Whole Earth has asked us to find out Mumsnetters' favourite peanut butter related snacks.

Here's what Whole Earth has to say, "Mums buy Whole Earth peanut butter because they know it's naturally delicious. Made with 97% peanuts, no added sugar and loaded with energy Mums know that choosing Whole Earth peanut butter is a great way to fuel their families throughout the day. It is also a perfect ingredient for baking crunchy peanut butter cookies - a delicious after school treat."

Do you use peanut butter to create homemade snacks for you or your DCs? What about peanut butter popcorn or peanut butter granola bars? Or perhaps you just use it to dip celery or carrot sticks into? However you snack with peanut butter we'd love to know.

Everyone who adds their feedback or uploads a photo of their snack will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 voucher for a supermarket of their choice.

Many thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Peanut butter on celery. Sounds strange but I really love it!!

tanfastic Mon 30-Sep-13 16:07:21

Peanut butter spread very thick on white toast. Immense. Or straight from the jar I have been known....

Halfbaked Mon 30-Sep-13 18:38:04

Peanut butter on toast with sliced banana mmmm or peanut butter spread on apple slices for a healthy energy boost.
Peanut butter and Nutella on thick white toast for a treat.
Peanut butter cookies, my mums recipe which you leave in sausage shapes in the freezer for slicing and baking in 12 mins, home baked peanutty biscuits- must be eaten warm.
Or just straight from the jar, I love peanut butter

I have to admit, I'm a huge fan of just alternating spoons of crunchy Whole Earth peanut butter with squares of 75% cocoa chocolate.

You can;t eat much before you're satisfied, but it's sooo yummy.

Otherwise I stick it in a blender with honey, milk and some oats and make a delish smoothie.

Custardo Mon 30-Sep-13 18:47:04

One needs to bake peanut butter cookies - then in a stroke of sheer utter genius, one stacks the cookies atop of each other using peanut butter.

there are various ways of eating them
1) the see wh can get the most in their gob technique

2) the take one off at a time technique ( although this invariably leaves one with a dilema of is there enough PB on the cookie below - it is truly terrifying)

3) the biscuit sandwich technique - and my clear favourite

Peanut butter on cinnamon and raisin bagels is the best.

Peanut butter on toasted crumpets or toasted muffins is pretty good too.

My daughter likes it on crusty bread.

PigStack Mon 30-Sep-13 18:53:31

Peanut butter on brown bread with blueberry jam
Peanut butter and raisin cookies.
Peanut butter added to seeds and oat flapjacks and topped with chocolate
Peanutbutter filled chocolate cups: the BEST idea ever.

Peanut butter cookies - cup of PB, cup of sugar, an egg, tsp of vanilla. Mix. break into walnut size balls, squish with fork, bake for 10 mins at 160'c.

Gluten and dairy free, and tbh, they work just as well with no egg

SalBeautyMoll Mon 30-Sep-13 18:59:47

Homemade satay sauce is a favourite here - mix with coconut milk, soy sauce and a bit of chilli - delish! Either have hot with chicken or cold with crudités.

themummyonthebus Mon 30-Sep-13 19:12:35

CMOT just beat me to it, pb cookies are my favourite.

bundaberg Mon 30-Sep-13 19:14:18

My kids fave thing ever:

cut an apple in half and cut the core out.
drop a bit of honey or jam in the dip.
fill with about a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter (and yes, we do use whole earth!)

yum yum yum!

also good on toast topped with sliced banana

Peanut butter sandwiched in between Ritz biscuits is yum grin

We add a large spoonful to scone mix, when adding the egg and milk. Makes very more-ish scones.

dahville Tue 01-Oct-13 17:40:54

for a good hit of protein I like some crunchy peanut butter on seedy wholewheat pita

Put a big dollop of PB on top of vanilla icecream and top with salted peanuts. Heaven.

Or spread PB on part cooked wholemeal toast, top with grated cheese and toast again. I lived on this as a student and it is sooooo good.

Rubberstamp Tue 01-Oct-13 17:47:10

Favourite sandwich ever - or on an open baguette. Peanut Butter, Sliced Apple and Mature Cheddar. Heaven on a plate.

Peanut butter on ryvita sesame crackers..... a duo made in heaven.

Or

Peanut butter & cornichons in a sandwich.

I love peanut butter. It kept me alive throughout primary school, when I refused to eat any other kind if sandwich...

peanut butter and banana toasted sandwiches, amazing!

ouryve Wed 02-Oct-13 09:43:40

I'm sure dads buy peanut butter, too hmm

Anyhow, nothing beats PB blathered on wholemeal toast, so it's slightly melted, but I'm also partial to it in a sandwich, with loads of crunchy cucumber and lettuce, or grated carrot.

