessories/18006727-2,default,pd.html. I dare you.

Is the role going to be office or our door based? If it is not office based I think that dress is ok. I have interviewed loads of people over the years including many at London 2012 and for office based work I'd expect people to wear a suit or look very smart. Having a distinct style is a good thing though. In a day of interviewing men in grey suits and pink shirts, I'd always remember the woman with red shoes.

I am used to working in offices on location, so they are normally portacabins and there's a lot of popping in and out.
But I don't know about this one, they haven't told me anything about the job. I was asked to submit my CV by another company I freelance for, who had been asked by the bigwigs if they had any good people to spare.

If I wear that dress what should I wear on my feet?

Mind you, I do have some red shoes! Schuh Mary Janes with 2" heel. Mmm if I win the dress on ebay, maybe those with grey thick tights?

That sounds good, I love shoes and always remember what type people wear --it is a look at their real personality hidden behind the expected uniformity of work clothes

Hi, is the interview at locog canary wharf? They all dress v casual there, but I'd still go smarter than the boden dress you've picked on eBay. If you like colour there's a nice bright yellow shift dress online oasis in the sale, would look good with a tailored jacket and heels. Otherwise I'd stick to darker colours, 80s sweatbands optional.

Good luck!

Hi Angel786, yes it is! Thanks for the tip.
Btw, do you know where exactly it is - the person on the phone was supposed to email me but nothing has arrived, I'm getting a bit nervous (can you tell?) and trying to track down some details. I'm travelling from Wales so need everything in place.

Damn! I missed the boden navy dress. I think Angels' yellow shift suggestion is too bright for me, though I love it, it's quite summery.
Any more suggestions?

There was also a nice black and white pencil dress In The oasis sale?

If it's at 10 upper bank street, canary wharf when you get to canary wharf (on the jubilee line so easy if you come into London bridge or Waterloo?) take the upper bank street exit it's up a few escalators. When you get to the top and outside it's the big building on your right (shared offices with Clifford chance). If your interview is at 9am, 12-1pm or5-6pm give yourself a few extra mins as the lifts to the locog floors get v congested!

Good luck!

Right ladies!

In case you're interested in what I got in the end...
I trawled TK Maxx (scary)
Looked in Laura Ashley (pricey)
Mooched around Monsoon (embellishtastic)
And peeked into East (overpriced hippy twaddle)

In the end I went into H&M and found a lovely rust brown heavy jersey dress with a big scoop neck, fitted bodice and bias cut skirt. £25, hooray, on budget.

Will wear with petrol tights and red shoes as advised on this thread.
Black swing coat I already have, I'll look for a red scarf tomorrow.

It's a bit like this but better:

Ahahaha brilliant accessory. Don't think I'll have time to order it though!

The interview is on Friday, I'm going to a friend's bday party in town as well that night so if I don't get the job at least I won't have had a wasted journey!

I will let you know how I get on. I must do much swotting before then and plot somewhere to leave overnight bag during interview. Left luggage? Or has that kind of thing died out with bombs, etc?
