We're working with B&Q, who so far have helped lots of MNers revamp their unloved rooms and gardens. You can check out the video of their room and garden revamps here. Now, B&Q would like to hear about the unloved parts of your home.

So, what parts of your home could use some more love? Maybe your bedroom wallpaper has started peeling? Or your bathroom tiles have started getting mouldy? Could your kitchen do with some new cupboards?

Please share details, and preferably a photo of the unloved parts of your home here, and tell us where they are and what you'd like to do to make them more loved.

Everyone who shares their story and/or photos on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 B&Q gift card.

Please note that any stories or photos you share on this thread may appear on B&Q's pages on Mumsnet and potentially elsewhere.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

PS – For more chances to win, why not upload a photo of your unloved room and tell us what you want to with it at //diy.com/myunlovedroom. Each month 10 winners will receive vouchers to redo their room.

From a selfish point of view i would love to do my bedroom if i could afford it. Its been the same since i moved in. The wallpaper at present is like a cream with a brown pattern on its the worst paper i have ever seen and it has a brown carpet that has seen better days.

I would love to put a wooden flooring down. And also put a plain coloured wallpaper up. That way i could get to work with my sewing machine and make new curatins and bedding that would allow the room to stand out and become somewhere me and DP could chill out!

We had no kitchen when we moved in in Dec 2011. It's still only half done and I would love to get it finished; tiles on the walls, fresh paint and shelves for the cook books/cat oh and the plaster work needs some TLC

I think another Xmas in a shabby kitchen would put me firmly in the dog house.

i'm in a new build.....its all dulux (crap)magnolia which comes off if you wipe it! every room is huge and I need to start making this house a home. i'mthinking of some wallpaper as well as paint.

tha garden is basic too....roll on spring

sharond101 · 23/10/2013 21:45

We have a newbuild home and we have an upstairs room of everything we can't bear to look at or do anything with. It's awful. Every other room is nice and new and we just chuck all our problems into the unloved space. It has a bed and I sometimes have to sleep in there with DS if he has a rare bad night. Takes a while to find the bed under the rubble.

HootyMcOwlface · 24/10/2013 09:54

We've got a carpeted bathroom and ensuite which I really hate. The bathroom has no window either so it stays damp for ages and is causing my allergies to play up.
I'd love to change them both to hard flooring.

dahville · 24/10/2013 09:55

It started as a man cave and I vowed not to notice how it was organised but it has now turned into a play area for my sons and we desperately need a sort and lots of storage!

Well, I desperately need to sort out the lounge which has been unloved for decades! I moved here last year and now have a 12 week old son who is going to get mobile at some point. Before that stage, at the least, I need to get the electric cables safely chased into the walls or run under the floor. Would also be nice to get a new carpet as the one in the lounge is super old and not actually in one piece! Wallpapering the walls too would be fairly super.... I stripped the old wall paper off (mostly) and it is now the least nice of rooms.

Lots of unloved, half finished rooms here. The carpets upstairs are ruined, they were cheap ones when we moved in and have suffered at the hands of our daughter and also the claws of our cats, but we can't afford to re carpet.

The bathroom shower is pitiful as the water pressure is poor and I would love a power shower.

The kitchen cupboards again were poor quality and have been damaged by the heat from the oven. Also we had an undetected leak that meant the kick boards rotted away.

Our bedroom has never been painted in the eight years since we moved in, nor has the spare room.

Finally we have no blinds in the bathroom and it is painted with horrible yellow paint. I would love to paint it white.

MakeTeaNotWar · 24/10/2013 11:40

We've got a really odd room that's not really a room beside our kitchen where the stairs are as the result of a loft conversion. We need to walk through this room to go upstairs so it's quite a public space yet it's become a dumping ground for buggies, golf clubs and tricycles. I am desperate to sort it out but don't know where to begin. A paint job and decent storage would be a start

Spirael · 24/10/2013 11:49

This is DD's bedroom. It could do with a bit of love/paint/stuff!

Our hallway.

