If you buy new clothes every season, what do you do with your old clothes?

Do they all get sorted and bagged up for the charity shops, or do your wardrobes just bulge more and more?

I am curious, as lots of people on here do update their wardrobes significantly every season.

I think I'm going wrong somewhere and need to get rid of older clothes before buying new ones...

Sell them on ebay,

Spend about 5k a year on clothes (prob a bit more)

Get about 3k from selling old stuff on.

yes, sell the nicer ones on ebay and charity shop the cheaper, more worn items

So does that mean you don't get sentimentally attached to items of clothing?

Oxfam - I try to operate a one in one out policy to avoid wardrobe bulging. I also think if you have all your old clothes in there taking up space you can't appreciate your new stuff. Obviously there are some items that you just wear periodically - ski gear, party frocks, but hanging on to stuff that you have effectively replaced in the vague belief that you might wear it again just means all your new clothes get squashed and crumpled.

I don't think you should get sentimentally attached (with the possible exception of your wedding dress). If you have photos of yourself wearing it that is souvenir enough - I don't think you need the actual garment. Unless of course space is no object, but even then what would be the point - if you are not going to wear it again get rid of it.

Sell or give them away to family and failing that charity.

No I keep core things like jeans. I have some things that I love and keep until they are a bit past their very best (they then go to annual charity car boot sale- it is very upmarket but the money goes to charity)

But if it didn't really suit, doesn't fit or if I didn't like wearing it then it is ebay.

I used to have a strict one in and one out policy but I have laxed it a bit recently.

I ebay my stuff too. I'm currently selling last summer's purchases: things that didn't quite work out because of weather or style. Sometimes I see a photo of myself in something and realise it was the wrong shape etc.
Some things you wear and wear, and so they need replacing because they've lost their shape. If it's not too bad it goes to the Salvation Army bin on my school run, slightly better it goes to Tenovus, and rarely worn, or in good condition, to Ebay.
I've also lost weight and have ebayed everything in the larger size. I like updating my wardrobe. Having said that I have bought some classics, hopefully over this winter, like J Brand indigio jeans, and a Barbour Cameron, also some Pure collection roll necks, that I think will make it to next autumn/winter!
I make a lot of my money back by doing this, and I keep my mind decluttered alongside my wardrobe!

I take care of the better designer things and will keep them for dd.
Stuff like whistles and lk Bennett -better high street thing - go on bay or charity shop. Although a huge pile are sitting in my basement awaiting a burst of energy to sort them

I keep quite a lot of things for more than one year.

If I cab't envisage wearing it again:
nice things go to the charity shop;
stuff that's "past it" - bobbled, faded etc - goes to the clothes recycling.

Similar to pagwatch. The odd designer thing I keep for dd or pass on to relatives. Most goes to charity shops ad they struggle to get decent donations.

The children have a choice ebay or charity shop.
