What does your LO's dream car look like? Share their ideas with Toyota and you could win a £50 voucher NOW CLOSED

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 18-Nov-13 17:22:41

This year is the 8th international Toyota Dream Car competition so if you can think up the coolest futuristic car you can, draw or paint it, then you could be off to the 8th Toyota Dream Car Art Contest world final in Japan next year. In addition to this Toyota are offering Mumsnetters and their LOs an additional chance to enter.

Here's what Toyota say: "Here at Toyota were always thinking ahead, wondering what the cars of the future will look like. It takes a lot of imagination to think of new designs, so weve decided to ask the people who might one day be driving those cars."

The competition is split into three categories:
- Under eights
- 8 - 11 year olds
- 12 - 15 year olds
It would be great to get as many children involved so don't forget to tell their friends or even the teachers!

What you need to do?
Simply get your DCs to paint or draw their dream car and give it a cool background so we can imagine what this will look like on the road. Or in the sky or even underground.....Don't use a computer to do it .. as that's cheating! grin And the paper you use must be A3 in size. Full T&Cs here

How do you send in entries?
Download the entry form here - Then post your design to Mumsnet (full address on T&Cs)
Please make sure all entries are signed by parent or guardian too.

How long do I have to enter?
MN competition closes on 16th December and our very own CarrieMumsnet will choose the top design from each age category. The three winners will each receive a £250 Amazon voucher.
All entries will then be sent to Toyota (GB) PLC and entered into the UK competition which closes on 24th January and followed by awards ceremony on 19th February 2014. If your DC entry makes if into the final of the UK competition this will be entered into the the worldwide contest and you never know the whole family could be jetting of to Japan for the final prize giving next summer.

For more details on this competition you can visit www.toyota.co.uk/dream-car

Also, we'd love to see your creations on this thread too - post a pic of your LOs creation or just describe the features they'd like to see in a car of the future on this thread - £50 Love2shop voucher for one person who posts on this thread.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

My three year old ds perfect car would be in the shape of Lightning Mc Queen and have lots of sweets in with a train track inside where he could race his engines - oh and an egg in there too confusedgrin

Hopezibah Wed 20-Nov-13 00:10:36

My son says his dream car would be made of cake, chocolate and sweets (a bit like a gingerbread house but a car) but one that grows back as you eat it.

Liquorice steering wheel, sugar pane glass windows, seats made of jelly beans, and the actual car from cake, biscuits and chocolate.

You will never get hungry on a car journey again!

CrewElla Wed 20-Nov-13 11:54:13

We had a conversation this morning and he decided he wanted MiMo which, if I am allowed to translate, is Mater from Cars. I asked if the car should have room for his collection of cars and no, the car should look like Mimo.

Pascha Wed 20-Nov-13 12:21:53

DS1's dream car would be 'little.' Nothing else. No other properties. Just little. He can't actually draw though so think we won't enter this time.

MerryMarigold Wed 20-Nov-13 12:29:12

Oooh ds1 (8) is going to go mad for this. I do have an idea of what he will say, though I will come back and directly report. A transformer. A real one, that transforms from a car to a robot. Also a lot of very bright colours - stripes, dots, stars in red, blue, green, yellow and gold. We will enter the competition now there's something to do on Saturday!.

DD 3 wants a car that runs on bubbles with furry seats and filled with sweeties. Simple pleasures!

sharond101 Wed 20-Nov-13 22:01:45

My DS wants lots of buttons that light up and make noises. He wants the radio to play Disney Jnr sounds and for the light to go on when you press them from the outside (he is obsessed with buttons and cause effect type stuff.) He would like it to have blue smoke as it's emissions and he would like to not have to go to the petrol station with it.

3bunnies Thu 21-Nov-13 11:06:16

Last year mine asked FC for an individual car which they could drive themselves to school, but it can fly and then when they got to school it would transform into a pen which they could write with. I think that they hate the school run as much as I do!

TeaAndCakeOrDeath Thu 21-Nov-13 12:07:29

I just asked DS (2.10) - it should be black, yellow and red, go fast over bums, go 'brum brum' and fly...not much to ask!

TeaAndCakeOrDeath Thu 21-Nov-13 12:07:54

*go fast over BUMPS! blush

ILoveAFullFridge Thu 21-Nov-13 14:48:43

Ds2 wants his dream car to be a triple-decker "so I can go upstairs to sleep in a bed when we drive to somewhere at night."

And it will, of course fly.

And float.

And it will have stripes.