Anjou Wed 02-Oct-13 09:55:43

Mmmmmmmm, peanut butter.

PB, coconut milk, red chillies, sesame oil, fish sauce, coriander & star anise. Thin it with hot water if you want to make a soup with all your usual veg/meat etc that you'd use in a Thai/Malay curry, or keep it sticky and add fried pork & serve with coconut, jasmine or sticky rice.

PB, sliced banana & honey on whole meal toast.

PB, oats, sultanas, little bit of banana, honey, golden syrup - mix up & pack in the usual way for AMAZING flapjacks.

Mmmmmmmm, peanut butter.

peanut butter on McVities Digestive biscuits -fabulous

BornToFolk Wed 02-Oct-13 10:18:41

I love peanut butter. Halfbaked beat me to it but peanut butter on toast with sliced banana or peanut butter with apple slices are my two favourite ways to eat it. Or with jam in a sarnie.

I love the look of the new sachets, they'd be great for having in my bag as an emergency snack, or for packed lunches.

Please do stop with the "Mums know..." etc though. Would it be so very hard to say "Parents know..." instead?

Spirael Wed 02-Oct-13 10:33:34

Another vote for peanut butter and nutella sandwiches here! Though I do like peanut butter on a toasted bagel as well.

DH (Dads do the food shopping and cooking as well-!!) makes a fantastic satay sauce using peanut butter that we have with prawns, salad and pitta breads. Yum!

CheeryCherry Wed 02-Oct-13 10:37:30

Or swirl.some into hot chocolate for a naughty but delicious treat

peanutMD Wed 02-Oct-13 10:39:08

Ooooh peanut butter, I like all peanut related foods, can you tell?? grin

Where to start-

Chocolate brioche sliced in half lengthways
Lightly toast under grill for about 2-3 minutes in medium temp
Spread as much peanut butter as you'd like
Add some sliced banana on top
And scoff to your hearts desire

Smooth peanut butter mixed with natural yoghurt and a hint of chilli
Add some diced chicken and leave in fridge for a few hours
Cook chicken and serve with boiled rice and celery sticks for an easy toddler friendly curry

Peanut butter and chocolate spread rice cakes are also blardy good!

RIZZ0 Wed 02-Oct-13 10:39:27

Love Whole Earth, no crap in it.

I have it with manuka honey on toast or crumpets, and sometimes make puff pastry pinwheels with it and some homemade plum and strawberry jam. (Spread it on a flat sheet of puff pastry, then roll in to a sausage, slice and bake). They don't last long.

racingheart Wed 02-Oct-13 11:30:50

When DS2 was a toddler he was really undersized and always gave up eating after two mouthfuls, so those mouthfuls had to count. I used to put cream cheese, peanut butter and strawberry jam or mashed banana on wholemeal bread. Two tiny sandwiches of that was enough calories to keep him going for half a day.

Now, DS 1 has bagel with peanut butter and jam in the mornings as the school day is long.

best recipe is definitely chicken curry: 1 tin coconut milk, 2 tbsp. of crunch peanut butter, chunk of grated ginger, 2 limes, zested and squeezed, one finely chopped red chilli, 1 teaspoonful of cumin and fenugreek. Whisk together then add chunks of chicken or turkey breast and marinade.

Cook on stove for 10 mins then add small cubes of butternut squash and finely sliced red peppers, cook for another 5, then add baby corns and sugar snaps or mangetout and cook for another 3-4 mins. Serve with chopped coriander and jasmine rice.

Classic peanut butter on toast.

I also use it to make a satay sauce

Peanut butter and marmite is also a really good combo

ArtisanLentilWeaver Wed 02-Oct-13 13:00:03

I give you THE ELVIS except he had bacon in it too.

topsmart Wed 02-Oct-13 13:10:49

Mmmmm peanut butter and Nutella, totally agree. And great sounding curry ideas!

Our local fave cafe (Tea hive in Chorlton, Manchester) just did a chocolate peanut butter cheesecake. Might be the best thing I've ever eaten!

therumoursaretrue Wed 02-Oct-13 13:25:22

I love peanut butter.

My go-to quick breakfast is wholegrain toast with peanut butter (we use Whole Earth) and manuka honey.

Also love banana and PB 'ice-cream' as a healthy treat - frozen banana whizzed in the blender with a tablespoon of peanut butter!

Another one we do is peanut butter and apple stacks. Sliced apple with PB and a few dark choc chips between the layers.

