I've posted this in Chat (where I usually lurk) and have watched it slide down the list with no replies. So I've decided to post here. I've just spent a very enjoyable and enlightening evening in the company of Ros. Ros is severely autistic, cannot care for herself and needs constant care, but she has a love of language. I knew nothing about autism, but Ros gave a talk on what it feels like for her. I would urge anyone with any interest in this subject to go and see her - she is fantastic and give such an insight into what it means to be autistic. As I say, I have had no contact with autistic children/adults and went along as I helped to organise this talk through my work. I'm so glad I did.

I'd second that, I saw her last year and she was a revelation.

Most of the people there work with autistic children/young adults and looking round you could just see realisation just popping in their looks to each other - lovely to see

Ros Blackburn was an inspiration, she was just so truthful and funny too. now some of our son's behaviour makes sense! If anyone gets the chance and has a child with autism, you must try to see her, you wont be disappointed.
