This Great Plains dress for a Christmas party? (or is it too summery?)

Hello, could anyone offer some advice? I bought this dress from Great Plains in July - but could I wear it to my work's Christmas party, or is it just too Summery? What accessories would make it more festive? (I really don't want to splash out on a new frock!)

Thanks!!

that is one heck of a gorgeous dress - with purple tights and black patent heels (ie what the model is wearing!) it is PERFECT

It's gorgeous, and brilliantly useful in that it can be worn all year round with a change of accessories. I agree with Blakey that it just needs some nice opaques, (purple, brown, cherry red) and some lovely heels in either patent or suede in a similarly eye catching colour, maybe a big chunky bangle or cuff in bright jewel colours and bob's yer uncle.

Sorry for butting in with a question but.... I love this dress but worried about the shape not suiting me. Is it quite roomy on the top half? Reason I ask is that I brought [[http://www.coggles.com/item/Great-Plains/J1CE5-Steel-Dress/88OE this GP dress] back in the summer and it was very big and baggy on the top half. Just didnt look right on me. Im a size 12, standard pear shape, smallish chest. Does that sound the right bodyshape for the Finchley Park dress ?! Be honest!

I LOVE that dress, is it short on OP...? I am quite tall, but feel a purchase coming along.

Def fine to wear in winter.

Ollie it is a bit drapey on the top but not overly so. It's really really lovely, I'd say give it a try - I am also size 12, bit of a pear and I find it v flattering.

Couple of inches above the knee whoneedssleep (I'm 5'5)

Just looked at your link Ollie - the Finchley Park isn't pleated like your one so you shouldn't have the same bagging issues...

Did you get a medium then, tarti

Hello, thanks everyone - I'm looking forward to wearing it again after all your posts!

FellationNelson - good idea to go with a sparkly cuff - I'll do just that, maybe a bit of sparkly on a bag too.

Ollie, yes I'd agree with Tartiflette, it is roomy at the top, thankfully (I'm a size 12 but 32E) but I honestly think it would flatter lots of body shapes - I also really like that you can sort of adjust the neckline to fall in lots of different ways.

whoneedssleepanyway - I'm 5'8" and the dress is a little shorter than I'd normally go for (I'm 42) - pretty much as it looks on the model (the dress length that is, certainly not me!) - but I love it - how tall are you? Go for it!

I'm waiting for mine to arrive - do any of you wear a long sleeved T-shirt under for warmth.....if so, any suggestions?

I think any top worn underneath would have to have a very low scoop neck. I'm not sure it's the best dress for wearing a top under. I just wear it with a cardigan and some wooly knitted tights when I'm wearing it casually.

Dress doesn't look that low in pics but agree it would need to be a wide necked T - do you find it lower than it looks trixy?

What kind/colour of cardi do you wear?

It does seem to sit a bit lower on my neckline than it does in the pictures.

Have just bought this because of the mumsnet swears by email. It's a lovely dress. I'm having a complete wardrobe crisis at the mo. Body shape has changed a lot since having kids (was an atheletic/pear 10/12 now ummm an apple, well it's all boobs and tummy 14 +) and my wardrobe is just full of my mother's hand me down/fat clothes! Not sure what will suit me now. Hoping this dress does. I ordered large.
