Please advise me on coat shapes

I am 5" 5 with largish chest and generally curvy

What is going to be the best coat to suit my shape as I get it wrong every time. Last year I had a lovely navy wool 3/4 length coat but it is double breasted and makes me look large.

Would a swing coat suit me more or should it be fitted at the waist? I did but one last year which was fitted but felt like Kirsty Allsop and a bit 'smart'. Ended up selling on Ebay unworn.

Are there any coats you could suggest? I don't mind what colour although would like something purple/navy/teal

Are you larger on top with slimmer hips and legs? If so a coat that tapers towards the bottom (rather than flares out a la kirstie) might be best.

Patronising and badly written, but contains some basic info on choosing different styles for different body shapes.

What is your favourite shape of dresses and jackets?

I am hourglass,32H bust. You need single breasted, with lapels, nipped in at waist.Something like this or this.

I am top heavy with big boobs and smaller hips so and usually wear a coat that flares out to balance me out

soemthing like this

although that might emphasise my shoulders too much

no use for pears like Kirsty though

i would prefer this to be single breasted

if you find the perfect coat and its double breasted, someimes you can just change the buttons for ones that match the colour of the fabric, so you are not emphasising two lines down the middle of your boobs IYKWIM

youngblowfish - I usually go for either tunic and a-line dresses and for coats I really like the swing coat style but it makes me look more busty. Thanks for the link that has some useful info

woosidaisy and KristineM - thanks for the suggestions. I really like the Holly Willoughby style coat and the tweed Monsoon number
