Can you afford a facial? Or Microdermabrasion? Will make a big difference to your complexion if you can.

I stopped the OCM after about a year, as my skin got really rough and spotty, but I do still use some of the principles of it in looking after my sensitive, dry, blotchy skin. I only use warm water and a flannel to wash my face, then a good moisturiser with sunscreen in the morning and a 2 minute face/neck massage with rose facial oil (Neals Yard, but you could prob make your own quite cheaply using essential rose oil and a base oil) every evening. The oil massage has deffo improved my complexion.

What make-up do you use? I don't trowel it on, but I do fid that I need a good foundation as I get older. I use a primer and then a little bit of a moisturising foundation (I love Chanel Vitalumiere, but the Boots No.7 Lift and Luminate foundation is a good alternative for dry skins).

What is your hair like? A good cut and colour hides a multitude of sins, imo.

I was going to suggest a facial oil too! Much better than a moisturiser.

Lots of water may also be the key....sorry to be dull!!!!

Bio Oil is really good for sorting out facial skin. Moisturises and evens out uneven skin tones. Put it on before you go to bed.

You can get these little sachets of microdermabriation stuff and collegen enhancer stuff in boots. About £1.50 each. I've used them and they're fantastic.

Also decent primer and a light foundation. Avon are the best cheaper ones athough if you have the money (I don't) then the more expensive ones are better. Someone else will know.

Exfoliation is def the key for me, twice a week is a must and I use a richer moisturiser which is also helping (currently loving Liz Earle moisturiser for dry/sensitive skin). I also use Liz Earle brightening boost which seems to get the circulation going and improve my skins appearance.

Agree a decent foundation is a must, something moisturising and illuminating, Estee Lauder Futurist is fantastic when I feel I need a radiance boost and makes my skin look lovely. Also, I wouldnt leave home without a bit of blusher on, if your skin is dry def try a cream blush on the apples of your cheeks, very youthful

Buy an exfoliator - Olay Regenerist or Origins are good.

Buy a new blusher - eg tiny pot of Max Factor creme blush - only about six squid.

If your going to Boots I'd suggest:

Cream cleanser and a flannel/muslin cloth to take it off with (dont use a facial wash on dry skin)
Exfoliator/scrub
moisturiser for dry skin (No 7 is good)
Estee Lauder Futurist foundation or Rimmel 25 hr foundation (both lovely and dewy)
Maybelline mousse/cream blusher

I'd suggest the sachets I mentioned up there ^^^. Be a few quid well spent.

Get a good exfoliator and a good moisturiser.

If you're going to boots and don't want to spend too much, I love apri apricot scrub twice a week before bed, followed by a load of astral rubbed in well. I use Liz Earle cleanse and polish cleanser which is fab too but a bit more pricey.

A dirt cheap exfoliator is warm olive oil and sugar. Rub it on with circular motions, then rinse off with warm water and a flannel. It's great for hands too.

Oh and I have Estee Lauder double wear light foundation which is fab on dry skin like my rhino hide

buy "wish upon a jar" by soap and glory, a 2 week intensive moisteriser. That and an exfoliant and a bit of sun will fix you up nicely!

WOW

I bought number 7 cloth cleanser, its lovely, nicer than Liz Earle I think

then I used bio oil last night after that

this morning I exfoliated and then used my new super sensitive moisturiser with an SPF in it, and for the first time in MONTHS my skin is not dry, or cracked - its actually glowing

new foundation Rimmel 25 hour, love it, so easy to apply and good finish, with the lightening illuminating under eye stuff too, dark circles are gone -

new cream blush (maybelline peach) first time ive ever used a cream blusher and OH MY GOD its so much better than the powder ive been using.

I now feel like I should bin all the other make up sitting in my bag!!

thank youso so so much

MoonGirl1981 - can you tell me the name of the sachets that you recommended up thread.

I'd like to try them but I was in Boots today and couldn't find anything like that.

My skin is almost perfect now I use liz earle hot polish cleanser, I think it's the muslin cloth that makes the difference.

Dermalogica multivitamin recovery mask is fab too, red areas go paler in just one application. Well worth the money one tube lasts me a year. Use it twice a week.

I find that using a fairly bright blusher helps too - Bourjois do a nice one -and I'm really pleased with the Bourjois foundation I bought too - it's the award winning one,