And smell minty. (confused<-me)

MerryMarigold Thu 21-Nov-13 19:42:01

Ds1, age 8 (on Monday):

It would be a racing car with Optimus Prime's bits on his head that stick up (the silver ones). It would be black and white like Bumblebee's (the transformer) pattern. It would transform into a robot. It would talk to you when you were driving it. It has a secret base like a secret passage where you can hide. It drives for you, by itself. It can shoot fire out of it.When it's a robot it's good at boxing. It has 2 gold swords as well.

leanneth Thu 21-Nov-13 21:23:26

LO's perfect car would probably involve chocolate somehow!

kateandme Fri 22-Nov-13 03:35:03

mine asked for a expandable flying car.
so its small and cute to drive or shoulkd i say fly to school.but then a bit like harry potter world it can transform into a big car/caravan type to sleep in.
i rather like that myself.

Bubbles85 Sat 23-Nov-13 15:11:08

We're still waiting for our first little one to make an appearance at the end of the year but my husband has already told me that our little one would like a nicer car than we have at the moment. Apparently the baby would appreciate a faster car that has moe space and that is convertible to make use of the few weeks of the year in summer when we would actually be able to use it down! The baby is also apparently a fan of the colour red and would appreciate having heated seats despite having to use a car seat!

umabritmum Sat 23-Nov-13 19:45:05

This is an awesome contest. My children love to participate and so am I smile..We will get it done and come back again smile

zimbamummy Sun 24-Nov-13 16:22:20

Ah I'm gutted my DS is too young for this one - I gather it wouldn't be the done thing to draw a picture myself. smile

Meanderer Tue 26-Nov-13 11:59:13

mine's worried about driving because of global warming - so she doesn't care what it looks like but it needs to have clean energy generator - hydrogen powered maybe?

NettleTea Tue 26-Nov-13 12:50:46

Flying. Thats the big thing my DS wants his car to do. And shooting stuff. Its beginning to sound suspiciously like a fighter plane to me hmm

BellaVida Tue 26-Nov-13 17:35:54

My youngest DD who is 3 said she would have an oval shaped black car with sparkly silver unicorns and pink ballerinas. Inside it would have seats, seatbelts, a magic wand, sweeties and some special shoes to drive in!

sporktacular Wed 27-Nov-13 00:18:31

It's a bit sick when car manufacturers use children to advertise cars when, from memory, a couple of thousand children are killed or seriously injured by them each year in the UK.

Please don't forget that "Sponsored Links" on this site are essentially adverts.

mrscog Wed 27-Nov-13 06:13:26

Err spork it's not the car manufacturers fault that maniacs drive badly though! And Toyota invest huge amounts in safety.

sporktacular Wed 27-Nov-13 12:45:24

True, "it's not guns that kill people..." - but we live in a car culture where our kids often can't even play outside because car traffic makes it unsafe. Cars are not good for kids!

Car manufacturers do invest a lot in safety for the people inside the cars. Those on the outside don't buy the cars, so they are less interested.

tinypumpkin Wed 27-Nov-13 19:38:43

Well, DD has been looking out for a purple car for me for ages so I think it would have to be purple. It also has to feature snacks (choc, sweeties etc) and have CBeebies somewhere.

darksparrow Wed 27-Nov-13 21:03:13

My DC always fall asleep in the car so a supery comfy seat is high on their wish lists!

SummerPlum Fri 29-Nov-13 13:57:13

It's a bit sick when car manufacturers use children to advertise cars when, from memory, a couple of thousand children are killed or seriously injured by them each year in the UK.

Not to mention the catastrophic effects that the prioritisation of personal car usage over ALL other modes of transport in this country over decades has had on children's freedoms and the environments they live in.

Bonzodoodah Fri 29-Nov-13 17:58:32

my dd says it should have 12 floors ... she's not so sure how it will go under bridges though

tlc678910 Mon 02-Dec-13 18:35:50

I asked my son to draw a magical car and he drew a whole house on wheels - a pretty good idea I thought! Go on holiday without packing or paying for a hotel for a start.
In his painting his car in in space (sun and planets) so even astronauts can travel in comfort confused

DS wants a car made of a cloud so he can fly around the sky in a soft car made from a cloud!

DS wants a car made of a cloud so he can fly around the sky in a soft car made from a cloud!

daisydaisy11 Thu 05-Dec-13 17:40:23

My little one would love an open top car made of choclate-not very practical here in Scotland!

