When my three year old finishes her bath, (and the rest of the time she's determined to be a 'big girl') she loves to have raspberries blown on her tummy. We tickle her and blow raspberries, just as we did when she was a baby, and she howls with laughter. It is a beautiful moment most evenings.

My big daughter has a dog teddy, called Sparky, than she's had since she was a little baby, and she can't sleep at night without it. She still hugs it at night. It's like the comforting protection of a blanket for a little baby.

My 8yo big boy wouldn't dream of taking his comforter out of the house nowadays, and hides it when anyone comes round. However, at home with us, it's still his favourite thing in the whole world! He has it tucked under his arm wherever he goes in the house, and never goes to bed without it.

DS 5 still snuggles and kisses with me. DD 9 asks me to go in with her and hold her hand while she pays her pound to play at our local holiday scheme. She also likes me to do the action rhyme I did with her as a baby at bedtime.

No big deal ! If they are ill or mama does it best the whimper is unintelligible, sonorous, alarming and distressful. Which means if I dare not to attend they wither and cease to live... I have quite a crowd of actors. Otherwise, if I don't hear from them it means the earth is gyrating the right way and all is calm on the waterfront !

Whenever my son is tired he becomes babyish. He speaks in what he thinks is a baby's voice and sucks his thumb.

If my bristle-chinned 16yo finds me alone in the sitting room, he will often climb into my lap for a cuddle!
