Auditory Processing Disorder

Hi all. Am new to special needs here. I think I'm a little in love with DD's school SENCo. We've been in to see her today as DD is really struggling and getting no allowances from teachers. Went through the complete list of difficulties she has, and it's looking like Auditory Processing Disorder. School are going to get help in place for her, and we're going to see the GP to get the ball rolling for a firm diagnosis. It may be that she's taken out of French (which she hates and really struggles with) to have help in maths and comprehension. She should be able to use a mini wordprocessor that they provide to help her get her work down on paper. Teachers will be informed that she needs extra time to write down instructions/homework etc or give her a sheet with it on. Fingers crossed this all happens!

APDUK id the Uk APD support web site.
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a listening disability, or not processing all that you hear, and according to the Medical Research Council affects 10% of children.
There is no cure for APD.
Living with APD is about developing coping strategies to work around your auditory deficit, which can include lip reading and reading body language.
The word processor can help especially when using different coloured fonts for new sentences or phrases, as we have used on the APDUK web site. Which can be useful to breakdown long unmanageable paragraphs, or when typing the sentances before bringing them together to make up a paragraph.
