can't quite get my head round spring as we are just into autmn- guess it's a great sales ploy to get us to commit our £££s with them and no one else.

But- same old stuff- even the names of the lothes are the same.

can see nothing I like except maybe the odd plain top or trousers.

very boring.

youll stil spend all next year talking about it PP Wink

Sherbert37 · 01/11/2010 09:28

I went to look and fully intended to buy a couple of things. Nothing. The patterns are wierd, well certainly on a cold November day anyway.

Have I missed any gems?

purplepeony · 01/11/2010 09:28

lol, I know but maybe this is the last year!

Agree that there is nothing 'new' and not huge amount that I like. As usual I will be sticking to the plainer stuff for myself - a couple of the breton tops, maybe the stripe tunic and and one of the cotton short sleeve empire line tops. I also like the slouchy handbag and the johnnie B scarf.

For DS, I will get the half zip coat and a couple of Ts

For DD, I like the denim dress, the T-shirt dress and again a couple of the Ts

TBH may well wait until January before ordering though as there are always discount codes about anyway.

Could you post a link please?

I dont see the point in ordering now either. Seems to me they are having bigger reductions all the time. You have to let their stuff grow on you!! Im not surprised its all the same as the previous years.

GuyFawkesIsMyLoveSlave · 01/11/2010 09:53

It mostly seems a bit summery for spring, too, so generally not stuff you could actually wear for another 8-9 months.

Some of the children's stuff is nice but, yes, in a "weren't you selling that last year?" sort of way.

Meggles76 · 01/11/2010 09:53

Let's face it, Boden is not cutting edge fashion and nor does it claim to be. They have a tried and tested formula and stick to it. The big pattern stuff has never been for me (am 5ft / size 8-10 and, frankly, it can look ridiculous) but there are others who love it. I am pleased to see that they are toning down the trims and contrasts on some of their knitwear - I have always found it rather twee. May get a cashmere cardigan (the slightly sparkly one).

I guess what keeps me going back is that there basics are generally good quality and there children's clothes are not mini adult fashions which I hate. Their customer service is second to none and I have always found their returns service speedy.

Sherbert37 · 01/11/2010 09:53

Like then idea of the Gypsy Top but I am not wearing viscose in the summer (not even in Scotland).

SerendipityAlways · 01/11/2010 10:01

Yes agree largely with you all. I dont shop in Boden for "cutting edge fashion" - I shop there for the basic staples in my wardrobe, like the version of the berton stripey top for Spring 2011, some new colourways which I like.

I wore last years navy stripey Breton top ALL Summer with white capris and loved it - so will definitely invest in a couple of new ones for next year.

kittya · 01/11/2010 10:04

did you get a link to the preview? Im annoyed that yet again I didnt get an email.

SerendipityAlways · 01/11/2010 10:06

Kittya - like you I NEVER get emails from Boden alerting me to sales etc, and I do buy a good bit from them. I only found out about it here on MN!!!

Not one of the priviliged few obviously!Hmm

kittya · 01/11/2010 10:10

i spend alot of money on them. I have friends I have introduced who get emails and havent spent a penny on them!! Like you I rely on this place to hear about the bargains and when I do accidently come accross them I make sure everyone on here knows!

higgle · 01/11/2010 10:52

I'm not keen on committing myself to what I'm going to wear next summer now. I do however know that I will want a top with which is closely fitting and that tucks in, or just rests on the waist line. WTF does Johnnie only offer us baggy tops like smocks - I know he doesn't do sexy, but nothing annoys me more than baggy unfitted tops that make me look as if I have no wasit at all or am covering up a load of flab. Just one or two would be nice!

purplepeony · 01/11/2010 11:11

Agree it's not cutting edge but what I do object to is the same styles as this season but in different colours. eg merino cardi with a chiffon trim, same old ( boring) favourite cardis etc.

I can't see one dress that I would call remotely "sexy" all very very dowdy- and I am mid 5os FGS! (Though peeps think I am 43 for some reason Confused )

I can see a couple of cardis- one with a chiffon trim and possibly the cotton capris but that's about it.

They have upped the prices- £137 for a trench coat??!!!

I also wish they would drop the "chic" and "sassy" labels- that's for me to decide!

I think Jigsaw has got its act together now and apart from the £££, I prefer.

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 01/11/2010 11:52

The 'funky' label is also well past its sell-by.

Meggles76 · 01/11/2010 17:13

Purple - the 'favourite' cardigans have always been rotten IMO - the cut is always unflattering anf the colours and trims are awful.

I prefer merino wool but not sure about the chiffon trim

kittya · 01/11/2010 20:00

well, I will order the plimsolls as I do every year but, not with that 20% offer I will do the spend £30 nearer the time. 20% off is not much tbh, considering how over priced it all looks.

Agree, it all looks too Summery for me and, infact, it all looks like holiday wear and thats the last thing on my mind this cold November night.

For those that havent been getting emails, I called them and they said on my details I have ticked the box to say do not send me any offers. I find that hard to believe but, you might all like to check that.

daisylonglegs · 25/11/2010 01:19

I agree...its almost Christmas and I am not interested in buying for Spring. The discount for buying from the preview page seems to have gone. The clothes look like last years and the prices are absurd for the quality; I sent back almost £1000 of clothes and only kept a skirt. The bags usually get me but, I have two of their satchels already and its all so samey...The dresses are frumpy but, they do have some (very excpensive) mini boden as always...
