SUBWAY® MN Screening of Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion Review Thread

AnnMumsnet · 26/09/2014 11:44

This thread is for the Mumsnetters who attended the exclusive MN SUBWAY® preview screening of Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion on the 28th of September. We hope you all had a great time and enjoyed the film!

Synopsis: Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. The clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost is amongst a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, encounter colourful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.

Subway has said “SUBWAY® stores have joined the rebellion with six limited edition Star Wars Rebels bags and trading cards to collect with the purchase of any Kids’ Pak™. The Kids’ Pak™ includes a Low-Fat 4-inch Sub, Capri Sun Fruit Crush Drink and a BEAR Pure Fruit Yoyos, giving kids two of their recommended five-a-day.”

You can view the film trailer here:

Below are a few questions for you to answer but please do add any other comments you may have.

We'd also love it if you could upload some pictures from the screening to this thread.

To see more photos from the day, head to the SUBWAYUKIreland Facebook page where photos will be uploaded from Wednesday 1st October.

Fairly standard story - selfish street rat gains trust, friends and a destiny all at the same time. Set against the background of fighting the empire.
Anyone who enjoys star wars should enjoy this (including me and mini me).
We had a fantastic morning. Thank you so much. Face painting, balloons, storm troopers, goody bags. It was a lot of fun. And thank you especially for the photos. Baby Leia looks very cute in them.

The kids pack was a nice touch and we've been able to give one to a neighbour as everyone was supplied with them.
And I was happy with the contents nutrition wise because of the two a day thing - much better than the jelly babies we took with us

We were the last to leave so it's hard to say which bit we enjoyed most. All of it Smile

Star Wars rebels - picks up the story after episode 3 but before episode 4 of the movie saga.

The event was Star Wars tactic - my kids loved meeting storm troopers!

Best thing about the day - my boys loved watching the Star Wars rebels episode - perfect for them (aged 5 and 8).

Kids pack - they loved them (especially the cards) and liked toting them around all day.

2 of 5 a day - yes, they liked the yo yos and juice.

Overall experience - Star Wars tastic! It would have been good if the activities could have been a bit more spread out as the foyer got packed and rather hot before the screening (the water provided by subway was a good touch). We loved having photos with the storm troopers - a great momento!

Subway stores - the sandwiches are pretty substantial so would recommend them to someone who wants to fill a big hole quickly.

All in all, had a good time - thank you so much for selecting us for the screening. And dh was delighted with his subway surprise when we saw him after the screening.

Thank you MN and Subway for an amazing morning - DD2 has gone to bed the happiest girl. When I asked what her favourite part of the morning was she said 'everything, it was perfect!'

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of Star Wars Rebels: A rascal turned good, all because of the pull of 'the force'.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the event: Perfect, just he right amount of time before and after for face painting and pictures.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day? To DD2 it was pretty much all perfect, DD1 loved the Kids Pac to eat in the cinema - apparently better than popcorn and sweeties!

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Star Wars Rebels themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received? They loved them, seats were chosen so they could get the ones they wanted most!

  • Did you know the Kids’ Pak™ gives your kids 2 of their 5 a day? Yes, we have had them before.

  • What was your overall experience of the Star Wars Rebels screening? It was a fantastic morning, not too big and busy for small people.

  • If it came up in conversation, from what you know, would you recommend SUBWAY® stores to friends and family? Why? Yes, my kids love the packs and I know they can have wholemeal bread, fillings that include salad/veg they eat and a treat that isn't a biscuit/cake that ends up spread all over my car!

  • SWR was a surprisingly good slice of the Star Wars story.
  • This event was well run, massively exciting for kids, and a real treat. Thank you!
  • the kids were thrilled about chatting with storm troopers and eating lunch so early Hmm
  • I had no idea Subway did kids' meals, and was pleased with the selection. Trading cards are a much better idea than plastic tat!
  • I didn't know about the 2 a day but I'm smug to hear it.
  • we all loved the screening, and were grateful for the genuinely friendly women running it with their copious stock of balloons.
  • I haven't been to Subway since my pre-children, drinking days and really hadn't thought of Subway as a daytime-with-kids option. I definitely will in future.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of Star Wars Rebels

An explosive, action packed addition to the Star Wars Saga

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the event

A slightly crowded, but fun and enjoyable morning with plenty to keep the kids occupied, and me (was pretty overexcited by the Storm Troopers! blush )

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

The Storm Troopers, The Build A Sub game, the Bear YoYos (they love them!) the scenes from SWR with the light sabers and Wookies!!

