Merrell Puffin boots - suitable for fat legs?!

alittlebitshy · 12/12/2010 10:36

I think I am decided on a pair of these merrell boots but I just wanted to check one last time that they will fit over my tree trunk calves.

I am 5ft2, and currently a 14/16 but because of my short-arse-ness my legs have always been chunky, even when slimmer. I tried on wellies the other day and they got stuck so I was wondering if these would work for me.

Any one got any advice?

Thanks!!!

Yes they will be fine. I have very chunky calves (measure 39" at their widest all around) and have a pair of these fab boots. I've been wearing them all winter. Very warm and comfy. Go for it!!

I have sized up though as I found the foot size came up slightly small so you may want to order a size bigger than your normal.

I have these in a size 5.... they are a mere 10" tall. Have just stretched out the top of mine and got 16" so I think you would be fine. I got mine here...a wee bit cheaper and I LOVE mine - you will be warm, cosy and dry!

surely with hobbit toes you wouldn't have need of warm cosy boots

GoGo, do your calves really measure in excess of three feet at their widest? Shock Grin

Weeeelllll, I'm a 4.5 but bought a 5 - they're great with plenty of socks but I can't help feeling a 4 might have been better done......would have made life so much easier! Wish I could have tried on in RL.........I'm a bit of a perfectionist.....always looking for the Holy Grail Grin

I have graphite - which are lovely - but I have other clothes that would go better with brown. Never been tempted by otter - don't know why as I love my chestnut uggs...which are a bit similar.

I have these in graphite too. I think you would need serious cankles to have a problem with their width as they are pretty low.

Ref sizing, I am a 6.5 and regularly buy a 7 boot. My 7s fit OK but really need another pair of socks. Not a problem in this weather but agree with hobbit that you may find a 4 OK.

I got mine from this website. Really recommend them, quick delivery and (pretty impressively for boots) free returns/exchanges. They only seem to have brown 4s left though so exchanges might not be an option anyway.

anton just ordered them from there - thanks. I went with them/brown as they were the cheapest i could get. As you say the returns policy is so good, if they do not fit it looks like i can more easily get 5s than 4s, so can go elsewhere in need be!

and elsewhere 4s keep disappearing from under my nose..... so just went for it.

excited!!

Update: After ordering (and the money leaving my account Angry) I had an email saying that there had been a stocktaking error and they did not in fact have the suggestion of ordering he boots. I asked for a refund rather than something else from their site Hmm, obviously!

I nearly cried Blush.

BUT I have ordered them form Taunton Leisure now (in graphite this time) and they have been dispatched! Hurrah.

Oh crap. Sorry, I feel vaguely responsible for recommending them now. Sad. Hope your refund comes through quickly.

On a brighter note, I do think graphite are great. Hope they fit OK after all this Smile

The boots arrived. Very impressed as they estimated between 17th and 21st.
It appears i did order brown after all. I did so much researching i got confused about what was where.

Wearing them round the house right now. mmm cosy.

Not sure my jeans will easily fit in cos of fat legs but the important thing is my FEET stay dry!

yay. bring on the snow (well, just enough for me to test the boots out - not enough to make life slippery and miserable!")

Thanks for your help ladies!

Gaahhh, I suspected as much - mine are doubling as skis snow shoes Xmas Grin

And I wore them out today - took them for a trial in the snow.
Came back with lovely toasty toes!

They are supposed Hmm to be my Christmas present from my parents but I am sure my parents want me to have dry does in the lead up to Christmas Grin.

The only way a 5 would have been better for me would have been more space to accommodate my fat legs. they do fits it but it is a squeeze Blush and these is no room for my jeans (no skinny jeans/leggings here cos of aforementioned fatness). The 4s are just fine though, and as I have narrow feet there is a wee bit of slippage at the back even in the 4s but comfortably so iyswim.