I could go on!! PB cookies are great and easy and I also make PB and white choc blondies which always go down a treat!

MissDD1971 Wed 02-Oct-13 13:34:11

peanut butter on toast plus marmite on top, if feeling saintly omit butter. works better with crunchy PB.

LoriGrimes Wed 02-Oct-13 13:39:38

Peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. Yummy

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer Wed 02-Oct-13 14:07:23

Most of our peanut butter gets eaten on crackers (DD1 prefers cream crackers, DH prefers ryvita), or in sandwiches, but a significant amount just gets rated straight from the jar with a spoon.

I sometimes make protein balls for DH with crunchy peanut butter and protein powder. They're like bounce balls, but much cheaper!

I rarely bake with peanut butter, but we do all love peanut butter cookies, so they don't last long.

ILoveAFullFridge Wed 02-Oct-13 14:28:29

Replace half the fat in any cake that uses bicarbonate or BP (eg fruitcake or ginger cake) with peanut butter. Crunchy is good in fruitcake, smooth is good in ginger cake - matching textures - but either way works.

Mix peanut butter with BBQmarinade, brush on before and during cooking. Goes particularly well with fish and chicken, a bit rich for red meats IMO.

Whizz half a jar or so into liquidised veg, mushroom or chicken soup.

Peanut butter goes with pretty much anything on toast or in a sandwich.

Allalonenow Wed 02-Oct-13 15:31:51

Peanut butter and nutella on hot toast or in a toasted sandwich of brioche is a breakfast to cheer up any rainy morning.

A dollop of PB, some yoghurt, cream, or custard piled on a slice of ginger cake and flashed in the microwave for a few seconds, is a super fast sweet treat.

A couple of spoons of PB blended with half a glass of milk, an ice cube or two, and a good splosh of Irish cream liqueuer makes a fab drink.

PB adds a bite to icecream too, especially good with chocolate icecream.

supergreenuk Wed 02-Oct-13 15:57:39

Peanut butter on crumpet

VikingLady Wed 02-Oct-13 15:59:54

Peanut butter and marmite toasties! Sounds weird but it is truly good stuff...

Peanut butter and jam toastie.
Another satay fan here too smile

Favourite not-for-children milkshake is peanut butter/maple syrup/Jack Daniels. It's gorgeous.

DD loves peanut butter/banana/chocolate spread sandwiches but sadly she can't take them to school as it's nut-free sad (Very very allergic child, so have no issues with the rule)

Personally I love hot buttered toast with peanut butter and raspberry jam, or honey, or golden syrup.

And now I'm hungry... grin

I like it on crackers or a thick wedge of bread! Always reminds me of my childhood.

If only it wasn't so fattening...

Vagndidit Wed 02-Oct-13 17:29:05

A peanut butter "sandwich" made with peanut butter smeared between two chocolate digestives...lush!

Or there's the American standby of a Fluffer-Nutter---peanut butter, marshmallow fluff with optional banana slices on bread...quite nice griddled or toasted.

eggyweggies Wed 02-Oct-13 17:29:29

A teaspoon of peanut butter and a teaspoon of strawberry jam spread on top of a digestive biscuit.

Feels like an indulgent treat and is only about 100 cals

defineme Wed 02-Oct-13 17:46:17

with mature cheddar on a digestive biscuit..sweet, salty, crunchy.

Sparkles23 Wed 02-Oct-13 17:48:43

Peanut butter and mashed banana in a sandwich is heavenly and a great energy booster! I also sometimes add a nice big dollop of peanut butter to smoothies it adds another dimension and again provides an energy boost!

This sounds bonkers but sweet potato baked in peanut butter is delish!

Aethelfleda Wed 02-Oct-13 18:05:35

Peanut butter and banana toasties. Apparently Elvis liked them deep fried. I make mine in a George Foreman grill.

Whole earth is a great brand, their peanut butter doesn't have that palm-oily-greasy feel you find with the cheap versions. Crunchy every time!

LaTrucha Wed 02-Oct-13 18:09:39

On cream crackers with loads of butter. I used to stand eating one after another in my dDad's house. He got fed up with me eating all his peanut butter, but I couldn't stop. Yum!

DoItTooJulia Wed 02-Oct-13 18:31:58

Baby ds adores smooth whole earth peanut butter spread on 50/50 bread with grated apple on top. So do I!

WowOoo Wed 02-Oct-13 18:36:24

Satay chicken made with lots of peanut butter is very moreish.

I like doing peanut butter biscuits. I have a basic biscuit recipe which I add nuts and /or peanut butter to.

Best of all, peanut butter on toast - so simple and easy and very satisfying.

