I have found some bargain FitFlop mukluks on a US outlet site (am on phone so can't link). They will post to UK for free but anyone got any experience of this and know what costs I will incur this end? Will they end up not being a bargain?

Personally I wouldn't. I bought a couple of belts from the US a few years ago and the tax cost me about as much again. Can't remember the details of how they charge, but there was a charge of about 12 quid admin before even paying the tax (maybe the tax was about 20). I'd ordered some DVDs on another occasion though and paid nothing, I think they just check stuff randomly and you might get charged, you might not.

cherry pie how much are the boots?

say they were $70

than it would be

Total customs value: £42.43
Duty: £0.00
VAT: £10.57
Total import duty & taxes due: £10.57

Total landed cost: £53.00 at USD/GBP

based on todays exchange rate.

You might get even luckier and no get charged the vat on import and then only pay the 42.43

This isn't exactly is just a rough guess.

Put simply as they are under £135 and boots you wont be charged any duty, so you calculate via the exchange rate add on shipping if you have it then add on vat.

I get a fair bit from the state and abroad and I don't get taxed more than do. But I always calculate the full cost before I decide whether its worth it.

Wow, that's a fab post Honey thanks. They are $74.95 so your calculation is almost spot on. I will order I think!

hang on. Just checked the boots you may get stung for a 8% duty as they are leather (rubber is 16%) as they are not committing to a minimum value. so worst case scenARIO YOU COULD PAY £60.00.

I've never been charged this though.

You can also get a copy of customs charges they will have a book in the reference section of your library