We've been saying for two years we need to do it, but something always comes up that needs the cash more. The floors are awful creaky laminate the last owners put down and the woodwork is yellow, we'd redo the front door too, spyhole is set slightly off centre (and too high for 5'4 me!) which annoys me greatly!

clubnail · 24/10/2013 12:34

We are moving in a couple of months, the new house has been a bit neglected by the current owner, the wallpaper is peeling (and not very nice anyway!) and we will need to strip it all and redo. The bathroom also desperately needs retiling. And pretty much the whole place repainted and carpets ripped up! Help!

AndWhenYouGetThere · 24/10/2013 12:44

I've recently moved. Managed to get the house to a reasonable standard, but the garden remains a bit of an unloved wasteland. I'm going to put a fence up, but apart from that, distinctly lacking in inspiration!
It seems popular with hedgehogs and slowworms though - and as a loo for next doors cat!

Our bedroom is the least 'us' room in the house. We decorated it plainly, in haste, when we moved in, and because it is still adequate and in good nick, we haven't bothered to change it. I'd love to make it more cosy and luxurious.

Purplehonesty · 24/10/2013 13:22

We too have a new conversion and then ran out of money before we could decorate. The whole house is white which suits some rooms like the lounge and kitchen.
But our bedroom has no character it's just where we sleep and I would love to get some beautiful curtains for the three windows and some elegant furniture. It would be nice to make it my haven!

BoysWillGrow · 24/10/2013 14:30

I would love to do up my kitchen or my bedroom, they've both been really basic and the same since we moved in over 2 years ago.
For the kitchen I would change the cupboard doors, have new wall tiles and a fresh lick of paint. And for the bedroom I would paint and wallpaper the walls, have new blinds and curtains, decorated in a nice romantic style.

The most unloved room in our house is the spare room where we put everything we don't want to put anywhere else. We really need some good storage in there to tidy things up. We are also at the stage where the whole house needs to be repainted because it looks dingy!

petalsandstars · 24/10/2013 17:45

Our main living space is a lounge diner which was bland when we moved in and 5 years later is still the same. But now has toys everywhere and no style or grown up hints. I'd love to make it into q stylish space with toys hidden away.

unadulterateddad · 24/10/2013 22:03

my son's playroom is the only room in the house that hasn't been decorated in the 8 years we've lived in the house - it used to be my office so is a haven for magnolia and a carpet stained by spilt coffee and tea. I'd love to be able to buy some funky wallpaper and paints to give him a room to be proud of when his friends come to play/sleep over.

I'm too embarrassed to post a picture :(

icklekid · 25/10/2013 07:02

I would love to do up our bedroom. We've just moved into a new house and currently have a wall of mirrors taking up way too much of the room (fitted wardrobe), a very grotty once red carpet and a very unusual light-with added delightful blue bulbs! We are currently using our spare room as our bedroom as can't face taking the mirrors down, stripping back the wallpaper, having to get the walls replastered, getting the ceiling boarded so its all the same height, followed by replacing the carpet and light...before we can think about decorating the room and making it ours! We would love to paint/wallpaper around the firebreast or maybe even reinstate the fireplace. A room that has been very unloved for a long time!

Do gardens count?

FIL took it upon himself to clear all of the weeds underneath our fruit trees - we got some "shady lawn" seed and have been trying to look after it and now we can pick up the windfalll apples without worrying about stinging nettles.

I would have to say my bedroom is probably in need of some TLC. It always seems to be the area of the house which is least loved but would be lovely to be able to do it up and have it as a place to relax in and not a dumping ground! Our room is where we hide everything when people visit or the washing gets stored there as there is no storage anywhere.

Theimpossiblegirl · 25/10/2013 18:15

Our spare room is a dumping ground and really needs sorting out with some decent storage. I dream of making it into a second sitting room where the DDs can go with their friends (especially as they get older and want to bring boys round- no bedroom access for them!).

I do have a nice sofa bed in there but it's currently under a big pile of ironing.

yeghoulsandlittledevils · 25/10/2013 19:03

The shower. I had a new shower fitted as an emergency measure last year, but really it all needs to come out, get retiled and new door fitted. New flooring fitted and the ceiling below needs re artexing and painting.
I might get it painted soon.
