Body Pump - do I just GO to a class, then, do I have to know anything before hand?

There's a class on at 12.30 today at my gym... I could go...
I did it years and years ago so I sort of know what to expect.

Will I feel all fumbly and silly getting all the kit out?
Do people turn up very early?

I haven't been for ages but used to love Body Pump. I'd go a few minutes early so you have time to get your weights and stuff and take a strategic position where you can see well but don't feel too exposed. If the instructor is any good they should talk you through the exercises and make sure your technique is sound, they may also ask you about any injuries or health issues too.

Go! Introduce yourself to the instructor, then lurk at the back.

There is always a massive range of ability in any class.

How long does it take to make a difference?

I swim 2-3x a week as well. Was also thinking of going to a spin class but too scary!

spin is not scary its lovely and cuddly and great cardio on short time frame, body pump is scarey and hairy and they grow on your chest if you do it more than 3 x per week - I have seen them wink I do it twice at very very most cos of them hairs

Thanks ivykaty, tried spin twice last week and loved it. Will alternate spin and pump I think. And the odd swim now I have my aquabeat it's much less boring

Yes go, its fun. At our gym there is usually a class on befroehandand a queue waiting for them to come out.

So go early and tell the instructor its your first time. Ask her what weights to use. You probably only need two diffenert colours, a lighter one for biceps, triceps and shoulders and a heavier one for back and squats. For the first few times you are just trying to get the correct technique and the weights dont matter.even if it seems light it will be heavy after 70 or 80 reps.

Joggers, trainres and t shirt are fine.you dont need gloves at first.

Other class members will be lifting a wide range of weights, especially if there are men and women, so dont feel embarassed. Everyone is just working at their own level. In the class i go to there is a woman in her 70s who does most tracks without any or minimal weights and guys lifting bigger weights
