Dry skin under eyes - How do I stop it?

I have noticed recently that when I put makeup on the skin under my eyes beside the nose (you know the really dark bit!) looks dry and flaky and the makeup sticks to it making it really obvious.

I am assuming that my old skin is just drying out but my normal moisturiser isn't helping. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem and Eucerin cream was the best solution I could find (better than ££££ undereye creams and my other moisturizers). I also use baby oil to remove the concealer, my previous make-up remover was too harsh and made the flakiness worse.

Don't think it's an allergy, certainly doesn't itch?

I will try Eucerin then and hopefully I will stop looking like a flaky face!

Now, just how to get rid of the dark shadows.....

My advice would be to buy an eye cream - it's quite common to get dry in that area.

Thing is electra, I am lost in the millions of eye creams available at scarey prices hence my plea on here. Sounds like Eucerin has worked for a couple of people and is not too pricey so I will try it.

Get enough sleep, drink gallons of water and use a good eye cream, oh and don't put too much make up on that area but get some good cover up that doesn't dry out too quickly.

What's the best cover up that doesn't dry out? I am rubbish with make up and creams and am obviously using stuff that's no good for my skin (I am 40).

When I went to buy Eucerin, I came across about a dozen different formulations. I've used this all over my face and undereye area, and it has been brilliant. Eucerin do a special eye cream and I've been meaning to try it, but ATM I'm so happy with a de-cluttered bathroom cabinet so I haven't bothered...

I use a Clarins one (in a skinny red tube), can't remember the name. I've got a good Bourgois one too but that can go a bit dry if my skin's having a bad day.

I use a thicker cream now than I ever have before and my skin loves it. Hang on, I'll nip up and have a look!

OK the eye cream is Dr Nick Lowe, Anti-Age Eye Serum, and the moisturiser I use in Clarins Hydraquench Cream spf15.

I've used the Dr Nick Lowe day moisturiser too which isn't bad, it just depends on the budget I have available! :)

Make sure though that you're drinking enough and taking a good multi-vitamin. It's really noticeable if I drink too little as my skin goes all rubbishy, I get a bit spotty and my nails are fragile. I'm 32 soon and have really noticed the difference in my skin over the last 5 years.

What undereye concealer do you use out of interest? I got awful flaky skin under my eye when I used Touche Eclait and it is a common problem.

i use clinique airbrush concealor under eye area , but I mix it with an eye cream before applying

eucerin is bloody amazing stuff

Ggirl, do you have fine lines under your eyes? I switched to Dior Nude concealer because won't settle into those fine lines like my old Polyfilla-like Revlon Coverstay. Unfortunately, the coverage isn't as good - some dark is still shining through. So I'd need a really heavy duty concealer that doesn't cake. Does Clinique fit the bill? (I have the world's darkest undereye circles and I can see my daughters are getting them too - lovely genes.)

I'm always worried about the reverse panda effect, my shadows are so dark that the amount of concealer needed to cover it all would end up looking atrocious! I have fine lines too, generally my skin doesn't look to bad for my age, it's only recently that I am really noticing it not looking great.

dona-under eye circles not that dark ,have got fine lines though.
I use a clarins eye lift cream mixed with clinique airbrush.
Clinique airbrush was recommended by Lisa Eldridge on her blog . Comes in 3 colours I think.

I was making up a young actor recently who had really dry skin around his eyes. It was a bit red and flakey as he'd had a reaction to something a few weeks earlier. Anyway, as part of the make up for the film I applied glycerine with a brush all over his face including his eye area -it's what we use to make people look sweaty, but it's also used in a lot of moisturising products. Anyway, the next day the skin around his eyes had gone back to normal so I think the glycerine must've rehydrated his eyes pretty well.

Just a thought. It's really cheap to buy a little bottle from the chemists - about a couple of quid. It's quite sticky so I'd recommend trying it in the evening and taking off before bed.

No, I think Vaseline would be too heavy. If you use stuff that's really thick and rich around your eyes it can cause milia.
