Ok so I've read that dark jeans, top and heels is a bit dated...

... in which case, what are people aged early/mid 30s wearing on nights out?!

I don't want to look dated but am not a particularly avid follower of fashion either. Have a BF 8m DD so am just getting my head back into thinking about going out at all.

Am thinking it might be tunic-type tops/dresses and leggings? Fierce type glads/sandals or shoe boots? Or am I way off the mark?

Help me before I go out dressed like my mum

Personally, I think jeans, top heel combo is a safe combo that will never go wrong.

It depends on your shape but I don't think leggings tunic combo is all that flattering for most people. I have a bit of a tum but good legs and feel that I look a bit like a lollipop, or worse, pregnant.

What about a maxi dress with glad sandals. Not loving shoe boot things either - they look a wee bit too fashionable (hence will look dated soon).

Disclaimer : I don't go out much, so what to I know Blush

I swear by my jeans, heels and dressy tops when I go out. I feel comfortable, dh compliments me (well when I could get away with them I'm 14 + 4 wks pg now) so I'm sticking with them Smile

How can jeans and heels be old fashioned anyway?

Not dated. Classic. Not exactly fashionable or "on trend" or anything but nowt wrong with it.

It's what some of us like to call "normal clothes". Wink

I've been out once since DD was born so you know more than me! Grin On that occasion I did wear the fail safe outfit but having read on here a couple of times now that it was "over" I'm now thinking maybe I just look boring/mumsy?

Would love to do maxi dress but am 5 feet and i know Nicole Richie etc can do it but it's so difficult to pull off. When I tried it I think I just looked like a hobbit in too much material.

in the same way, I think the tunic thing could drown me and I have the 2-kids-still-flabby-tum as well Smile so looking pregnant is a real issue.

I guess I'm clutching at straws that there's been a memo I missed on what the jeans, top, heels combo has been replaced with Confused

Oh it did me a long time to write that!! More replies. Thanks everyone.

I like to think "classic" too. To be honest, that's more my everyday style.

I was worried I thought classic but I looked dull. Excellent. So if that's still ok, I'm going to look for a new top for Saturday night.

I'm ridiculously excited. Am going out. To a pub. With adults. No children. And alchohol.

Thanks!!

I go out so rarely (DDs both still v.small) that jeans, top and heels is reeled out virtually every time I'm on the town Hmm. Having said that, I've bought some fitted dresses to wear with heels as I refuse to stand and now go to places where I can sit in comfort with glass in hand.

I can now manage the same in glasses of wine that I used to in bottlesConfused.

Old age is fast approaching!
