Is it any good for oily skin?

Do you mean the powder or the liquid one? I've used both (used to work for MAC years ago and also have oily skin). Not so keen on the liquid, I prefer ProLongwear but in my opinion Lancome Teint Idole Ultra is similar in cover but much better for oily skin. The powder one is quite good. I use it for early starts when I can't be bothered to faff about with liquid foundation but it can be a bit powdery for older skins (which I now have Sad).

I am using the StudioFix powder a fair bit during the day at the moment as it's very handy for repair jobs though, with my make up getting regularly cried off. Judging by the other "common thread" we are on I suspect you may require the same. Hope you're doing ok.

I guess i'll have to try them... a relative was talking about studiofix at the funeral and mac (the liquid one) and it looked good on her. I use double wear light when i go out but had been using a no7 one which was ok for day with powder but now isn't lasting very long even with lashings of powder.

I tried one of the lancome ones but it didnt last either - cant remember the name. i only sit in an office and a cold one atm. tho does sun through the window make your skin oily?

yeah i know what you mean about needing to touch it up - wearing eyeshadow has gone out the window for the time being as i end up looking like i've thrown it on.

i thought treating myself to anew foundation might cheer me up for 5 mins.

i'm doing ok - survived being back at work...just. hope you're ok too.

I am mostly ok, especially if I'm working but I'm self employed and although I've have had a couple of nice jobs this week which have kept me "bouyant". On the days I've not been working though, I feel pretty low which makes it hard to chase for more work. The semi numb feeling is definitely wearing off now though, hence the patch up jobs on the make up.

There is a new make up brand in Liberty's called Hourglass and they do a primer which apparently makes any make up you put over it waterproof - that includes eyeshadow as well as foundation and blusher, as well as acting like a normal primer (ie. oil control etc). I am thinking of trying it with what I already have to see if it helps. It's a bit pricey though but comes in 2 sizes so I might try a small bottle.

I find the StudioFix fluid a bit on the chalky side myself but it is quite popular and looks good on other people. I do still have some in my kit (I'm a make up artist) and it looks good on some people, sadly not me! The Lancome one I suggested stays on pretty well without much powder, if any. They give out 7 day samples if you go to a counter so could be worth trying out if you get a chance.

I love studio fix,I use the compact powder thingy not the liquid.
I don't have oily skin but I do have rosy cheeks and it gives great coverage.
Perhaps you could use a primer first or a mattifying lotion first.

glad to hear you are mostly ok kittens - its hard isnt it? work keeps me going but outside i have no motivation to do anytjing.

do you think a primer would help?

is there a reasonable priced one?

i want a matte-ish finish but not too heavy to last all day - i work in an office theres no air con but it still seems to bring out the oilyness of my skin iykwim.

having said that im obsessed with eyeshadow and it can be heavy!

Primer will definitely help with oil control I use the MAC one at the moment but the Laura Mercier one also gets very good reviews (although not cheap). The MAC one is a bit cheaper. The Urban Decay eye primer is brilliant for under eyeshadow to stop it creasing too. The other thing which is really good if you have super oily skin but don't want to keep piling powder on are those blot films. MAC do them but I think you can get cheaper ones too. They just wick away the oil from your skin without interfering with your make up.

Yes, I'm having a similar problem with motivation. Also just randomly start crying out of nowhere, which is interesting! (Maybe we should chat more on the bereavement board if you feel like it. Might be a bit offputting for those coming to talk about make up Wink)

I have super oily skin so can definitely give you some recommendations as I've tried quite a lot of products!

A primer or a mattifying base under your makeup will definitely help. Be wary that not all primers are the same (e.g. some are hydrating), you want one with a mattifying effect. I prefer Smashbox Photo Finish Light. You can buy sample sizes online from Just Beauty Direct if you just want to test it out.

The best foundations I've found for oil control are Chanel Mat Lumiere, Makeup Forever Mat Velvet (harder to find outside London) and MAC Studio Fix. I prefer the liquid version to the powder.

Make sure you set your foundation with powder. Don't apply it with a brush - press it into the skin with a puff. By pressing it in, you get a lot better oil control as the powder is worked into your skin. The best powder I've found for oilies is MAC Prep & Prime (which is a white powder that goes on clear), it has superpower abilities at absorbing oil.

Make sure you blot if your skin gets oily through the day, I always carry blotting papers with me to mattify my skin without having to use too much powder. I buy Clean & Clear oil blotting sheets by the dozen from Ebay (they are much more effective than paper blotting sheets).

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I have oily skin, sometimes less and sometimes more oily. I have Mac Studio Fix Foundation and it worked very well for me in summer, even without a primer but now when it's cold I tend to have normal skin and then it looks too much in my face IYKWIM. I then use Chanel's Aqua Vitalumiere and it occasionally I mix them both.

On the rare occasion I use a primer as well, first I bought one from Estee Lauder but I couldn't get hold of it when I was working abroad and bought one from L'Oreal, which works great too.

PLUS I don't know what your skin routine is but since I started using Effaclar from La Roche Posay my skin got a lot better. I use it in the morning and in the evening with a muslim (I read somewhere that you shouldn't use flanels for your face as it's too aggressive for the skin.) and it works.

Right... went shopping today and tried to get the LM primer but fecking harvey nicks couldn't take my gift card as their system was playing up Angry (I'm not impressed with this store y'know - supposed to be a superior store yet everytime I've gone in there half the women in the make up section look a mess (holes in tights, scuffed shoes, badly applied make up, etc) and I never seem to be able to buy what I want for one reason or another).

So.... onwards I went to HoF and got samples of lancome Teint Idole ultra and Teint Idole silky matte as the lady on the counter said it might be better for my oily skin. Is their primer any good cos the lady was very nice and had personality (which a lot of make up counters seem to lack round here...) so I might buy it if I get on with the foundation....

I still have 50 quid on my cabot circus gift card so might spend it in HoF on lancome as I can't spend it in Harvey Nicks....

Thank you for all the other advice too ladies :)

I'm using simple face wash and moisturiser atm as I've been a bit slack with my skin care over the last month or so, before that was finishing off a combination of avon/soap and glory/boots/aldi stuff before using aquaeos for bit as I've got a problem patch on my face (using antibiotic cream on just this patch when i remember

I'm rubbish at touching up my make up so spend most of the day without lipstick so I doubt I would remember blotting papers but good idea for a night out!
