Like the style of the top ones slightly more but the bottom ones have the clever ice grip thingies (am going skiing).

I like the Merrell ones, but have never been skiing so have no idea which are actually best. I would buy those for wearing here!

How are the sizes bobble? If I need to add thick socks, do I need a size up?

I've tried both and bought the Merrell ones. the Coyoti were stiff and narrow on me The merrells are great and so comfy from the start. I wore them in Norway in temps down to minus 20 with no problem.

Sounds fab - Merrell it is. Should I go for my normal size then?

Size-wise they're on the largish size. I'm usually a 5 or 6 and have fairly wide feet and the 5's were fine on me. I got mine from the field and trek website, they were the cheapest I could find

Do you wear them with normal or thick socks bobble?

Reviving this thread as need a pair ideally less than £30 (50 max) for 2 week's time. Looking for some I can also wear in a normal UK winter and not zip up the front granny-style. Merrell Puffin Chill any good or do they look as if they belong in the mountains ?