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Star Wars Rebels themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received?

They loved wearing the little bags and were chuffed to find their fave Bear YoYo, fruit juice and a collectors card inside.

  • Did you know the Kids’ Pak™ gives your kids 2 of their 5 a day?

Yes, as I have bought a Kids Pak before (would be good to see fresh fruit option too though.)

  • What was your overall experience of the Star Wars Rebels screening?

It was good fun, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (although my eldest was disappointed she didn't have time to get a SWR arm tattoo..an extra YoYo made up for it!!) I LOVED the photo ops with the Storm Troopers!!

  • If it came up in conversation, from what you know, would you recommend SUBWAY® stores to friends and family? Why?

I probably would, as it's quite good value for money..in-store kids can choose what goes in their sandwiches (my DCs were gutted there were no olives, onion dressing and sweetcorn in their subs this time!), and there is no refined sugars in the juice or snack, plus the little bags are fun.

Young unaware Jedi finds his calling when accidentally stumbling into rebel territory.

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the event
Disorganised but the kids loved it.

What did your DCs love best about the day?
The highlight for my DS was meeting a Stormtrooper. He was shocked when they moved as he thought they were statues!

The highlight for DD was making the giant Sub in under 25 seconds.

What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Star Wars Rebels themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received?
The kids loved them and have put the cards into their card collections. DH and I did not eat our Subs as the first 2 were void of turkey and the second 2 were soggy on the bottoms. Mary Berry would not have approved. I think they had been prepared too far in advance.

Did you know the Kids’ Pak™ gives your kids 2 of their 5 a day?
Yes, we use a lovely Subway for picnics on our days out. The kids enjoy the choice and I like knowing that they are getting veggies into them.

What was your overall experience of the Star Wars Rebels screening?
The kids had a great day and loved it all. As parents I would have liked more room to move and it would have been nice to know that the face painters were not painting faces just arms as after queueing for ages DS did not want his arm done. Coffee would have been nice too. On a positive note I liked that you had security at the doors checking kids were with adults as they left and the Subman handing out balloons was lovely.

If it came up in conversation, from what you know, would you recommend SUBWAY® stores to friends and family? Why?
Yes. I am a fan of Subway generally. I like the choice and flexibility of offerings. The price of a kids meals is reasonable and the little bags mean they are more likely to carry their own stuff.

Busy, joyous and a lot of fun for everyone in the family.
What did your DCs love best about the day?
The baby wookie in the cartoon and the goody bags!
What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Star Wars Rebels themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received?
Loved the trading cards and the bags, unfortunately not the drink or YoYo (slightly tricky eater!)
Did you know the Kids’ Pak™ gives your kids 2 of their 5 a day
Only since this event!
What was your overall experience of the Star Wars Rebels screening?
It was a huge amount for fun from the queue outside - seeing all the excited kids/grown-ups, getting DD into her costume on Shaftesbury Avenue - to the film itself and the activities after the screening. DD (5.5) was slightly overwhelmed by it all to begin with and it would have been nicer to take her into the cinema earlier but after being utterly engrossed in the cartoon she was much more willing to enjoy everything else. She built a giant sub and even posed with the Stormtroopers - despite them being bad guys. If they had been Clone Troopers (and therefore goodies) she would have had a photo on her own (so she told me) , but she did get a photo, standing close to Daddy! The photos were wonderful mementos - thank you to all concerned there!
If it came up in conversation, from what you know, would you recommend SUBWAY® stores to friends and family? Why?
Probably yes, they are very tasty!

Please give a brief, one sentence review of Star Wars Rebels
Placed in the timeline between the 3 'new' and the 3 'old' movies, with a young hero Jedi in training who has daring, ability and honour in his character, and will really appeal to younger children.

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the event
A lot of fun, with just the right amount of people to feel fun without feeling overcrowded and in a smaller cinema so the children didn’t feel overwhelmed.

What did your DCs love best about the day?
The movie, they can’t wait until it’s out on DVD. Surprisingly even meeting Storm Troopers didn’t match the thrill of the movie! They LOVE the new 'baddie' that they see right at the end of the movie.

