I'm 41 - too old for skinny jeans?

decena · 17/09/2010 18:29

I'm a youngish looking 41 and still slim - can I get away with skinny jeans, nothing dressy, just with boots and a jumper etc. I have "really good long legs" to quote my DH, so I do worry in case I look a bit like a tart?!!
Anyone else my age wear them?

Oh my god - you are 41 not 91 - of course you can wear skinny jeans!

I am 38 and wear skinny jeans, mini skirts etc.

Oh blimey.. I'm 41 and wear whatever I like.., like the style Goddess traceybath (hey you! Smile)

Style wise I get younger as I get older IYSWIM.
I love clothes and don't think there is an age barrier as such any more. Enjoy yourself! x

I am 39 and wear them. I shall still be wearing them in my 40's. Go for it :)

I don't think there are rules either but you have asked, which suggests you are not quite sure if it is entirely the right look for you? Smile

Just to be clear though - I dress for crap so have no business advising anyone else on such matters. Grin

God no - there is only too fat for skinny jeans, not too old.

Te, agree with Bonsoir. If you've got the figure for them, and they make you feel fabulous, go for it.

As for looking like a slapper too young, think 'elegant' with what you wear on top.

Def not too old! I don't tend to wear them, but it's because I have chunky thighs, nothing to do with age (I'm 42).

I wear them and I'm 49!

Those of us old enough to have worn them in the 80s are now well into our 40s, and plenty are wearing them and looking great.

Just wish it was possible to buy a pair with a high(ish) waist, as the legs are still fine, but the saggy tummy needs help.

I,m wearing them at 48 and dd[12] told me I looked good in them,so if she approves then its ok for me.

onimolap, try Oasis or Primark. I have cracking legs but saggy tummy and both shops seem to cater for this. Avoid Topshop liek the plague...

yes, deffo. If you have the right figure for them age doesn;t really matter. I got a fab distressed dark grey pair from River Islan (really rock chick) I'm 43 next week, size 6-8. Go for it!!

My DD says I look good in them and I don't have long skinny legs either. Mine are from DP's and they are the only pair I've tried on which didn't make me look hideous.

Second the Dorothy Perking skinnys. They are a cross between straight and skinny and are flattering if your legs aren't actually skinny!

I'm 40 and a half (so much younger than you Wink) and I still wear them. If you have a reasonable figure then there's no reason not to.

Wear them all the time, I am 38. Definitely about them suiting your body shape, not what age you are. I bought a great pair in Asda today, jeggings actually rather than jeans (I hate that word!). They come up high waist so over the tummy, and 25% off this week, so just over a tenner!

Mine are black, they are really flattering.

onimolap - try topshop Kristen. High waisted and fab.
OP - am 38 and size 12-14 but love my topshop skinnies and have had loads of compliments such as (gosh, haven't you lost weight).

I'll raise you, usual: 55. It's the figure, not the age, as bonsoir has noted. The ultimate test is that my teenage DD does not recoil in horror when I wear them.

Having said that, when she doesn't like something I wear, I say meh, kids, what do they know?

I echo what usual and echt say. Some girls at 20 shouldn't be wearing them: age has nothing to do with it.

If you've got it - flaunt it.

My uber glam mum wears them in boots, and she's 63yrs.

She's fab though.

One of my students wears them and she's 66. She is lovely and slim and very rock chick.
