I have to draft a short story for the prose unit I'm doing. It only has to be 500-1000 words but I'm fick innit.
I've done about 600 words, but now I've lost my way. It's boring, all the youngsters will be doing it about exciting stuff and mines predictable and crap. Arrrgh!

Does anyone have any tips?

I rue the day I picked this unit. Rue, I tell you.

To add to the joy, we then go over a few randomly selected pieces of work each week. It's anonymous, but the scarlet cheeks and death stares give the game away somewhat.grin

What sort of tips are you looking for? Why do you think your story is boring? Is it the character/s, the storyline, or the actual writing? Have you got anyone else to read your work? Do they think it's boring? Maybe you're being over-critical.

You might have more luck posting on the 'creative writing' board in 'In The Club' section. Lots of writers there...

Oh right thanks.smile I did look for a creative writers bit but obviously not hard enough. I think it's lack of confidence really, and tying the plot up neatly.
I often come up with domestic settings and topics which seem predictable and cliched compared with the much younger students. However, my stories have been well received and are well written IMO so I shall suck it up.
This unit is harder than researching and writing a great big essay!

Just look on the relationships board and I'm sure you'll find lots of inspiration! wink