AWimbaWay Thu 05-Dec-13 19:31:18

My Dd is busy drawing as I type. She wants her car made of marshmallow, (I think she'd rather like the whole world to be made of marshmallow) She said it would be super comfy, stop you getting hurt in an accident and if you got hungry you could have a nibble, apparently it grows back. It also has a big spring and bounces along rather than wheels, you tell it your destination and it bounces along high into the sky only touching ground at special landing spots, this means it'll be safer for pedestrians too.

NotAFeminist Sat 07-Dec-13 11:17:54

If it's anything like the bus where the wheels go round and round and the horn goes beep beep beep on his nose etc, my LO will be happy!!! He's 13 months so can't quite draw a car so I'll leave this one for all the other Mumsnetters out there! :D

Bonzodoodah Sat 07-Dec-13 17:10:37

HQ how do you want these A3 drawings posted to you? rolled up?

snowsuit Sun 08-Dec-13 22:47:46

i got all excited because i thought i could enter too. a built in foot spa, massage chair, etc are on my list. probably quite different from dd's car which would most likely be made of sweets... hmm

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 09-Dec-13 09:26:46

Bonzodoodah rolled up or folded is fine.

earlymidlifecrisis Tue 10-Dec-13 23:12:23

Entered my DS's picture today... Would like to add a photo here too; can I do it from my phone?! DS is 6 and has designed a hippy dippy peace n love-esque car covered in hearts, flowers, stars and leaves. not so much into Superheroes

momb Wed 11-Dec-13 16:06:11

YD would like a car that grows and stretches to go over other cars so we never get stuck in traffic. She also wants pillows (I think she missed the high back booster seat) for napping on long journeys.
Oh, and apparently it needs to have those chairs that turn into beds in the back like in business class on planes and be blue. No specific blue, just any blue will do, with big headlights and eyelashes like a disney car.

CozyOtter Thu 12-Dec-13 18:28:48

I've not got an option on this thread to upload an image confused

moldingsunbeams Thu 12-Dec-13 20:00:24

I cant upload an image either.

MmeCinqAnneauxDor Thu 12-Dec-13 20:14:25

We have some naice drawings of the Icing Splater Car, which distributes icing while whizzing between jelly and cake, and the DreamCatcher, made out of rainbows, which flies around the world in an hour, distributing pleasant dreams.

Can't seem to upload them onto this thread though.

CMOTDibbler Fri 13-Dec-13 18:49:57

My ds tells me that his ideal car is a landy with a winch and big off road tyres and a roof tent. I think he's been looking at dhs Landy mags again hmm

MmeCinqAnneauxDor Fri 13-Dec-13 22:35:45

CMOT
I think that is DH's dream car too

BlackeyedShepherdswatchsheep Sat 14-Dec-13 11:04:44

can toyota arrange for a "speedmoniter" to be instlled in a position that ds can see it. he gets most upset when I have to drive in a straight line and he can not see it.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 14-Dec-13 17:04:07

MmeCinqAnneauxDor and others re uploading images: below the add your message box is 3 lines for Choose File - and adding an image. See here for an image I added....(of my DD when she was very little, with a big leaf!!)

AWimbaWay Sat 14-Dec-13 18:17:29

I get that on some threads AnnMumsnet, but it isn't showing for me on this one. Just realised I posted my Dd's pic off without scanning it first, so sadly won't be able to share here anyway.

AWimbaWay Sat 14-Dec-13 18:18:27

And your dd looks like a little pixie with that big leaf smile

CozyOtter Sat 14-Dec-13 21:06:25

Oh no! I posted my pic off without scanning it too! I could get him to recreate it I suppose!

MmeCinqAnneauxDor Sat 14-Dec-13 21:07:58

Yep, same here. No add photo option here either.

Love the big leaf, AnnMN

moldingsunbeams Sat 14-Dec-13 21:21:46

Its definitely not showing on the thread Ann, I have seen it on others but it is not on this one. Using normal laptop too.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 14-Dec-13 23:25:08

How odd...can you let me know what browser you are using?

AWimbaWay Sun 15-Dec-13 09:12:36

I'm using chrome.

AWimbaWay Sun 15-Dec-13 09:13:16

On a normal laptop.

moldingsunbeams Sun 15-Dec-13 10:46:04

firefox here also on a normal laptop.

I can see them usually but not on this one.

