Best produts for smoky eyes?

I need to update my going out make up as most of it's been lurking in there longer than I care to admit . I have a few parties to go to this month and want to be able to do good smoky eyes. I've noticed that my normal Maybelline eyeshadows wear off after a few hours, so I want somehting with some staying power, good pigment and a good selection of colours. Is Urban Decay the way to go? Don't have a MAC counter anywhere near unfortunately

Smokey eyes is best done by using dark eyeshadow as liner and applying it with a think flat brush. You can then go as thin or thick as you like and blend it out easily. I use Benefit stuff personally but MAC is good too (you can order online).

Urban Decay is good for colour and sparkle. They do some blacks/dark colours for smokey eyes too and you can't beat the 24/7 eyeliners for staying power.

Some of the Nars eyeshadows in dark colours with flecks of blue/gold/green are good.

Bobbi Brown good for neutral/dark shades

Chanel do some beautiful colours,and I find they stay put very well.
Benefit does a little box that has written instructions.Has eyeshadows,eye brightener,pencil etc. Good buy.

For longlasting eyeshadow, try a cream-to-powder one (they look like lipglosses.) Smear it on your eyelids, keep your eyes down to avoid printing your brows LOL and give them a quick blast with the hairdryer on cool setting. Once dry, you can blend the edges with your fingers but the lids will be set all night (and the next day if you're an unhygienic slut like me.)

Get a good eyeshadow base. I use an art deco one. It's cheap and my make up never shifts. I just bought a lovely set of eyeshadows from estee lauder,it's greens, greys, black, and used over a dark blue eyeliner for the smoke :)

Bourjois have a wee smoky eyes pallette which I just bought, has 3 shades and are vehr expensive looking IMO, a mink/dark grey colour with a hint of sparkle. Apparently Bourjois make-up is made by the same folks as Chanel.

What products you use depend on the type of smoky eye you want to go for.

For a shimmery look, Urban Decay, Christian Dior or Benefit is probably your best bet. For a matt finish Urban Decay's Book of Shadows is fantastic and will allow you to do various smokey eye looks.

To avoid makeup rubbing off it is best to use a primer, Laura Mercier's mineral primer is fantastic and can be used on face, eyes and lips (No matter what makeup counter people say, primer is generally multi purpose).

If you want to go grey smokey I would recommend Chanel or else Nars 'Paris' eyeshadow duo.

If you want to go brown smokey I would second the Benefit set with instructions as recommended by another poster. Bobbi Brown also do a lot of smokey browns

For a cheaper option, Boots No7 also do a range of eyeshadow trios in 'smokey' colours