What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Star Wars Rebels themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received?
I thought it was good healthy option. The premade ones weren’t brilliant for fussy children who won’t eat salad (sadly, mine!) but being able to choose your own fillings would solve that problem. They both loved the bags and the cards, and the fruit yo yos.

Did you know the Kids’ Pak™ gives your kids 2 of their 5 a day?
I didn’t, but do now!

What was your overall experience of the Star Wars Rebels screening?
It was brilliant. Even with DC who weren’t keen on the face/arm painting it was such a great atmosphere with everyone keen to see the storm troopers and the movie. Thank you for our photo!!! (And for our promotional Sign, thank you to the staff member who let us take one as a souvenir, we all love it!)

If it came up in conversation, from what you know, would you recommend SUBWAY® stores to friends and family? Why?
I would, because there aren’t really many healthy children’s options for quick and easy take away meals, and all of DC’s friends love Star Wars so would love the bags and cards. Especially as I have spotted one not that far from us!

----

Overall this was a great event, early enough in the day to not make a Sunday outing to London stretch into too long a day. I'm sure this new television series will really appeal to the younger children, probably more than the Clone Wars tv series does - and my DC do love that - its seems to be more child focused, and knowing the hero won't end up a 'baddie' is nice for them. They're really looking forward to seeing more of the series.

Taking the photos of the children with the Storm Troopers was inspired, thank you for the photo, my DC will treasure it!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of Star Wars Rebels

Exciting animated adventure in the Star Wars franchise - great to see some strong independent female characters.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the event

A lovely start to a sunny Sunday morning with Storm Troopers, treats and a special film.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

DS, aged 6, said he loved the film although it was a bit scary when he thought the baby Wookiee would not be rescued.

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Star Wars Rebels themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received?

DS liked it a lot and ate every bit, he said the sandwich was very tasty and he loved the juice and the Bear snack. I didn't know before that Subway did a kids meal and I was pleasantly surprised by it, the sandwich seemed fresh and the whole thing seemed relatively healthy as kids meals go while still being themed enough to be a novelty.

  • Did you know the Kids’ Pak™ gives your kids 2 of their 5 a day?

No, as I say I didn't know before about the kids meal at Subway; but I noticed the 5 a day message on the marketing materials.

  • What was your overall experience of the Star Wars Rebels screening?

A real treat for both of us, thank you for including us in the day.

  • If it came up in conversation, from what you know, would you recommend SUBWAY® stores to friends and family? Why?

Yes, I would; I would tell people the kids meal is a healthier alternative to fast food and the sandwiches seem fairly fresh and generously filled.

Please give a brief, one sentence review of Star Wars Rebels*

Captivating, exciting and fun animation based on Star Wars series about the rebels' rescue mission with some great characters and funny moments.

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the event

Fun packed morning with loads of fun activities for the children from making a giant foam subway, having a Star Wars painted "tattoo"

*What did your DCs love best about the day?_

My older son was in awe of being approached by a storm trooper in the lobby.
My younger son was in stitches at the slightly slapstick moments when the strormtroopers were outwitted time and time again.

What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Star Wars Rebels themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received?

They were really taken by this and their eyes light up when they saw the cool star wars tote bags and couldn't wait to look inside and find all the goodies.

Did you know the Kids’ Pak™ gives your kids 2 of their 5 a day?

No, I didn't, but I did LOVE the way that the kids got to munch on delicious and healthy subs during the film and the healthy yo-yo sweet (and that the usual multi-coloured sweets were hidden away). Cinemas should all have a subway!

What was your overall experience of the Star Wars Rebels screening?

We absolutely loved the film. My children aged 5 and 8 were not total Star Wars fanatics before but they were mesmerised by the film and i think this has now definitely piqued their interest!

We all really enjoyed and were impressed how smoothly the whole event was run. There was a bunch of really excited children in a small place but somehow it worked: lots of activities before and after the screening to keep everyone amused from photos wit the stormtroopers to tattoos and a subway game.

If it came up in conversation, from what you know, would you recommend SUBWAY® stores to friends and family? Why?

We are already big fans of the brand. When we are out and about for the day, we will always opt for a subway. My younger one loves the kids packs and my older son aged 8 demolishes a 12 inch. The bread always smells fresh and its great for children to be able to create a bespoke healthy sandwich with such a wide choice of healthy options in there. I would recommend to family and friends who wanted a quick, healthy and fresh meal option at a reasonable price.