CharlotteBronteSaurus Wed 02-Oct-13 19:15:06

we love peanut butter and banana milkshakes - peanut butter, milk, vanilla ice cream and a banana whizzed up in a blender.

or peanut butter and white chocolate blondies. sort of negates the supposed health benefits of peanut butter, but so good.

Yoghurty Wed 02-Oct-13 19:26:32

I love PB!

One of my favourite things to do with it is get a bowl of natural yoghurt, add a few drops of vanilla essence and a sprinkle of cinnamon, then mix in a large spoonful of (crunchy) peanut butter.

Slice up an apple or strawberries and use it to dip in the mixture. Or just eat it with a spoon grin

It's very moreish (and low carb!)

Peanut Butter and Jam sponge.

I make a sandwich sponge, chocolate or basic vanilla is fine.

Make up buttercream and add a few spoons of peanut butter, mix it in well. Spread jam and peanut buttercream inside of cake. Sandwich together.

Dust with icing sugar, or if you've a really sweet tooth, ice it with plain icing (or melted chocolate) scatter crushed peanuts and mini marshmallows liberally.

It was a cobbled together birthday cake once that went down really well. We make it quite often now. grin

TwoStepsBeyond Wed 02-Oct-13 19:33:16

I add a big spoonful of PB to Nigella's breakfast bars, along with any nuts and seeds I have in the cupboard.

When low carbing I enjoy a teaspoon of it with a square of really dark chocolate or one of those tiny Dr Karg cheesey crispbreads. Naughty enough to satisfy but still keep you under the daily allowance.

DS puts a dollop in his banana milkshake.

I mix it with hot water to make a simple sauce for stir fry or to use as a dipping sauce for those little Chinese snacks.

And my favourite is crunchy Whole Earth on thick buttered whole meal toast, just yum.

Lagoonablue Wed 02-Oct-13 19:45:20

Peanut better spread on bread. Add chopped red pepper, a few spring onions and then top with grated cheese. Very savoury and delicious.

Lagoonablue Wed 02-Oct-13 19:49:07

Or peanut curry. Fry half an onion with a red pepper, add a diced swede potato. Add a spoonful of curry paste and stir well. Add a tablespoon of PB or to taste. Heat for 5 mins then gradually add some veg stock until the mixture is smooth and as thick as you would like it to be.

Serve with pitta or nan bread.

mamaduckbone Wed 02-Oct-13 19:52:01

Peanut-butter-and-crunchy-carrot is one of the dcs favourite after school snacks...just carrot sticks with a dollop of crunchy peanut butter to dip.
Peanut butter tand banana or peanut butter and homemade blackcurrant jam on wholemeal toast for breakfast.
Honey and peanut booster bars are the most amazing sticky flapjacks.

wonkyduck Wed 02-Oct-13 19:54:38

I've been brought up on Whole Earth peanut butter by my mum as it is much tastier and healthier than the sugary ones. I got the following idea from my mum as she used to make it like this for my brother and I when we were growing up:
Put a big dollop of the crunchy peanut butter into homemade tomato pasta sauce. It makes it taste really creamy and has a subtle nutty crunch.. plus adds protein too. Or use smooth for the same taste!

flamingtoaster Wed 02-Oct-13 20:10:39

Peanut butter and blackberry jam on cream crackers.

masquerade Wed 02-Oct-13 20:31:04

We love peanut butter in our house! Smooth or crunchy.

On toast, bread or bagels; on its own or with banana or chocolate spread.

In baking and deserts; cookies, cakes, cheesecake, brownies, pie, ice cream.

In sweets: peanut butter fudge, peanut butter chocolate bark

In savoury dishes
Sweet potato/butternut squash soup
Fry, chopped onion, ginger and chilli, add ground cumin and fry for another minute
Add cubed sweet potato or butternut squash, stock and simmer till tender
Blend until smooth
Mix peanut butter with either a ladle of the soup or hot water if soup very thick and stir into soup
Add lime juice and chopped coriander

African bean stew
Fry onion, garlic and chilli. Add ground cumin and coriander.
Add chopped tomato. Stir in cooked kidney beans.
Mix peanut butter with hot water, add to pan. Simmer until desired consistency. Add a squeeze of lemon juice and serve.

I have a vivid memory from when I was about 3, of 'inventing' a sandwich which was smooth peanut butter with chunks of cheese. I loved it and can remember eating it in our old kitchen. I see someone above has mentioned peanut butter and cheese and I'm quite tempted to try my old favourite for lunch tomorrow now!

