Speedo is looking for 15 Mumsnetters and their children to attend the 'Underwater World' VIP day in South Kensington on Tuesday 29th October.

Here's what Speedo have to say, "After new research revealed that 81% of kids wished they could go swimming more often and that a third would rather get a new badge for swimming than be able to ride a bike without stabilisers, Speedo wanted to celebrate this by hosting a unique Underwater World event for kids and parents."

The pool will be transformed into an underwater world experience for Mumsnetters and their children to explore. The day will also include a swimming lesson from an Olympic swimmer, which will cater to all swimming capabilities and a Q&A session with the Olympic swimmer to answer your queries on teaching your child to swim. But don't worry, there will be lots of free time for you and your DCs to have fun splashing about by yourselves and with other Mumsnetters as well.

The day will take place on Tuesday 29th October and will run as follows:
11:00 Arrive
11:15 Welcome performance
11:30 Swimming lesson and games
12:30 One on one Q&A with an Olympic swimmer – ask for expert tips and advice on how to teach your children to swim
13:00 Lunch
13:00-16:00 Free time in the pool

Everyone who attends the day will receive a goodie bag as a thank you.

Those of you who are selected to attend the day will be required to come back to a thread on MN to share your experiences and answer a few questions.

This event is open to all Mumsnetters with at least one child under the age of 16. We're also interested in knowing if anyone who applies has a blog and can blog about it (please tick the relevant box on the sign up form if so).

If you'd like to attend please sign up here.

Thanks and happy swimming,

MNHQ

NaturalBaby Tue 08-Oct-13 14:39:15

Is there a minimum age?
My dc's would love this (and so would I!) but I have a 2, 4 and 5yr old so not sure about the practicalities of managing the day with them all?!?

bellamysbride Tue 08-Oct-13 14:53:41

Signed up. Really excited. Please let us get a place.

Yes I'm a bit concerned about only having 1 pair of hands and a 1 and a 3 year old.

Nittyb Tue 08-Oct-13 15:39:35

Fingers crossed !

pickofthepops Tue 08-Oct-13 18:01:19

Fab idea. Please choose us. I have been making excuses about taking DS on my own despite him having done well on crash courses. Really nervous about taking him swimming my own mainly on the safety side. This would help SO much. Please pick us!

nobutreally Tue 08-Oct-13 20:43:54

Wow, sounds absolutely amazing, although I prob need to be working that day. What a great opportunity!

Parisbanana Tue 08-Oct-13 20:50:00

Please choose us! Swimming related activities are something we can do together that really appeals to both a 16 and a 10 year old.

Signed up.

oh my 13yo would die happy if he could get some tips from an olympian! Swimming is his passion.

Just filled out form but think I wasn't appropriately enthusiastic about it in the comment box - what should be added is:

"wow wow wow DD would love this - it would make her half-term and probably give her the final push to really go for swimming seriously."

YoniMatopoeia Wed 09-Oct-13 12:35:33

michelleMN

Can dh come too?

bellamysbride Sun 13-Oct-13 10:34:21

Signed up and fingers crossed!

I hope no one is going to be taking pictures of me in my swimming costume! Sounds great though so I'll risk it.

MichelleMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 14-Oct-13 10:10:53

YoniMatopoeia unfortunately there isn't room for partners to come along as well, but there's no limit of the number of children you can bring.

I can bring more children if that helps my case....

When do we find out?

idleweiss Thu 17-Oct-13 19:43:54

Hi! When do we find out if we have been chosen? Have everything crossed and even bought my DDs and me swimming costumes in case we were! smile

moldingsunbeams Sun 20-Oct-13 16:27:05

DD is VERY excited about this!

gazzalw Sun 20-Oct-13 17:39:02

enjoy MS!

moldingsunbeams Sun 20-Oct-13 21:08:53

Thanks, has no one else heard though? I am beginning to worry my email was a mistake if no one else heard now!

bellamysbride Mon 21-Oct-13 13:43:53

Have a fab time molding. Sounds amazing. We didn't hear anything.

Fillybuster Mon 21-Oct-13 13:46:07

We've been selected thanks but I'm actually a bit worried about the logistics with a 3, 5 and 8 yr old and no dh!

I'm just wondering what sort of pool it is...given that it's at UCL, does that mean it doesn't really have a shallow end? Just trying to figure out whether this is going to be feasible with a 3yo who can't swim, a 5yo who can swim but only learnt fairly recently and a reasonably good 8yo?

Can you help please MN? Is there really no room for partners to sit on the side and look after smaller children if needed?

moldingsunbeams Tue 22-Oct-13 10:16:51

Filly I am coming with one ten year old who's not fantastic at swimming but can get across and is fairly safe so do not mind being an extra pair of eyes for you in the pool if that's any help?

It says on the email that its up to you if you sit on the side or come in so I am guessing for the swimming lesson part at least there will be people in the water with them seeing there will be beginner swimmers.

BadlyWrittenPoem Tue 22-Oct-13 18:34:44

We are really looking forward to this too!

DoubleLifeIsForAnyFUCKER Thu 24-Oct-13 01:10:01

Hello I got selected too, very exciting!

What do you think happens at the beginning? It says get changed but then I think there's a talk or something? Will we be hanging around in our cossies on land? Eek!

I am coming with a helper as am disabled, so she can step in to carry on w ds if I flake out. Does mean if anyone's desperate for an extra hand, I can offer my lovely helper to fish out any straying children!

Am excited, I've never met any mumsnetters before so will be nice to meet people too

moldingsunbeams Fri 25-Oct-13 16:57:41

I don't know double, I am horrified at the thought of being in costume out of the water overweight

DoubleLifeIsForAnyFUCKER Fri 25-Oct-13 20:43:48

I feel your horror and times it by two! (faaaat!).

They just sent an email saying we need flip flops... So it looks like poolside nakedness. I think I'll wear an old dress on top to maintain some coverage.

moldingsunbeams Fri 25-Oct-13 21:53:31

The end of the email keeps saying "if YOU want to swim" I am debating not getting changed until after the swim lesson bit to save face until I HAVE to get in for the family swim bit grin

DoubleLifeIsForAnyFUCKER Sat 26-Oct-13 01:40:29

Ooh that's a good idea! I'll have a swimsuit on ready underneath so could just put flip flops on and saunter into the intro bit, retreating to change after...

I will see what everyone else is doing I guess, but either will be fully dressed w flip flops OR in swimming cossie but with dress & long cardi on over. Though I suspect will be hot in there so cardi might be overkill!

Am v excited to meet other people and do the swimming thing... But am v nervous as I'm disabled and in this situation I can't cover it up as its all quite physical & I hope I'll still look approachable / up for a chat through the pain / heat/ stress won't make me look not nice to talk to! (quite recently disabled so not used to all this stuff)

moldingsunbeams Sun 27-Oct-13 11:47:58

Looking forward to meeting you smile
Does anyone know if its near the Victoria and Albert Museum or am I looking the wrong way?

moldingsunbeams Sun 27-Oct-13 11:57:01

Filly just had a look and not sure if there is a shallow end but its used by fast fins for swimming lessons for five year olds so hopefully will be ok.

Fillybuster Mon 28-Oct-13 15:47:00

Thanks so much for the offers of help...if it was me doing it, I'd completely take you up on it (and am quite sad to be missing out) but since it is DH, I don't think its fair to bully him into spending his day off doing something he doesn't feel comfortable taking on with the dcs on his own.

He's decided to take them to the local lido instead, so they're still going to get their swimming (just not the goody bags sad sad ) and he's got his ds coming to give him a hand.

Have a fantastic day tomorrow envy
