We are working with the team at Osper to find 10 MNers who are able to attend a workshop in London on Monday 16th February with their children (and their children's friends if applicable/ able) aged 8 to 18. The session will run from 2-4pm.

Osper is a company offering a prepaid Debit Card for under 18's with a mobile banking app for the family.

They say "The Osper Prepaid Debit Card is designed to safely introduce young people, aged 8 - 18, to making their own decisions with money: online, in shops, at cash machines and abroad. For parents your Osper App gives you a simple and safe way to give young people an opportunity to manage their own spending and saving."

You can see Davina McCall giving her personal opinion of Osper here:

They'd like to work with attending MNers and their families to get feedback on general attitudes to money and children - when kids feel they are ready to manage their own money, how it is given to them etc. The workshop could include group games and exercises such as trying out the product and brainstorming suggestions that might make it better, as well as separate one on one interviews with kids and parents. The findings from the workshop will help to guide Osper in creating their product.

The session will be held in central London and will last about 2 hours. It's going to be very informal with an emphasis on fun and creativity.

We're looking for MNers who can attend with one or more children aged 8 to 18 - unfortunately younger children cannot attend.

Please note, photos and video may be taken during the workshop - these may be used on forthcoming pages on MN as well as by Osper elsewhere, including on social media. The workshop will also be recorded and the comments made used by Osper in marketing materials. Please only apply if you're happy for your images and comment to be used like this.

After the session, we'd like attendees to share their thoughts and experiences on the day on a thread on MN. This thread will also feature a prize draw for non-attenders with a chance to win a prize from Osper.

As a thank you each MNer who attends the session and adds feedback will be sent a £75 Amazon voucher. No travel costs will be paid.

If you're able and willing to attend the workshop please add your details here

We will be in touch with selected MNers by 9 February.

Standard Insight T&CS apply. Any questions please ask on this thread.

I really don't understand the point of this - from 11 a child can have a debit card anyway on their account & that doesn't cost anything, nor can they go overdrawn.

Yet again children who live in London are asked.
Children live everywhere in the UK .
This makes me furious.
London Kids have opportunties that ours don't.
The North-South divide is fostered alive and well.

Sorry emmelinelucas - we do try and offer opportunities in other areas too (like we did for the Annie screenings in December) - we hope there will be other projects for Osper following this one.

Would have loved to (and am close to Canary Wharf - used to work there!) but DH is on a school ski trip and my other usual baby sitters are away so there is no one to look after the younger DC (aged 7 and 5)

I've put my details in. Could be an interesting day. I think there are issues around teens having cards - some positive some negative.

My ds (15) got a Santander card, and I thought "great he is managing his own money", all well and good. But I hadn't realised that would enable him to open his own Amazon and Netflix accounts - that one took me by surprise… but so far, he has been pretty sensible, so no harm done!

What a shame, I will be in London on the 17th...

What a shame it's during working hours....

My ds (16) has a Nationwide current account and so far is being pretty responsible with it. It's important they learn about money early on, hopefully it will save them making expensive mistakes....

Ooo super interesting. Ds2 doesn't even have a bank account Blush and the idea of giving him a bank card scares me. I'd love to learn more about it and we were planning on coming into London either that day or the next anyway so this would tie in perfectly!!!

from Osper: "Hi Eastpoint, the Osper offering is really aimed at trying to encourage young people to take responsibility of their own finances and is designed specially for children and parents. Features such as the ability to lock and unlock the card and requesting PIN reminders are not features available on standard bank accounts for children. Parents also have the ability to turn online spending off and on".

Why would they need to lock/unlock the card? I also don't see the need for parents to turn online spending off & on, surely the whole point is to allow responsibility & independence. Dcs have normal debit cards & have done since they each turned 11 - no problems so far.

Such sour grapes. Sometimes things are in London. It's the capital city and main location of many companies. There are plenty of product tests, surveys and sponsored discussions anyone can take part in.

But its not only open to rich kids Confused my children and I are far from rich. And we don't live in London.

A bit presumptive to say that all families living in London are rich! Hmm

Living in one of the most expensive cities in the World (and not all of us are rich - the very squeezed middle classes are alive and kicking and just about holding on!) has to have some advantages - and access to lots of activities and events aimed at families is one of them! That's partly why we live here!

And this is from someone originally from 'up North' who moved to London for all the great things on offer!

Hi my children have these Osper cards and I think they are a great idea. They have become so much more independent since having them. They are 8 and 10 (10 year old got his at 9)

Mentioned this to DD and she wants to know if it's £75 per family or per child and can she bring a friend. She is very money savvy, more so than me sometimes! She'll go far.

We attended his workshop yesterday. Is this where we add our comments or is there another thread?
Thanks
