Wedding dress needed for useless bride!

cakeismysaviour · 04/11/2011 21:26

Am currently putting off organising my wedding and I therefore need a dress! I dislike 'traditional' style wedding dresses, so I am looking for something a little bit different. I would basically like to buy a really special dress that I wouldn't normally be able to splash out on.

A few details - I am 5ft 8, a redhead and a size 6-8 although I still have some baby belly going on (not that bad though really and it should hopefully be gone by the wedding). I want something full length and pretty. Preferably in a lighter colour (eg grey or peach) although I am open to all suggestions! I like vintage clothes and anything pretty really! DP reckons I have a Sienna Miller type of style.. (I think thats a compliment!!)

Have you looked at Jenny Packham dresses? I think it's the kind of thing you are looking for. I had one and they are beautiful.

Is there anywhere online that sells them? The shops are not up to much around here really so I doubt anyone sells them locally.

Thanks for replying!

If I had my time over...I would go to the vintage wedding dress company. So many nice dresses!

The only ones I have seen online are on eBay or preloved sites. Where are you ?

That website does look nice, will have a proper look in a mo. Not sure if they have an outlet near here though but could travel I suppose......

I am in Lincolnshire.

If you're in Lincolnshire, it may be worth having a trip over to Hemswell.

Most of it is furniture, but there are a few vintage clothing rooms, although you have to dig deep. I have got some amazing bargains from there in the past.

They also have fantastic vintage rings.

For the dress... do you want sleeves or sleeveless? What's your budget?

How about something like this?

I was the same - lived in Australia and got collette dinnigan dress - she didn't do much bridal at the time. Have a look at her site - her dresses are beautiful. I adored
My dress almost as much as I did my dh

Hemwell looks fantastic, might suggest a drive to there on Sunday! :)

I am open to dresses with or without sleeves and there isn't really a budget as such, we won't be spending loads on the rest of the wedding so I can afford to splash out on a really special dress. I suppose £1.500 would be the absolute limit though. Could probably stretch to more, as family have offered to help with costs... :)

That dress is lovely but it isn't 'grabbing' me. Fab colour though.

Temperley? Check out the outnet and net a porter too.

To be perfectly honest my love it sounds like you could wear my nightie and everyone would still cry because you looked beautiful :). Might I suggest a good pro to set your hair into hollywood waves (see diane kruger for inspiration) and apply your red lippy, and pack a pair of pretty ballet flats for when you acutally need to walk x

Thanks for those links tethersend, number 2 and number 5 are very nice. :)

Thank you so much for the tips and the lovely compliment honey, I usually feel like a scuffy thing atm as my LO is still tiny and isn't a great fan of sleeping!

I have been googling madly today and whilst searching for Temperley and Jenny Packham, I found a dress that made me say wow! It seems to be a 2008 design and I don't know whether it was a one off or something, but it is the dress I now keep thinking about! Trust me to find something I probably can't have!

If anyone would like to see it, its the dress on the left on the third set of photos down the article. Right above where it says by Alice Temperley and Julien Macdonald. www.bridalwave.tv/2008/04/vivienne_westwo_1.html

Hmmm more googling has not turned up anywhere that is selling this dress. :(

Would it be hideously expensive to have made?

It's a Temperley dress right? It looks very detailed but reckon a good wedding dress maker would be able to do it!

Yes, I think so! It would be nice to have a better photo in order to see the details, but I can't find one. :(

Why not mail them the link and see if they still make it?