Peanut butter and banana ice cream. 6 bananas sliced and frozen, 3 tbsp peanut butter, wizz together in a blender. Serve straight from the blender or if you prefer it more frozen then put in a bowl and freeze a little longer.

We keep a bag of frozen banana slices in the freezer for ice cream emergencies!

Peanut butter and baked beans - yummy!

ToffeePenny Wed 02-Oct-13 21:17:21

Peanut butter truffles - peanut butter, cream cheese, honey in a 2:3:1 ratio then covered in a thin layer of melted dark chocolate.

Peanut butter cornflake squares

3 cups corn flakes, crushed
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup golden syrup
6 ounces chocolate chips
Directions:

1
Heat peanut butter, sugar and syrup syrup over low heat to melt. Stir in cereal.

2
Pat into a 8x8 lightly greased pan. (I line my pan with foil and then lightly spray it. When it is time to cut them, the foil lifts right out.).

3
Melt chocolate chips over low heat or in the microwave and spread over top. Cool until firm.

Now a healthy option, my favourite salad in the world.

Thai bok choi salad with peanut dressing.

1/4 cup natural smooth peanut butter (no added sugar or salt)
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice (from about 2 medium limes)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons packed dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons fish sauce
1 medium garlic clove, smashed
1 teaspoon chile-garlic paste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
For the salad:
2 pounds baby bok choy
2 1/2 cups fresh small-dice pineapple (from about 1/2 medium pineapple)
2 medium carrots, peeled, halved lengthwise, then thinly sliced crosswise
1/2 medium English cucumber, quartered lengthwise, then thinly sliced crosswise
1 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 cup roasted, salted peanuts, coarsely chopped
2 medium scallions, thinly sliced (white and light green parts only)
INSTRUCTIONS
For the dressing:
Place all of the ingredients except the oil in a blender and blend on high until smooth. With the motor running, slowly stream in the oil until it is fully incorporated; set the dressing aside in the blender.
For the salad:

Cut the bok choy in half lengthwise, rinse it, and dry it. Cut the leaves crosswise into 1-inch-wide ribbons, cut the stalks crosswise into 1/4-inch pieces, and transfer both to a large bowl.
Add the remaining ingredients, drizzle with the dressing, and toss to combine. Serve immediately.

Mini Fools Gold Rolls.

Adapted from Elvis Presley's (allegedly) favourite snack but don't eat more than once a year or you too will die on a toilet.

One crusty roll or mini baguette per person
Peanut Butter
Strawberry or Raspberry Jam
Three rashers of streaky bacon per roll

Fry the bacon until crispy then place on paper towels to drain.
Split the roll/baguette and spread first with a layer of peanut butter.
Then add a thin layer of the jam on top of the peanut butter.
Lay the drained crispy bacon on top of the PB and jam layer then close the roll.
Apply to mouth and roll your eyes with joy.

If you like that sweet/salty hit then this wondrous sandwich is for you. But like I said, eating it should be like Christmas, once a year only.

mignonette Fri 04-Oct-13 15:00:22

Two grin. There's an Elvis cookbook called 'Are You Hungry Tonight' if you want further inspiration!

TwoStepsBeyond Fri 04-Oct-13 17:29:37

Thanks, it could very well be my downfall grin

Mrsfluff Fri 04-Oct-13 19:03:37

Spread on a Digestive biscuit & eat......yum!

DontmindifIdo Fri 04-Oct-13 19:29:41

I love cooking with peanut butter, cheat satay sauce using it with chilli, soy sauce and a bit of fish sauce.

We also make something that I had named "faux Thai" chicken, except dh once misheard me and thought I said "bow tie chicken" - this was deemed hilarious and so it is now bow tie chicken (yes, the long winter nights do just skip by...)

Stir Fry chilli, garlic, fresh ginger, onions, chicken and green pepper. Then add a generous table spoon of peanut butter, a large glug of soy sauce (about 2-3 tablespoons), a glass of fresh orange juice, a bit of fish sauce, some Chinese 5 spice and chopped coriander. Reduce down until its a lovely sticky sauce while the chef scoffs a few spoonfuls of peanut butter serve with rice (fine to leave out the chilli if serving to little dcs).

Until last week is have said make with smooth peanut butter, but we only had crunchy in last week and it gives a really nice texture, so will be making with crunchy from now on...

(oh yes, hate hate hate "mums do xxx", parents please)

earlyriser Fri 04-Oct-13 19:52:14

Banana sliced lengthways filled with Whole Earth peanut butter, sandwiched up again and eaten like that. Yum

purpleroses Fri 04-Oct-13 20:03:03

On toast with strawberries sliced on top - or any fruit really. Raspberries, peaches, apple all lovely.

