Just wondering what to wear? I've never been before, dp and male friend are both wearing suits.

I've only ever heard of people going in summer and getting very dressed up.

So wondering what to wear in this weather?? Help.... Confused

Pretty much anything from Max Mara - I bought a tweed dress there (Harrods concession) last week and it's absolutely divine :-) Plus good sturdy leather boots (lots of mud at winter races), a coat and leather gloves. Enjoy!

Something warm and like Howdidthis says, boots, coat and gloves. If it's a country meeting esp I wouldn't bother with a hat tbh - I spent my childhood and teenage years on racecourses and unless the Derby or something equally special, most people go for warmth and comfort ahead of high fashion. Enjoy Grin

I love the grey one and purple one, only problem is I would not have that much money to spend if i was buying something new. also i am working tomorrow so will not not have time to go shopping :(

so from the clothes you have both suggested seems like I should wear something smart, a cross between work wear and evening wear. Does this sound right?

I am going to have to find something from my own wardrobe.

If you've got tickets to an enclosure then yes, I'd dress up a bit but IMHO, don't go too far towards evening or wedding-y wear IWKWIM. Can you pop a coat over something and just hook it over your arm or back of a chair if you're inside - if you go to see the horses in the Parade Ring, you'll need something to slip on. Alternatively, jacket with nice scarf. It's hard to get the between fashion and practicality sometimes! Most important is to have fun and don't spend too much Wink!!!

Thank you. So what do you think about wearing a black satin pencil skirt with a nice top? And scarf?

I'm pretty useless on the style-front Newstart but I think that sounds lovely. What footwear will you wear?

oh good point, as cant wear boots with a pencil skirt as its too long, I will have to raid my wardrobe... Grin

actually i have a brown tweedy style skirt and lovely brown boots, maybe i could wear that with a nice top? hmm...

Wear whichever skirt you feel most comfortable in - if you're going to be inside most of the time then boots won't be necessary!

Where are you going? At formal race meetings there isn't much mud for most people: concrete & tarmac unless you plan to walk the course or are an owner/trainer going in the paddock. Point-to-pointing is different...

Unless you're on a corporate jolly (ie. in a box) I'd wear warm coat & scarf & comfy shoes though... you'll be outside to see parade ring, bookies, finish line and watching some races from the stands. You can go indoors for food etc but don't get the atmosphere in there and can only really watch on TVs.

Have a good time!

We were on a corporate thingie at Perth races yesterday - I wore smart black trousers, a nice black and white top (lunch was included) and a nice warm jacket for when I was outside. It was a tad chilly and I did wish I'd worn something slightly warmer underneath as well as a scarf, but that's just me - I tend to feel the cold these days.

I was at Royal Ascot in the summer, in a box. It was FREEZING! There is a howling gale that blows down that racecourse. It was June, and I was very glad of my coat.

My tip would be smart, with plenty of layers!Think lunch out with inlaws rather then evening/wedding look, I think. It's not usually like the Ladies Day fashion parades, all big hats and maxi-dresses, that you see in the papers.

Whatever you do, try not to look like a bridesmaid. No dyed satin heels, or big feathery fascinators. I'm sure you wouldn't in any case. Only DH and I always have a giggle when we see 'laydees' who do this to winter season race events :o

Was there yesterday, was fantastic in the box but a howling gale outside. I wore a grey tweed dress and jacket - think Mad Men not Barbara Woodhouse!

All the girls in our box wore dresses, heels. I took a silk scarf, it saves the blow dry if you get caught in the rain. The men wore suits but slipped their ties off in the box.

I wasn't thinking of wearing feathers luckily... Grin

alouise - i was thinking of wearing a black pencil skirt and a smart top/blouse, with a scarf... what do you think? and black pointy heels? not sure if that is good or not...

I think that sounds lovely, pointy heels are a nightmare on the grass but in the box you'll be fine. I took flat shoes to walk from the car park to stop sinking!

Have fun, Kieron Fallon seems to be on form.

What did you wear? I'm going in November and plan to wear a joules fieldcoat with brown leather boots - just looking for a skirt/top combo or tweed-ish type shift dress to wear under as we are in going with work & the boys are in suits....any help gratefully received!
