Hi there I wondered id anyone out there can help ? I wanted to find out who is supposed to fund a carer for a sen child. Is it supposed to come out of the school budget or from the LEA, and if it is from the LEA can anyone point me to somewhere where I can get this sort of information/evidence in writing whether it be a website or document.

Yes i have a feeling it is very complex and that there is no definitive answer she's been statemented and we were "let down" so to say by child services we have letters from consultants and along with our wishes for 1-1 but I think the LEA are just being awkward and so finding it in black and white or something legally binding would be great.

Seen your ad, funding is complex and it is a question of writing and asking and checking out who has the responsibility?. I know this is frustrating as getting the help you need is hard as information given can not be correct but perserve and keep going. I have a child with Dyspraxia who is now a teenager and it is continous but with my recent training I will keep going.

LEA funding through statementing.

Once the funding is in place, you need to check that the school is not using your child's learning assistant as a spare pair of hands in the classroom, photocopying for the teacher etc.

ive just gone through this and its worked out ive been told by parnet partnership that if the person is awarded under 20 hrs 1-1 its the school who have to fund it (explains why they often try to avoid statementing) if its over 20 hours the LEA fund it but either way the school dont decide its the LEA who decide wether to do a statement and if so after getting all the reports inc one from school will decide at what level

Think it varies from LA to LA. In Gloucestershire primary schools have to fund the 1st 10 hours and secondary the 1st 20 hours. The LA funds the balance. There is funding given directly to the schools to spend as they want (ie not ringfenced) that is supposed to cover the schools' share of the funding.

What it means in effect is you won't get a statement for less than 10 hours in primary. You're pushed towards SA + instead. Similarly in secondary, but for 20 hrs.

The LA tried to take my son's 15 hours off his statement at transition to secondary! I kicked and screamed and quoted the SEN code of practise and got it reinstated.

Suggest you get to know the code of practise cover to cover. Easy enough to google it. Good luck.

my boys get, I think it is 25 hours each funded by the lea (derbyshire) and it is set out in their statements. the schools put in the rest to make it f/t 1:1

Request a statement review to formalise the 1:1 hours. make sure that gets put in there. the statement is basically a contract.

Hi can anyone tell me if it is appropiate for me to give a copy of my sons statement to his 1 to 1 teacher. In a recent annual review i offered to do a copy of his statement and give it to his 1 to 1 teacher and the senco ,quite abbruptly. told me that this was very inappropiate.Any help or advice would be greatluy appreciated,thanks

My sons statement says 25 hours per week funded by the local authority