My DD swears by peanut butter on a banana, but I'm not convinced by that one hmm

purpleroses Fri 04-Oct-13 20:04:49

....DS on the other hand believes it should be eaten straight from the jar with a knife.....grin

AllThatGlistens Fri 04-Oct-13 20:07:17

I've just been eating whole earth crunchy peanut butter, straight out of the fridge, with a spoon. Lush grin

Also love it slathered all over a toasted bagel.. <drools>

mignonette Fri 04-Oct-13 20:43:29

Some more indulgent recipes-

Home Made Banana Peanut Butter and Rum Ice Cream

Roast a couple of small Bananas in their skins for a few minutes to intensify their taste. If you want the Rum flavour you need to split the skins before roasting and drizzle in a little Rum.

Remove from the oven, skin and roughly mash the flesh.

Get a tub (1 litre) of Vanilla ice cream and allow it to soften a little. Spoon a tablespoon of Whole Earth Crunchy Peanut Butter onto the ice cream and dollop the banana flesh on top of the ice cream.

Swirl them both into the ice cream w/ a fork to roughly mix. Re freeze until ready to serve.

Peanut Butter and Apple Muffin

Serves two.

2 oz chunky peanut butter
2 whole-wheat English muffins, split and toasted
Apple slices

Split the English Muffins in half and toast them. Butter them then spread w/ Peanut Butter. Top with apple slices and serve. Sometimes honey drizzled over is good if your sweet tooth is very demanding.

To make Peanut Butter swirled Brownies, just swirl a dollop of PB through the Brownie batter prior to baking.

Gado Gado Spaghetti

1/2 pound spaghetti or ramen noodles
4 cups water
3 Tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon oil
2 Tablespoons sunflower seeds
1 Tablespoon onion
1/2 Tablespoon or one packet powdered bouillon base (see notes)
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
1/2 teaspoon spike (optional)
3/4 cup water, or more as needed
3 Tablespoons vinegar
3 Tablespoons soy sauce
3 Tablespoons peanut butter
Sliced green or wild onions, if available

Notes: A spicy peanut butter sauce makes this a light spaghetti dish that is excellent either hot or cold. This dish can have a fairly salty taste. Cut back or eliminate the base if you are concerned about saltiness.

Break pasta in half and put into boiling unsalted water to which 1 teaspoons of oil has been added. Cook until done; drain immediately.

In a fry pan, heat 3 Tablespoons oil and add the onions. Cook and stir over medium heat until the onions are lightly caramelised and soft. add the sunflower seeds and cook another 2 mins. Don't let the seeds burn..

Add the brown sugar, garlic, other spices if desired, and 3/4 cup water to the onion mixture. Add the vinegar and soy sauce. Add peanut butter and stir. Do not burn. To eat this hot, heat the sauce thoroughly and pour over hot spaghetti.

This recipe is best cold, and it loses some of its saltiness as it sits. Mix sauce and spaghetti, cool quickly, and serve chilled. If available, sliced green or wild onions as a garnish add to the flavour. Any type of meat or Quorn can be added to this dish. Pork is especially good.

Yield: 2 to 3 servings

mignonette Fri 04-Oct-13 20:46:09

I meant to add in - add onion mixture to the base THEN add the brown sugar, garlic, other spices and 3/4 of a US cup of water to the bouillon and onion mixture. Mix in and cook.

Cyclebump Fri 04-Oct-13 21:01:44

When I'm at the end of a jar of crunchy peanut butter I put some oil, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and cumin in the jar and shake it hard. The resulting yumminess is stir fried with cooked noodles. Mmmmmmmmmmm

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee Fri 04-Oct-13 21:08:21

I love Peanut Butter and do actually buy this one - I'm not just saying it smile

I'm a vegetarian low carber, so always looking for 'something different' that's low in carbs but tasty. The other day I mixed Whole Earth Crunch (of course!!) Peanut Butter with Food Doctor Savory Seeds and made them into balls, very very GOOD!!!

Take jar. Sit on sofa. Open jar. Scoop out with finger. Eat.

End of.

ladygoingGaga Fri 04-Oct-13 22:35:03

Add a good dollop of whole earth crunchy peanut butter to any flapjack recipe, immense.

Or just spread on to hot seeded toast, heaven!

BeQuicksieorBeDead Fri 04-Oct-13 23:57:53

Right this sounds mad, I thought it was when I first heard it, but trust me, it works.

Peanut butter, marmite and cheddar sandwiches.

I know, I know, but if you love peanut butter, love marmite, you will find this a very satisfying sandwich!

