Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables have asked us to find out how you get the whole family together for a cosy night in.

Here’s what they say, "New Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables are a fun way for all the family to get involved, so we’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they encourage the whole family to enjoy a family night in."

So, what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together? Do you make sure everyone's favourite meal - or dessert - is on the menu? Perhaps there's a TV show that's guaranteed to gather you all in one place? Or do you use more direct tactics like bribery?! Maybe you cut off supply to the wifi or have made the lounge or kitchen an irresistably cosy place to congregate?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

The kids turn the front room into a cinema for us all, DS2 received a popcorn maker with lots of different toppings for Christmas and DS1 was given a gummy sweet maker so they draw is a menu and then make the living room dark with lots of squishy pillows, throws and things.
They put up a poster telling us what's showing and then we all watch the films they've decided on, they like to do a marathon, so we might watch 2-3 marvel films or 2-3 Harry Potter films etc.

It's good fun and it means they get to spend a whole day planning it. Smile

When all the family gets together we spend the evenings in with the with the tv off and play lots of participation games like 'Articulate' and adapt them so even the youngest ones can join in too. There are always chocolates and snacks to nibble on and in always involves plenty of good-humoured team rivalry!

Lights down, duvet on sofa and a bowl of popcorn. Taking turns to choose the DVD. That's basically all we need to have a cracking night in. DD is easily pleased!

We do tend to have movie nights. Pjs on, lights down, popcorn and juice (luckily the DC don't like fizzy drinks).

We all need to be in comfy clothes / pjs, we have snacks in bowls on the pouffe and we either watch "Saturday night family entertainment" on TV, or we watch a dvd. We also all have "special drinks"....which would be something fizzy and posh for the kids and wine for dh and I. Simple pleasures really.

DD is a teenager and has waist length hair. I'm afraid to say that family nights in tend to involve an episode of Bake Off or Strictly (or the DVD of Pitch Perfect/Mean Girls for the umpteenth time) on the telly, a bottle of Hedrin and the Nitty Gritty nit comb.

We love cinema night. I have a pick and mix stand, and popcorn holders.

We dim the lights, pull the sofas in front of the telly, and take turns to choose!

We love to have nights in with the DCs. We usually get a pizza, garlic bread etc for our dinner as well as some crisps and sweets. We take it in turns to pick music on YouTube and the kids have a dance about while we educate them with decent music Grin. After a while we settle down with a nice film and some blankets.

Ideal family nights in here are that the two children are sound asleep (they are 2 and 5 months!!). That said, the baby had other ideas last weekend and we ended up cuddling on the sofa watching the rugby. Not ideal, but really rather nice :)

For my boys it would be a dinner of oven chips, peas, and fish fingers followed by ice cream for pudding. They would choose Big Hero as the movie and being allowed to fall asleep in the lounge. I would like for them to be asleep by 7 so I can put my feet up and enjoy a Chinese takeaway and a drink.

A family night here involves everyone getting into their pjs, tablets, phones etc all off -snacks of popcorn and chocolate and sweets and then we play board games but not just any board games but DH and my board games from early 80's when we were little which the kids find very cool.

We also like a good family viewing of British Bakeoff and accompanying pastries as a favourite family night. ( I think the theme may be eating lots of nice food together! )

Our family night in, would involve a take away meal and just be enjoying each other's company, everybody will be in the same room doing as they please, DC will be playing puzzles, or watching you tube, or reading books. Me and DH could be getting on with something or other or joining the kids. Its a lovely, peaceful atmosphere, very relaxed and then have a dessert such as ice cream

After a big bowl of pasta for tea, pjs on and teddies ready for snuggling, we set up the room for a TV series catch-up session. We never get to watch things live so we all get very excited about finally catching up with a favourite programme! This is snack night, so we take it in turns to pick our favourite biscuits or chocolate or sweets. Mmmm, only 6 hours to go until tonight's version!
