Where would you go if...?

Have a day in central London planned for next week and need to find a prom dress for dd1. She doesn't want anything that screams prom and would probably be happier with something quirky or perhaps even vintage. Does anybody know where might be worth a look?

If it's near to an art gallery or a nice cake shop, even better! :)

Or brick lane/spitalfields (Liverpool st)

Or Portabello road.

Really Camden? Is it not all goth? Haven't been for years.

Ah. No. Not all goth anymore, has been 'redeveloped' and lots of vintage and new stuff. I preferred it before TBH, but I am 33.

Brick Lane/Spitalfields has lots of unusual and vintage stuff, ditto portabello. Or if you're in town, there's an arcade behind carnaby st with a few vintage shops in it.

How old is DD?

Ooh Carnaby Street sounds good as then I can go to Liberty! Can you name names?

DD is 16. Will put a photo on profile for a limited time only!

Camden has definitely changed Colonel!

Aren't the girls all into Super Sweet Sixteen look on MTV these days?? Have read something in the last few days about a few shops specialising in this and raking it in!

Will rack brains about where.

i would definitely try topshop oxford circus basement other than shoe section the rest is all concession brands with lots of dresses including a large vintage dress section.

failing that debenhams (don't be surprised) have lots of party dresses.

good luck

We've trawled through Debenhams and she doesn't like anything. Will deffo look in the big Topshop (though I can only manage ten minutes in there before I start to want to hurt people!).

sorry doesn't read well, i mean the entire basement floor is concession brands and vintage other than footwear. the other 2 floors are topshop brands. the store is 80,000 sq feet so a 16 year olds oasis!

She's beautiful!

I think topshop and carnaby street will do the job...

:) She's a sweetie, most of the time! Topshop and Carnaby Street to start then. We often go to The Sacred Cafe just off Carnaby Street for Earl Grey too, so can squeeze that in to de-stress!

Now - what shall I get for ME? :)

I would definitely try Portabello for vintage wear.

If you are off to Carnaby Street, can I suggest lunch here at Aubaine? Gorgeous little french restaurant and just 2 minutes walk from Anthropologie.......which also might be worth a look in for DD :)

Love Anthro but most of the dresses are too '50s housewife' for her, she says! We're both veggie, so French may not be the best bet for us but will certainly have a look. Thanks.
