Hi

We have received agreement that our local authority is to go ahead with a statutory assessment of our son?s SEN?s. I have been advised that an Educational Psychologist will be going into my son?s pre school next week to gather information for the statutory assessment. He will be observing my son and talking to the staff who work closely with him. He also wants a consultation with me and my husband at the school.
Has anyone gone through this and could shed some light on what it involves?

He'll watch your son playing.

Probably talk to your son.

Talk to the staff.

And talk to you.

Bring along a list of all the things that concern you, so that you can a) mention them and b) give it to him at the end.

We just met with the Ed Psych as part of the SA process, it was a very constructive and helpful meeting. I had a list of 6-8 bullet points but mostly we just chatted for ages with the class teacher. I was really surprised at how well she captured all the issues and concerns in a ten-page report. She gave me her email address and we clarified a couple of points after. She had access to all the reports I'd sent in and obviously read and absorbed them all and the observation she did was short but good.

Thanks that sounds like a positive meeting. The Ed Psych will be at the school all morning to observe my son and talk to his teacher and the senco so I am sure he will get a good idea of his educational needs. I did not realise that they would also have seen his reports so that will obviously give them a good background as well. Am not sure why I am nervous about it, especially as its part of the statementing process. I guess I am worried that he will say my son is a lot worse than I think he is in relation to his educational needs.
