DP says top for wedding is disgusting, having clothing crisis

He hates patterns, I have bought a top that I knew he probably wouldn't like but I showed it to him today and he says it's vile. 'something that a someone middle aged would wear."

Plan to wear these trousers
Black wedges
Black bag (miu miu bargain from ebay)
Pink chiffon shrug thing

Have I completely missed the mark?

I'm afraid that that outfit would not be right for any Spring or Summer wedding I know of.

First of all you need to ditch the black accessories and grey trousers (it's not a work dinner). You need a dress in a Spring or Summer colour, and coordinated bag and shoes.

Is it the top in the pic? I see that outfit as more 'work-y' than 'weddin-y' tbh. How does it make you feel though? If you feel fab in it, roll with it!

What other shoes/bag/accessories do you have to work around? What's your budget for new things? What size and shape are you?

chrisonabike · 07/05/2011 17:57

are you tall? the lass in those trousers looks like she's on stilts!

Nothing else to add without seeing the controversial top.. other than I feel your anguish. I'm getting married next month and machine dyed my dress today. It's fucking shrunk Shock

Tell your dp to fuck off with his criticisms. He sounds really mean.

Like the trousers but not sure I would wear to a wedding.
I think a plainer, more fitted top would look better with them.

opps Top is on profile,

wedding is in v trendy islington pub, I'm not particularly lady like especially when pissed so was going to trousers instead of skirt, is it no good?

The top isn't sold any more but if you look at this link the first picture shows the model wearing it with some trousers.

Is it that bright chiffony number that you can only see the bottom of in that link?

netbook - wear the top. You like(d) it. Who are you going to take as your plus one? I certainly wouldn't be taking anyone who spoke to me like that.

(I think you should have said in your OP where the wedding was - I think it will sway the answers.)

Trousers are fine :)

I'd wear some bright platforms / wedges rather than black. Pink or electric blue maybe?

Yes!, if hover over the picture when it's on the main window the picture changes and you can see the back of it to get an idea of how it fits.

I'm really shit at dressing for weddings as I don't like short or tight clothes

have 4" black leather wedges to the trouser length is spot on.

I did tell him to fuck off, but am now having crisis of confidence!

I think if it is in a pub and you are more comfortable in trousers, then you should wear them.
I would wear either wedges or chunky heeled shoes/sandals - possibly in a shade the same as the trousers.
A fitted shell top or blouse could work well. I would stick to lighter more neutral colours for a wedding.
And a statement necklace

Have already sorted the jewellery have some sterling silver and pink agate cuff bracelet and ring.

Am far more comfortable in trousers than a dress,

wedding is at 1 in registry office then on to a pub for the rest of the day/evening/poss club (if' I'm still conscious!)

Have to stick with black shoes as I know I'll be able to walk by the end of the night as heels are normally reserved for short trips to a pub or car journeys!

Might ditch the black bag and look for something brighter?

I think that sounds like a good outfit and perfectly suitable for the occasion.

chrisonabike - Shock at your dress shrinking! What are you going to do?

Sorry OP I don't like the trousers or the top. However it's probably me that has completely missed the mark! I agree with other posters you should wear what you feel fab in - confidence makes up for all sorts. Enjoy your evening Smile

Think top is very nice.
Fine for registry office I'd say. Especially if you feel far more comfy in trousers and will be in a pub for most of day. Hope it's a great day!

THANK YOU!!!! Grin

stuff dp, he has no clothing sense at all, hasn't changed what he wears for the last 20 years (his opinion is you can't improve perfection!)

crisis averted. will look for new bag to help brighten it up some more.

(i'm covering my ears and going la la la to those of you who don't like it!)
