My mum was a make-up-less, hair always tied-up, not particularly fashionably dressed, jewellery for special occasions type of woman.
As a teenager I used to wish that she'd be a bit more interested in her appearance, like my friend's mum who regularly went to the hairdresser and wore lipstick every day.
In my twenties I dolled-up (tarted-up even) every day, and spent a lot of money on clothes, make-up, waxing etc. etc.
Now I'm early thirties and have a two year old. It's rare that I'll have on more make-up than a quick lick of mascara, clothes that a comfortable and...my hair's tied back and hasn't been cut in two months.
NOW I understand why my mum looked like that. She had other priorities.
Hmmmm, I need to book a waxing appointment!
