Suede boots in autumn/winter?

Is it a mistake to buy suede boots for autumn/winter? every pair i fall in love with is suede.

Does spray protector mean i can wear them on a wet/damp day? can i wear them if it actually raining?

I wear suede boots in winter but only really when it is dry. The protectors are ok if there is a bit of drizzle but not really any good for wet weather.

As I commented in another strand, the two pairs of black suede Fitflop boots I bought last winter survived the snow, etc virtually unscathed. I did spray them, but was told when I bought them the suede/nubuck material Fitflop used was particularly water-resistant. Didn't really believe the shop at the time, but perhaps something in it.

Otherwise, have generally found suede shoes OK, for autumn at least, with a good spray. The thicker the sole, the more the suede itself is kept out of reach of puddles, etc.

I had a pair of black suede boots a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised how well they wore...had them about 2 or 3 years, can't remember. I did spray them well and wore them in every kind of weather and they got no stains. I imagine a lighter colour could potentially stain over time, though.
