wedding in May - give me some ideas

I will be a guest at a civil ceremony in Manchester. I am an old school friend of the groom.

I have an idea that I want to wear a black dress with cream / gold accessories.

I am 5ft so finding dresses the right length can be tricky.

I don't want to spend more than £100 on a dress

Lots of people don't agree with me on this as its quite an old fashioned 'taboo' but i personally, absolutely HATE black at weddings.

I've always associated black with funerals and bright with weddings.
(Or black for a wedding of people you don't really like!)

I did check with my friend that wearing black would not offend and he said not.

Oh okay, well in that case it sounds very nice.

I'm quite tall so not sure on where to find one but you could try new look?
They have a 'petite' section.

Tethers - I am 5ft, size 10 - petite but with curves - generally in proportion though.

I would like knee length or just above the knee. Short sleeves, cap sleeves, sleeveless all fine. Fitted or flared will be considered - I just need some inspiration at tthis stage!

Thanks Tethers. I am never sure about long dresses on me - never sure that I am tall enough to pull them off. The Oasis one is very me though and will investigate that one further!

FWIW, and sorry to be a pita but your friend (or his partner) might have said he didn't mind but he might do.

I had 4 people ask me if I minded if they wore white and personally I felt that it was very rude to dictate to them what they should wear. But I did mind. (i'm talking to you, DH's ex PA you silly cow!)

No, my friend is very straight talking Grin
We have already been issued with written 'instructions' for the wedding day.
e.g. No DC, No wearing teal as this colour is reserved for the bridal party, No bringing partners unless the invite states they are invited etc...

I have an eye on this

Any opinions on whether it is smart enough though?

I quite like this

I have a black leather clutch bag and matching black heel courts.

I dunno about the boden one being smart enough.... possibly? Depends on accesories really, plus is the 'do' afterwards dead posh or in a pub?

Do you hate Tethers Shock!!!
Tillyscoutsmum - yes, I would go for the black in the Boden one.
The Precis one you have linked is also up for consideration - must go and try on.
hettie - manchester could well be wet and cold! Due to childcare arrangements we will be travelling from North London to Manchester on the day of the wedding and only limited time to change when we get there.

Sorry meggles, I do. I think it's a bit mumsy.

How about this? Or this? Or this?

Or how about fliiping the color scheme around and wearing something like this (incredible bargain) with a black cover-up like this or this or long sleeved?

Go buy the Jigsaw one - it looks fab and you should be able to get lots of wear out of it after the wedding.

What do you mean - Manchester will be cold & wet? Wink