ILoveAFullFridge Sat 05-Oct-13 06:43:42

PB, M & C is one of the awesome combos.

Organisedinacrisis Sat 05-Oct-13 07:47:41

I make lovely peanut butter scones. Just a normal scone recipe with peanut butter added instead of half the normal butter. They are a lovely savoury snack.

Tee2072 Sat 05-Oct-13 08:36:12

Currently eating whole grain bread, peanut butter and nutella. MMMMMM

k8vincent Sat 05-Oct-13 11:43:03

My husband would definitely agree with the celery dipped in the jar. Crunchy peanut butter cookies. My mum used to make them all the time - delicious. Also, peanut butter with burgers. It sounds odd, but is yummy.

mrsannekins Sat 05-Oct-13 13:23:42

Peanut butter and mashed banana toastie, or spread on slices of apple for a yum and filling snack.

mrsannekins Sat 05-Oct-13 13:24:30

Oh, and instead of tahini in houmous. I always have pb in the house so can't be bothered to by tahini just for one recipe.

Trills Sat 05-Oct-13 16:09:26

I only really like peanut butter as a savoury thing rather than as a sweet thing.

Stick a spoonful in a pan with some soy sauce, bit of chilli, bit of water and it makes a very quick satay sauce for all kinds of things (prawn crackers are my favourite!)

IAmNotDarling Sat 05-Oct-13 16:32:54

Peanut butter spread on a sesame seed ryvita with a layer of nutella on top.

I find three hits the spot.

I like getting a teaspoon of nutella and a teaspoon of pb and mixing them together then licking the spoons (big kid).

Mitchdafish Sat 05-Oct-13 17:28:06

I get peanut putter (crunchy) cravings and have been discovered bypassing the niceties and eating with my fingers...
On a good day I dip breadsticks in the jar instead.
Brilliant day - peanut butter and jam on toast.

thecatfromjapan Sat 05-Oct-13 20:49:29

I've done this on the feedback thread ... did I do it in the wrong place?

Peanut butter milkshake is made with milk, vanilla ice-cream and peanut butter to taste - all whizzed together. It is delicious. Really. I have to insist on this because people seem oddly resistant about the idea but ... once you try it ... you will LOVE it. Apparently, Paula Yates used to love the peanut butter milkshakes at Fortnum's. So take that you disbelievers ...

Satay chicken lollipops is done by making a simple satay sauce ( soya sauce and peanut butter mixed together); cutting chicken breasts into small chunks; coating the chicken chunks in the sauce if you've made it goopy (because you like a lot of peanut butter) or mini-marinading if your sauce is more runny. You then take some wooden skewers, soak the skewers in water; skewer chicken chunks onto the skewers and place them on a tray in the oven. Confession: I rarely look at the temperature or the time - I just cook things until they're cooked. My guess is that I'd be cooking on about gas mark 6 for 20 mins or so ...

As I keep promising, I'm going to make peanut butter ice cream, which is really nice, but I'll have to hunt down my recipe - which is a basic vanilla ice-cream made from a custard base, with spoonfulls of peanut butter included after you've made the custard. sorry, I haven't made it for two whole summers ...

I made satay chicken breasts in tortilla wraps for the photo thing - which was the same as the above lollipops, but with the sauce smeared over the chicken breasts, and the whole lot placed in a covered dish and cooked in the oven. It is so easy. I then put a pile of tortilla wraps on the table, shredded salad things, and let the children make their own. <--- I love meals that have very little washing-up. We're a no-dishwasher household. <sigh>

thecatfromjapan Sat 05-Oct-13 20:52:00

Ah. Mignonette has also posted a peanut butter ice-cream recipe.

People - peanut butter ice-cream is delicious. And if you are making really good peanut butter milkshake, that is the base to have ...

I need the peanut butter shortbread recipe and I need to eat it now despite being full of pizza.

I like a peanut butter and chocolate spread sarnie. Like a giant reeces pieces.

thecatfromjapan Sat 05-Oct-13 21:47:54

Reece's!

I can't believe I have never tried making a "Reece's Peanut Cup On Toast" (Chocolate spread and peanut butter on toast), or even thought of such a thing before this thread!!

Giraffeski Sat 05-Oct-13 22:10:00

I love this thread!
I have just bought a massive tub off the back of it and it already has finger marks in it
My PB and choc chip cookie recipe-only takes 7 mins in oven and are yum yum yummy!!!
We are gluten/dairy/soy and egg free in this house so these hit the spot and are so quick I can knock them up if someone MIL is popping round and I don't have any goodies!