MmeCinqAnneauxDor Sun 15-Dec-13 11:43:35

Chrome here too. I've been trying to work out on which threads the pic upload is available.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Sun 15-Dec-13 13:46:26

It's very odd...I am on Chrome too - below the add your message box is convert links automatically and then watch this thread and then 3 boxes for images....

moldingsunbeams Sun 15-Dec-13 13:56:41

Its definately not there confused I have seen the three boxes on another thread, I did not post our picture as I could not upload it so not an issue for us now anyway smile

AWimbaWay Sun 15-Dec-13 17:02:42

Yep definitely not showing on this thread, I've used them in the past on other threads. It has convert links automatically and then watch this thread but then just the purple buttons for preview and post message.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Sun 15-Dec-13 18:56:03

Any chance you could send me a grab? It's ann@ then normally URL thanks

AWimbaWay Sun 15-Dec-13 21:08:01

Think I've sent one.

dozeydoris Mon 16-Dec-13 07:00:21

Phew, I thought LO meant loved one ie partner (male) so was going to rant about sexism.

But it's Little One, aww, cute.

My LOs fav would be a 7cm noddy type car with a flashing blue light on the front and maybe soft bumpers as he is teething.
In fact this could be a great seller Toyota - teething cars smile
LO is 6 months btw.

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 16-Dec-13 14:31:02

The tech ishoo has been fixed and you should hopefully be able to upload images to this thread now.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in their LO's pictures they're all fantastic and CarrieMumsnet has got a difficult decision to make smile

Unfortunately the comp for postal entries has closed now but this thread will be open for a while longer so please do continue to upload photos to the thread for a chance to win a £50 Love2shop voucher.

Good luck thanks

MmeCinqAnneauxDor Mon 16-Dec-13 15:26:24

Hope our entries arrived in time - here are the uploads

Dreamcatcher is by DD, 11yr old

Icingsplater is by DS 9yr old

Bonzodoodah Tue 17-Dec-13 09:56:50

Here's my DD's design for a super car. All her own work!
i.e. it was HER idea to put red and white wine in the fridge and have mum on the computer!! girl will go far

Bonzodoodah Tue 17-Dec-13 09:57:40

Oh and she drew a Robert Wiseman Lorry in the background for interest (odd child).

MmeCinqAnneauxDor Tue 17-Dec-13 15:22:04

Oooh, Bonzo. I do like your DD's thinking. You'll have to teach her that red wine shouldn't be in fridge though.

happydutchmummy Wed 18-Dec-13 01:10:16

My 3 year old described her perfect car to me today, it would be pink (obviously!), there would be trays tables on the back of the front seat (so that she can fold it down and do drawing), she would need a cup holder and it should have enough space in the boot to store her baby brother for when he's crying.

Bonzodoodah Wed 18-Dec-13 12:40:16

MmeCinq I know, I know ... I really must educate this child in wine ettiquette grin

Bonzodoodah Fri 20-Dec-13 12:20:41

MNHQ ... when will you announce the winners? drums fingers

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Sun 22-Dec-13 08:37:18

Bear with us Bonzo.

Still time to post photos or descriptions about your DCs dream car on this thread though for a chance to win a £50 voucher.

AWimbaWay Sun 22-Dec-13 19:38:47

I must post my ds's picture, unfortunately he didn't get it finished in time to post along with his sister's. He's not the best at drawing but was very proud of himself! He created the solar sphere, a large sphere that rolls along with people inside, powered by the sun.

AWimbaWay Mon 23-Dec-13 15:20:30

So, here's 6 yr old Ds's Solar Sphere, like I said his fine motor skills are still a little behind, but he put a lot of effort in and was really chuffed with himself!

MichelleMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 23-Dec-13 15:25:59

Thanks everyone for adding your DCs ideas and creations to this thread. The winner of the £50 Love2Shop voucher is BellaVida, congratulations! We'll be in touch soon.

MichelleMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 07-Jan-14 15:57:02

Hi everyone - we'll be announcing the winners of the competition later on this week so watch this space grin !

MichelleMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 14-Jan-14 14:46:46

And the winners are...

<drumroll>

Under 8 - Ella L. (7) with her Marshmallow car - A super soft edible car made from yummy marshmallow. It bounces high in the air on a spring. A car that's safe for its passengers and pedestrians.

8 - 11 years - Catriona N. (11) with The Dreamcatcher - The dreamcatcher travels around the world in one hour collecting bad dreams and spreading good ones. It's made of rainbows.

12 - 15 Years - James M. (14) with his Toyota H2O - Ultra efficient water powered supercar.

Well done! Thank you everyone who sent in their entries, it was lovely to see what your DCs came up with smile - CarrieMumsnet had to make some very hard calls!

AWimbaWay Tue 14-Jan-14 15:58:18

grin We have a very happy and excited little girl here desperate for her Daddy to get home from work so she can tell him the fab news!

Bonzodoodah Wed 15-Jan-14 12:17:09

Congratulations all!
James' car design and detail looks fabulous!
