Personal Evacuation Plan??

OK, after a full year at uni, it's been decided I need one of these because of my visual impairment. So I'm having a meeting with my lecturer next week. But can someone tell me exactly what one is, maybe give a few examples? I want some info before the meeting, so that it doesn't all go over my head. Might be more relevant to lecturers if any of them are about?