110 g peanut butter
Pinch powdered ginger
65g brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
24 g flour (I use Dove Farm Gluten free but it works fine with plain flour)
Pinch salt
2-4 tbsp chocolate chips ( I use Lindt 70% or Montezumas as they are free of dairy and soy lectithins but any would work)
2 tbsp apple sauce or mashed banana
1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 200 degrees centigrade.
Mix all ingredients thoroughly to form a dough, then squish into 12 balls with your hands.
Bake for 7 minutes and allow to cool on tray for a minute to make easier to take off tray then transfer to cooling rack with a fish slice.

Stuff your face as you are taking plate through to front room.

Always, always claim to your DP that the recipe makes 10 cookies.
For obvious reasons.

Giraffeski Sat 05-Oct-13 22:11:21

I might actually have to go and make some now.m

mignonette Sat 05-Oct-13 22:34:16

TheCat My ice cream is a cheats one from ready made ice cream. I like the idea of a PB milk shake base. I do make ice cream from scratch but like a good cheat too smile.

Peanut butter and weetabix cookies are scrummy.

Rockinhippy Sun 06-Oct-13 00:31:04

Peanut butter on seeded bread toast, topped with a good dollop of sweet chilli sauce - heaven on a plate smile

pussinwellyboots Sun 06-Oct-13 07:03:49

we all love peanut butter I'm this house especially ds 2 who is a total addict.good food did a recipient a while back for flapjack using peanut butter and honey instead of the butter, and sugar - very nice! Am getting indoors by this thread never realised that satay sauce was so easy.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer Sun 06-Oct-13 07:10:30

This thread is fantastic.

I'm just waiting for it to rain so I have an excuse to make peanut butter cookies with DD1 again. We're going to try Giraffeski's recipe instead of our usual one.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer Sun 06-Oct-13 07:31:17

Protein balls:

Mix together:
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
0-1/4 cup honey (or agave nectar) depending on how sweet you want them
1/3 cup vanilla (or chocolate/whatever) protein powder, plus a little extra
+/- cinnamon.
Roll into balls & chill.

(or you can just use roughly 50:50 PB & protein powder, adding slightly more PB if they're too dry)

Ladygaggia Sun 06-Oct-13 08:27:46

Oh god, the amount of whole earth peanut butter we get through!
I love peanut butter on ryvita with sliced gherkins on top - has to be the crunchy version.

People baulk at the gherkins, but they stop the peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouthwink

The kids love pb&j sandwiches (smooth)

My husband adds a generous dollop to banana and yogurt smoothies fora protein hit (smooth)

And sometimes when I have toast I like to put a layer of crunchy peanut butter, then a layer of Nutella, followed by a layer of marmalade! It tastes divine - nutty orange chocolate smilesmilesmile

shrinkingnora Sun 06-Oct-13 08:34:18

Chocolate cupcakes with a peanut butter centre are awesome.

Date and walnut loaf spread with crunchy peanut butter is my new fave thing though.

SolomanDaisy Sun 06-Oct-13 09:25:01

We get through so much peanut butter. I love peanut butter and marmite on toast. I add it to noodles to make a sort of satay, which DS loves. We make the world's simplest flapjacks, just banana, oats and peanut butter. It's also good in banana bread.

fatmumjane Sun 06-Oct-13 10:39:17

Husband currently out food shopping, am now going to have to text him to get aforementioned peanut butter and some bananas now!!

The cupcake one has reminded me,we also use it in cupcakes

I drop a spoonful of PB & a square of chocolate into the middle of the cake batter in its casing, making sure it's covered so when it cooks, you get a lovely gooey, chocolatey peanuts centre to your cakes.

I top these with a spread of PB & then melted chocolate, sprinkled with crushed toasted salted peanut

Peanut butter and vanilla fudge. Easiest thing in the world to do but sooooo unhealthy!

Rockinhippy Sun 06-Oct-13 18:47:17

Another I like to make with crunchy PB - Laksa, shown here with prawns, but I sometimes make it with Salmon too - 2 big heaped table spoons of crunchy PB in this, along with lots of other lovely ingredients ...

Rockinhippy Sun 06-Oct-13 19:09:20

still mash up two bananas, one cup of oats and two tablespoons of peanut butter. Spread in a baking tin and cook for about 17 minutes at 200. Very, very basic, DS can practically do it himself!

Has anyone tried Almond butter?
It's bloody girgeous and can be used in similar fashion to PB

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer Tue 08-Oct-13 19:55:35

Never tried almond butter. Where did you get it? Didn't like cashew butter much, but I would expect almond butter to be much tastier.
